im open-minded lovemonkey, so you can provide whatever examples you like, and i will always take them seriously and thoughtfully.  i wont necessarily agree though unless i feel they make sense.  i think thats how everyone should view these type of topics.  imho.

you make a statement like "there were no original animals", but i would have to ask how do you KNOW there werent?  b/c someone told you so?

i agree, adaptation can mean better at a certain time for a certain environment...this is called 'variation'.  which i already stated i agree with whole heartedly.  BUT, there is a big leap from variation, to another kind of animal alltogether.

in other words, i believe variation among kinds happens (natural selection).  what i dont agree is that this somehow leads to "new" genetic material.  no new genetic code is being made.  if it wasnt in a dogs genetics to have a fin, then it will never grow a fin, and will never somehow gain that code.  a person can 'believe' it will, btu taht isnt science, nor is it observable.

Going from one species to the other is a big leap, you're right. That's why it takes such a long time. Evolution has had several BILLION years to perform its magic. So that's probably why you don't "believe" in it since anything older than 6-7000 years is beyond your comprehension. Think of evolution as a filter and not a process if that helps.

Trying to explain your argument with a dog growing fins kind of shows your lack of knowledge when it comes to evolution. I really seriously doubt you've read a lot on this subject.

Feel free to retort but I've had it for now. Thanks for your input when it comes to engineering though  :)

Yah this is just a trial to see if all of my spigots and barrel work.  I didn`t want to waste anything and figured due to sugar content, these grapes would ferment and develop very fast, just enough to test out the equipment.

If everything is in working order, I will probably dump this wine and move to Muscadines as they are coming in right now.

Those Muscadines make good wine?

Incredibly I am not inebriated despite my rather crass choice of words as of late.  In my defense there are some concord grapes fermenting in my wooden contraption that will result in wine in a few days.  I am not sure what to expect as this is my very first foray into winemaking.  A trial run if you will.  Adonis Vineyards 2010.

Good luck, TA.  I don't know much about brewing of any sort, but I suspect it'll be a race between yeast and bacteria for the sugars.  A first fermentation in a sterile container might give you a higher success rate, and you could move the batch into wood to mature once you've achieved a protective alcoholic threshhold.

Also, winemakers frequently stop fermentation (or retard it) with sulphur dioxide (I think), presumably to protect flavor.  You could probably use heat to do the same, but I don't know what effect it would have on flavor.

Sounds like an ambitious project.  Good luck.

Its very sweet and can be pushed to a port or a mild dessert wine.  The Muscadine grows like wildfire around here and Jezebelle addicted me to eating them.  I really prefer dry Red Wine with deep Oaky, wood and tobbacco flavors, but I don`t mind a sweet wine every now and then such as a Blueberry or even a Strawberry Wine. (teh Gay, I know)

Very good information there and it corroborates exactly with what I am reading.

If this fails, I am going to try an old Southern Moonshining trick of just making Corn Cob Wine:

Corn Cob Wine

Yield: One Gallon US

Ingredients:

1 dozen raw corn cobs

1 gallon boiling water

2 pkgs yeast

9 cups of sugar

Instructions:

1. Place cobs in a container and pour boiling water over them.
2. Cover loosely with cheesecloth or a dish towel and let stand for 24 hours.
3. Remove the cobs and add the yeast and sugar.
4. Cover loosely again and let stand for 9 days.
5. Strain through cheesecloth, cover loosely, and store in a moderately cool place until it is fermented, which may take as long as 10 weeks.
6. Bottle.

Believe it or not, that simple corncob Wine is REALLY REALLY good and tastes like a great Riesling.

Here’s  something great to do with your leftover cobs! I first learned this from a book about wine-making traditions of Appalachia, though I’ve heard it’s mentioned in several other southern cookbooks.

You’ll need:

-  corn cobs
-  sugar
- yeast
- water
- a mason jar or some sort of container

Step 1: sheer kernels off your cobs and wash your jar with hot water.

Step 2: place cobs in container and fill with hot water. let stand for several hours.

Step 3: add sugar and yeast, cover with cheese cloth. in my case i had 4 cobs, a moderately sized jar and added maybe 1/2 cup of sugar. this sugar along with those from the corn will turn to alcohol, but at a certain point the yeast will reach level it can stand and will add sweetness to your wine. the best way to discover the right balance for you is through trial and error.

step 4: let sit for 5-10 days, taste the brew after a couple of days to see if it’s to your liking, every day it should be getting more alcoholic, when you like the flavor, strain your wine into a new jar (eliminating the cobs, yeast sediment), and you have yourself corn wine

note on yeast: bakers yeast is widely available but not always preferable, as it imparts a fairly strong aftertaste into your alcohol. if you have a home brew store in your area you can purchase specialty ‘wine yeasts’ without this after-taste, they usually cost $0.50-$2/packet and work for up to 5 gallons! another way to get your fermentation going is to make a starter from the natural yeasts in the air or the skins of fruit— this takes time though, so you should plan ahead. take an unwashed organic apple piece or strawberry, put it in a small jar with water and some sugar. cover the top with cheese cloth so flies can’t get in. leave it out for 2-4 days stirring it, it should be lovely and bubbly. now make your corncob wine, pouring this mixture in instead of yeast.

