I was thinking about this the other day...I don't think I've ever seen a pic of Arnold with a bloated face from all the dbol he took. Was he eating super clean all the time?

Maybe he just said he loved dbol but barely touched it.

:)

Great comparisons, everyone.

For arguments sake, let's say Arnold's upper legs were a little smaller than Mentzer, Dickerson, Coe and perhaps a little less hard (on the day of the contest) than Zane. If we want to say that, we can also say that Arnold's upper body was better than Mentzer, Dickerson, Coe and Zane, by around the same margin that his upper legs may have been worse.

If that's the case, we still come to the conclusion that he was as good - at the very least - as any of the top five. There can't be five equal winners, though. Something has to separate Arnold from the rest. In my opinion, that is his presentation and winning more poses than he loses, based on the many different muscles of the upper body than the lower. Just an opinion, though.

This contest is controversial for different reasons but a large part is because of how close it was. The photos and video speak for themselves. I don't know what Boyer Coe was watching but from everything that's been posted here in all of these pages, Arnold is just as good as anyone there.

Boyer had great arms but weak shoulders and "turtle shell" back, wide waist with weird abs. In 1970 Arnold beat him in both NABBA Mr.Universe and AAU Mr.World.Boyer avoided Arnold at his peak by not competing in IFBB until 1976 when Arnold was already retired. He was unable to go past Columby and Zane to win the Olympia and finally in 1980 Arnold beat him in IFBB.So he beat him in all 3 major federations NABBA,AAU and IFBB. Different judges-same result. The problem wasn't in the judges.Boyer should just accept the fact he was not in Arnold's league. He never managed to beat Zane let alone Arnold.

Arnold, Mentzer, Zane and Tinerino

I have always maintained that Arnold was in first with either Zane or Mentzer in second/third.  That fucking buttslut Dickerson should NEVER have been allowed on stage let alone in second.  There's an example of "favoritism" if ever there were one.  Pointy elbowed, Curious George eared, dinky armed, puny chested bottom boy.  Fuck That Noise.

And just so people here know it's me, Mentzer should've been a fucking man and come back with a vengeance just like Arnold did after losing to Zane in (?) '68.  .  People can choose to be better or bitter.  He pussed out and chose the latter.  A bitter whiner.

What a fucking shame.

CBS-TV paid good money in advance to broadcast the Mr. Olympia for three years (1979, 80 and 81). I don't think steroid use had anything to do with the reason they didn't air it. If you listen to the Boyer Coe interview I did on BodybuildingLegendsShow. com, he says that the producer from CBS told him they couldn't air it because it was so obvious, even to someone with no bodybuilding knowledge, that Arnold didn't deserve to win. And then there was the booing when Arnold was announced the winner. ESPN was airing lots of bodybuilding competitions in the 1990's so it had nothing to do with drug use. In fact, I don't think the general public and the media really became aware of steroid use until Ben Johnson failed the drug test at the 1988 Olympics in South Korea.
If Arnold was the clear winner, why were people booing when he was announced first place? Why did CBS television refuse to air the footage and then refuse to even go to the 1981 contest (even though they willingly paid the money they were contractually bound to pay)? Why was Sixty Minutes planning to run an investigation into the 1980 Olympia and air it on their show? I agree that Arnold does look like the right winner judging by the photos and the videos from the contest. However, it's always a different story when you see the contest in person compared to photos and video. I was at the 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1981 Olympias so I can give a good opinion on who deserved what in those shows because I witnessed it live. Most of us who are commenting on the 1980 Mr. Olympia were not there in person and many were not even born when the contest took place. If Arnold really was a clear cut winner, there would not have been such controversy and so many other people saying he didn't deserve to win it. It wasn't just because he wasn't at the same level from when he competed in the '70's. There must be more to it than that. Otherwise, how do you explain the booing, the non TV coverage and all this controversy almost 40 years later?

I actually think that if the contest was that controversial and it was clear Arnold was gifted more reason to air it , as controversy always bring more ratings and people's reactions, complaining throwing their two cents etc , rather than everyone agreeing Arnold won it fair and square ……...Probably Boyer says that was the reason to make the discussion even less debatable as they all claim it was so obvious (in that particular footage ) anyways .

And From the back Dickerson was unbeatable , yet Arnold won  ...this is why the 1980 is controversial in so many levels .

Good thing the Mr.O started to be won from the back from 1983 on  ;)

Most of Dickerson photos from the 1980 weren't published ...maybe there was a reason ?   although I heard Dickerson was happy to be runner up ( at the time ) while the entire line up had him beating Arnold .

Arnold beating both. Those trade mark poses of his are hard to beat.
