I agree that he was an ass for not helping...

But I have to wonder, would you really punch someone out and risk your freedom/job/family/bank account?  Is an idiot stranger worth it?

The guy steps back and says "what'd you say".   And Nuu says "you heard me" then bitch slaps this guy so hard that everyone in the place could easily hear it. It was the loudest open-hand slap I ever heard.  Well I grab him quickly and tell them sorry he is drunk.  Anyway, the guy grabs his cell phone and calls the cops.  Nuu yells at him "go ahead and call the cops"  the guy says " I know who you are."  Well we are sitting there and the cops come in.  They knew me and Nuu.  So one of them talks to the guy and the other talks to us.  The first thing that comes out of the cops mouth was "Nuu brotha man you going to play this year."  Then he asks for his autograph.  In short, both cops got Nuu's autograph and nothing happened.

I was good friends with Nuu but I didn't like the way he handled not being able to play pro football anymore.  He had a temper (a samoan thing) but I felt bad for the people he intimdated.  If you recall his girlfriend and one time fiancee was Carolyn Sapp (Miss America) who was another close friend.  They did a Movie of the Week on Carolyn and portrayed Nuu in a very bad way.  There were many times he came to my place to get away from her only to have her call me looking for him.  He had to leave Hawaii after the  movie because I knew he felt bad about everything.  

Interesting story. I remember seeing that movie also. Is this Nuu guy still among the living?

There's a true story in Samuel Fussell's "Confession of an unlikely bodybuilder" that (I forgot the details and I don't have the novel on me) that tells of this big guy who was a hot head and owned some gym in southern California the 80's.  Apparently, there was a member there of the gym that was known for being late with payments. Finally, this guy just never paid his dues. The owner confronted the guy and demanded for payment, he refused. The owner (was all roided up too and nobody fucked with him) just let him go about his business working out. The owner then went outside to the parking lot with I believe a sledgehammer and totally smashed the shit out of this guy's car - breaking the windows and fucking up the body.
The guy hears the commotion and runs out to see his car.  He like "What the fuck did you do to car!"
The owner is like "We are even now with payments". I believe he got away with it too.

this crazy old bodybuilder(73) that works out at my gym told this kid when he dropped his dumbells from a incline bench that if he did it again he would throw him through the wall it was so funny the kid was like "sorry man" he was scared sh@tless.

My gym fight experiences are a little more serious, sad to say.

Due to a few problems among a few bodybuilders in the gym, the problem was taken outside and resulted in the death of one and eventually the death of the other.

Then another up and coming lifter got in a scrap that put him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

Tough guys, tough gym, tough times.