You are another case where you believe the Magical Dead Zombie in the Sky is watching your every move and that you can speak to it.  WHAT THE FUCK is WRONG with you Engineer Shit-Brains.  Its rampant amongst your kind.  I find it HIGHLY amusing that the majority of you can be so easily fooled and so damn stupid.  WHY??????????

I thought this thread was about mechanical engineering, not a goofball throwing temper tantrums and making a complete fool of himself.....AGAIN!!!

No its about a myriad of things.  You are another example of a religious Engineer/young earth Creationist Christian.

I get it.  Its like a cult with you people.  At least we can keep an eye on all the Christian Loonies and Muslim terrorists as they tend to gravitate and fester in your field.  Kind of makes it easier to keep tabs.

I have two of them and have no real use for them other than plain vanity.  Also, it filled my boredom for nearly a decade.  Totally useless though as I was brilliant beforehand and like anyone with a brain, you learn the most in your own spare time.

College is a waste, but is necessary for shitbrains and those who need to kiss anus for a job.  Luckily I don`t have to do any of that EVER.  I can sit back and laugh at the rats in the rat race for as long as I want and do and learn whatever I want, whenever I want.  I basically just pursue my passions, whatever they may be.

Hardly!! This is the major I picked, and it had nothing to do with my religious beliefs. Why don't you get off your behind, and out of your parents' basement and get a job?

You picked it because its conducive to SHITBRAINS.  Its no coincidence that your area of work and study is comprised of unusually HIGH numbers of Religious Literalists and Fundamentalists (especially Christian and Muslim) than any other field of study besides Theistic studies.

The Muslim Fundamentalism that exists among your ilk is just mind-blowing.  Nearly every single terrorist is or was an Engineer at some point.

The Christian literalists also flock to these fields in droves.  Its quite an interesting social and religious phenomena on display and it has and is being studied as we speak.

No problem my friend.  I REALLY hope you seriously reconsider your field of study.  You DO NOT want to mingle among these types of people.  It really is that bad.  You are an intelligent person and I think the more you research it, the more you will see just how loony these "engineers" really are.

I'm totally ok with the fact that engineering attracts religious lunatics more than other fields of study if that's the case. Any sources on this btw? That's something I seriously doubt I'll have to deal with up here in northern europe though.

But even if 95% of all engineers were lunatics, that still doesn't change anything about engineering itself. If you're interested in technical stuff and physics and like to design products/solutions and help people then go study engineering. That's what I want to do, at least.

You picked political science as a major, a degree you can get, simply by having a pulse. And, you're running your mouth about engineers?

GET REAL!!!

There are Christians in lots of fields. I tend to find a lot of them in the medical field (particularly nursing). So, once again, you can pry that foot out of your mouth.....or at least, attempt to do so.

Very true, however you are going to have to work with these irrational people at some point and that may prove to be quite difficult depending on their level of SHITBRAINEDNESS.

They all also left basic Science at home.  They are some of the most irrational , religious minded lunatics you will ever meet.  Look how many on this thread are Religious Shit-Brains yet "Engineers".  This field of study has one of the highest levels of religiosity of any type of study.  Look it up.

Tons of ignorant Christians and especially tons of Ignorant Muslims.  Flies to shit or shit to Flies however you want to state it.

Listen to how utterly STUPID you sound. Engineers left basic science at home?

Most engineers take more science courses in a SEMESTER than you've taken your entire life. I listed some of the courses in mechanical engineering (and those were freshman/sophomore courses).

its definitely harder than it was before, but yuo still have a better chance with engineering than most other degress.  the medical field is almost a guaranteed job though...people are always sick, need surgeries, etc.

 pharmacists

pharmacy is only a 6 year program too, which is nice compared to being a doctor...2 yrs of undergrad, 4 years of pharmacy school and your done.

At least in Illinois, pharmacy isn't the best field anymore. Walgreens has put a hiring freeze on pharmacists since the spring of '10. There are 3 pharmacy schools in Chicago area with 2 more opening. The influx of grads in the next 10 years will be huge and pay along with demand in the field will decrease.

Now, the big thing is doing a residency of 1-2 years after you graduate pharmacy school before you actually start working. Every pharmacist I talk to say it's a crock of shit and all it does is keep you poor for 2 years. IT's the exact same thing as on the job training and getting half the pay.

Anyways, that's something to think about because only like 5-6 years ago recruiters were going to pharmacy shools offering sign on and relocation bonuses to 4th year students. Now, it's hard to get your foot in the door.

I do realize there are a lot more areas in pharamcy other than retail but all of those places are getting saturated too.

Ok here are my credentials, Bachelors in Systes Engineerin with a minor in Compute Science, Masters in Engineering Management, and now currently a PhD candidate in Industrial Engineering, I originally started off in the Mechanical Engineering program, and after a year and a half i found out about the development of the Systems Engineering program at our University I switched because I thought it was more suitable to what I wanted to do, all Engineering is pretty fucking hard, but if I had to rank them i would say Chemical Engineering and Electrical Engineering are the two hardest in the field with Mechanical as second place, but in comparison i would say medical school is harder much much more memorization, remember medical school is a graduate program, you can do engineering in undergrad, let me know if you have any other questions
why would memorization be harder, I disagree
