no vid of 315 but I posted a vid on one of cswol's 'benching' threads of me doing 6 pause reps with 365 and 3 with 405... surely not such a stretch to believe 12 with 315? It's hardly world class @ 240-something

thx bro, I only got 5.5 reps yesterday since I've not benched for so damn long (and I weigh under 220 now, losing weight kills my bench bigtime)

time to hit the tren and stop doing hammer machines I think

just curious, how tall are you and do you have short arms and a think torso ;D
I'm 5'9" with fairly long arms but they were my best bodypart! I was just getting ready to start my diet for a show! I felt great and never attempted more than about 6 reps with 315 with help! I got my first 6 relatively easy, and got to eight with no help and got a slight assist for the last 2! I have since gotten 10 on a smith machine about 5 years ago at weighing around 215!

About 10 years ago, I would typically bench 315 for 10 reps in 3 sets. Those days I used to train with Victor Martinez and Jason Arntz.

Today, I simply use dumbbells for chest work (flat, incline etc.) and always stay under 100 pounds per dumbbell. I can't afford a serious injury and my shoulders are hinting at one.

i'm curious, did you ever give Mentzer's old heavy-duty training style a run?

i'm talking his 2-way split training 4 days a week

day 1: chest, tri, leg
day 2: back, delt, bi

When I first started training I trained at the first all nautilus equipped Health Club in Philadelphia! The owner Roger Schwab was friends with Mentzer and Arthur Jones! I did a similar type workout 3 days a week! I was just starting out I made decent gains! I have always trained with moderate weights with medium to high reps! That has usually worked best for me! As I got older I learned I would change my workouts consistently to keep my body responding and growing!

good stuff, and thanks for the reply

it's hard to believe that casey v trained everything 3 days per week when he was being trained by AJ and in fact he did this during the famous colorado experiment

I wish I had a think torso ;)

Joking aside, you're right, that is damned impressive.  Before I gave up flat benching, I think my best was 8.  I vaguely recall getting nine once but I asked some goofy-looking fucker for a spot and he put his hands on the bar on the last rep (even though I explicitly asked him to not do a thing unless I said "Take it").  I don't think he helped but I don't count it.

Yeah, I know.  I did that Nautilus 8-12 exercise circuit for a good 8 months when I was 15 and brimming over with natural test production.  I did the slow reps, took everything to utter failure -- the works.  I even rushed from one exercise to the next like Jones recommended.

It kept me lean and my CO2 max must've been very impressive.  But after about a month, the strength gains stalled and, as the months went by, I became grossly overtrained.  Some people will scoff at that but it was true.  I was tired all of the time, came home from the 10th grade and slept until dinner almost every day ... done the Art Jones way, that routine is fucking GRUELING.

Sure, Casey was rebuilding former size and strength levels, was gobbling Dianabol by the fistful according to Mentzer (Arthur's "no drugs" bullshit would require someone to watch Casey every minute of every day; besides, Casey admits gorging on steroids for the "experiment" when he's feeling candid), and eating a shitload of food at the local greasy spoon 3-4 times/day.  I guess the saving grace was, apart from drugs and good genetics, the fact that the whole trial only lasted about a month.  Even some of the most conservative HIT-types believe in going overboard for a couple of weeks at a time to trigger a kind of emergency response; e.g., Brian D. Johnston and his "blitz" routines.  If you've ever seen him, you'd probably agree he's pretty good for an old fart natural, especially in the wheels and upper back.

Casey came to the gym I trained at Gold Coast Gym in Florida, and did a seminar in the early 80's! He was a dick, he held up his arm did a bicep shot and said you will never get arms like this! After the seminar I partied with him at my buddies apartment!

In the day....sounds pathetic and weak, too Ted Bundyish.  :-X

Working to get to two plates for 6-8 by falls end (pain free), then will worry about getting to 3 plates.
