Parents Sue Monster Beverage Over Girl's Death!

Get ready, you're going to need a script to go to Starbucks soon...

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - The parents of a 14-year-old Hagerstown, Md. girl who died in December are suing the maker of Monster Energy Drink, claiming caffeine in the product contributed to her death.

The complaint was filed Friday in California Superior Court in Riverside. It says Anais Fournier went into cardiac arrest after drinking two, 24-ounce Monster Beverage Corp. drinks within a 24-hour period.

Monster is based in Corona, Calif.

An autopsy found that Fournier died of cardiac arrhythmia due to caffeine toxicity that impeded her heart's ability to pump blood. She suffered from an inherited disorder that can weaken blood vessels.

Monster says it doesn't believe its beverages are responsible for Fournier's death. The company says it's not aware of any fatalities caused by its drinks. Monster says it will vigorously fight the lawsuit.

Same as the ephedrine...you'll see this all being regulated in the future.

1. A healthy heart, even at 14, shouldn´t stop from drinking this
2. Minors are not responsible for what they do in most cases
3. Parents are responsible for the freedom they give their child

so says Dr Dutch, progressive liberal

She didn't have a healthy heart, though. Some type of congenital defect.

And she's a minor, who had free reign to purchase this at the corner store.

So she's too young to understand the ramifications of her actions, the drink is retailed and marketed directly to kids...seriously, parents can't totally fight every marketer.

I'm not saying outlaw the drinks. Far from it. But should they be so easily purchased? Perhaps you should have to present ID to purchase?

I hate a nanny state. But I wonder sometimes if we need one, what with greedy marketers pushing the envelope further and further to drum up business with a younger target market than ever.

That said, the other side of my brain wrestles with the hypocrisy of my above statement. She could have just as easily killed herself with a few good strong cups of coffee from Dunkin Donuts. So should we outlaw that? Make kids present ID before they buy coffee? How about making kids show ID before they buy peanuts, in case they're allergic...

I'm not sure what my point is here. Just the feckless meanderings of a wandering mind starved for debate.

There would be a lot more people dropping dead if it took just 2 drinks. Gotta be more to the story.

She didn't have a healthy heart, yet she consumed 2 24 ounce drinks. She can read, and she knew her health issues. So if she decided to eat all the time at McDonald's and drink a ton of coffee, and something happened, should McDonald's ID kids for ordering coffee and Food?

Hell No! Personal Responsibility starts well before your teens. People want to be told now that they have overdone it, instead of using common sense.

What next, signs telling you not to stick your hands in a fire?

Or for my sore neck after using it as a pillow in some random strangers front yard after a crazy night of debauchery.

Here is the story. Very sad. Condolences for the family.  But what other factors contributed to this?  What else did she take that day? The day before?  Was this her first time drinking Monster drinks?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2221554/Monster-drink-company-sued-14-year-old-Anais-Fourniers-family-died-following-energy-drink.html

Monster Beverage has been sued by the family of a 14-year-old girl who died after she had just two cans of the energy drink. The Food and Drug Administration announced today it was investigating reports of five deaths associated with the drink and one non-fatal heart attack, prompting the company's shares to fall 14 per cent. Anais Fournier, died on December 23, 2011 from a heart attack brought on by 'caffeine toxicity' after drinking two 24-ounce Monster cans within 24 hours.

The FDA reported people had adverse reactions after they consumed Monster Energy Drink, which comes in 24-ounce cans and contain 240 milligrams of caffeine - or seven times the amount of the caffeine in a 12-ounce cola.

Sad. But monster is not responsible anymore than the curb manufacturer is after a hemophiliac stubs his toe and bleeds to death

So they have roughly 3-4x more caffeine than a 20oz, or the same amount of caffeine as a caffeine pill. I don't see the problem here, maybe dumb bitch shouldn't have drank 2 energy drinks back to back.

I just ate a bag of marbles and now I have a stomach ache.  Who can I blame for this?

Someone needs to pay because I am seriously in knots right now.

It doesn't matter now.  I just ate 2 lbs of chocolate, so I need to find someone else to sue anyway.
