Have faith in the creator of the show.

We're not going to get Black Widow fending off the alien invasion with two pistols.

It's funny that there's already rumors of the plot of season 2 when I don't think HBO has even officially announced a season 2.

They haven't.  But there's rumors because Pizzolato is discussing it publicly.  It's a shoo-in, because if HBO didn't pick it up, it would air elsewhere.

Exclusive: Jessica Chastain Offered Lead Role in HBO’s TRUE DETECTIVE Season 2

It’s hard to deny the most impactful show of the last season was HBO’s True Detective. From the word “go,” audiences were instantly on board with the twenty year journey of Rust and Marty to find the elusive Yellow King. In the end, the series reached massive critical acclaim and was confirmed to be seeking a full blown Outstanding Drama Series for HBO come Emmy time. But with all this critical acclaim comes questions, since the series exists in an anthology format that would completely retool the cast and story arc in Season 2. The major question looming over next year’s production? Who is going to lead the charge?

Recent rumors have stated series creator Nic Pizzolatto was seeking a female-driven cast for Season 2 of the hit HBO series, and now today, Nerdist has learned exclusively one of the names that may be on the bill in 2015: Jessica Chastain.

According to sources, the Zero Dark Thirty actress has been offered a leading role in the second season but has yet to accept. As for official confirmation, we reached out to representatives for Chastain, who have declined to comment at this time.

This would be a major land for the HBO series. Chastain has taken off since Zero Dark Thirty (Interstellar, anyone?), and as she continues to rise, it would be fascinating to see what she could do with a character over a ten-episode arc. As for who would stand alongside the Academy Award-nominated actress, that’s anyone’s guess, but for now, this is the best result we could have asked for.

They are definitely doing another season, no question. But women detectives as the lead role? I'm skeptical but there could be exceptions to the rule. Someone like Jodie Foster would be great, I think. No one can deny she was great in Silence of the Lambs acting in a similar role.

TRUE DETECTIVE Will Feature Three Leads in Season 2

Get ready to modify that twitter hashtag because we’ve got some juice True Detective news for you. In light of all the recent rumors, series creator and showrunner Nic Pizzolatto dropped a couple nuggets of info regarding the next season of the adored series on the To the Best of our Knowledge radio program. The info has to do with the cast and location of Season 2 and has been transcribed by MTV:

“Right now, we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California — not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser known venues of California — and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one. The characters are all new, but I’m deeply in love with each of them. We’ve got the entire series broken out with a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting in earnest in the coming months.”

You’d think Hollywood would have shot every last inch of California at this point in our history, but we’re willing to give Pizzolatto the benefit of the doubt on that one. The more interesting tidbit of info here is regarding the amount of leads the season will have. Part of what made the first season feel so personal was the fact that it was limited to the story of Marty and Rust, throwing a third person into the mix would have really cut the amount of time we got to spend with each of them. Still, that story was designed to be a serious take on the buddy cop construct, and thanks to the anthology format, no one says Season 2 needs to follow that path, so this is most likely something Pizzolatto has taken into account.

It's becoming too obvious that Marty is in on it.  Let me give you some reasons why.

Marty was insistent that they keep the case when his superior wanted to give it to the task force.  Even though Marty never seemed as obsessed as Cohl he wanted the case to stay with them.
Marty was the one pushing Cohl into the right direction.  The black cops thought it was the other way around.  Marty knew exactly where LeDoux's partner hid his truck. he claimed he missed it and had to double back but he knew his hideout.  Even though he claimed he wanted to call in backup he never took the chance to do so.  Cohl even told Marty to go call backup but he refused.  he wanted to kill Ledoux so that he can pin the crime on him.
Marty knew about the Bike gang and Cohl's Narco days and that's why he pushed him down that path.  he knew that Cohl would have to go under cover and they can do it without involving the police because they would never approach it.  Marty all along has been manipulating Cohl.
Now Cohl makes a big discovery at the end of the episode when he finds all of those little stick tents.  I believe he kept them all in his storage locker and that's why he won't let the black guys see it.  I also think Cohl figured out it was Marty and is storing evidence to protect him.
Marty was pissed when Cohl interviewed another suspect a few years later who knew what was going on.  Marty knew that the suspect would rat him out because he's seen him before and that if they went to interview him he'd be called out so he got that phone call made to ensure he killed himslf before so.
What if Marty hadn’t honked the car horn and sent he and Rust careening to the bayou compound of Reggie Ledoux and, instead, searched the school together when Rusty was interviewing the caretaker of that school?  Marty wanted out of there because Rusty was getting close
Just thinking back, Marty playing a little dumb but he is smarter than the show lets on.

Of course would this be too obvious? The writers have been brilliant and maing Marty the killer or involved would be too easy and too sloppy

Bet you're feeling like a fucking idiot now heh  :-\

Not a big fan of Colin Farrell's body of work. He's such a pretty boy schmuck.

Interesting choice in choosing Vaughn. I can't remember the last movie where he played a serious character.

Colin Farrell was GREAT in Horrible Bosses.  I don't like the scumbag either, but credit where it's due.

Had to revive this. Great show and i wish they kept the same actors but this upcoming season i will be watching and giving a chance just solely based on the fact that the first season was so incredible.
