No, he didn't.....at least, not against the competition he faced at the time. He should have competed after Arnold retired, if the Olympia were that important to him. But, getting that Hulk role was too much to pass up and ultimately ended up being the smart move for him.
07 Cutler is the worst bodybuilding decision in history. Period. Not just Olympia history, but bodybuilding history. He was just a soft, bloated mess. He shouldn't have even been in the top ten, let alone the winner.
SONNY COULD BE THE 90'S VERSION OF TONEY FREEMAN XMAN,,,
I have always been a big fan of the X-man.....is he still competing?...out of all the pro's I would have liked to have had his physique
First of all, Sonny is hardly getting killed in that shot. How you forget he is in the picture with at the time the two best BB's of that time. So you disproved your own point!!! C'mon man, you have to be brighter. No flow? No X frame? What are you on? And this was before the word X frame was even being used, and sorry but Haney could not get better legs or he would have. His calves were pathetic. You have to remember that these contest pics posted were at the end of Haney's era. He got out because Dorian, and even Sonny were starting to crush him. It was the beginning of a new era. When you actually had to have legs! Someone posted earlier on this thread something about Sonny which was correct having known him. It was that he was Samoan, his English was not the best, he rarely spoke at all!!! Very quiet. Even his best friends would say this. The weider machine was not going to have him as a front runner for Mr O. Also, every single person I mentioned in my posts, I trained right next to, with, saw them up close, and talked with them. So my perspective might be a little different than yours. Another example: Arron Baker! Forgot to mention him. Totally screwed at his prime. I can tell you for a fact that seeing him in the gym, that he looked f-n amazing! If you saw him, you would want that physique any day! Outstanding proportions as well. Back then, it was the Weider machine all the way. He called the shots and had the judges do so also. Peace. Ah,... Lousy taper? You are most definitely a noob, or an Iron Age dude, who won't recognize anything post 93. Get your head out of your ass!😳
Your post doesn't make a lot of sense. An era where you actually had to have legs? I'm sorry! How many times did Haney beat Tom Platz again? And if this were about race, why do the two men with the most Sandows just happen to be black? In fact, don't we have 5 black Mr. O winners, including the current champion?Schmidt was nowhere near Haney's level, not even in true contention for the title. He can't get past guys much smaller than he was (Ray, Labrada).Haney retired because there was nothing else for him to do. The last conquest was breaking Schwarzenegger's record. Once he did that, it was time to take his ball and go home.
One thing you will notice is that Sonny pretty much only looked really good in the lat spreads. Which was the opposite of Dillett, who only looked good when not doing a lat spread. I'd say that in terms of the lat spread of Ray, Schmidt, Labrada, I would think that they are equal. Schmidt's lower rhomboids are impressive.Since they (Schmidt, Yates, Haney) are not doing the same pose, one cannot say that he looked better than those two.
'81 Franco was the worst Mr O... hands down. Personally, I feel Padilla was the best man that day, but I wouldn't complain if they had given it to Platz. I have a feeling that all the Mr O competitors from the 90's who placed 2nd-10th wish they were competing against today's Mr O. competitors. Any one of them would've cleaned these current "pros" clocks.
Mcway, you completely got my post backwards about the legs. That number 1. Number 2, what the hell does race have to do with anything? Why did you bring up race! All I said was Sonny was Samoan and very quiet..I don't know what you mean about race? I'm to tired and have too much to do than go back and forth with you, when you can't even understand my post!
n true contention for the title. He can't get past guys much smaller than he was (Ray, Labrada).Haney retired because there was nothing else for him to do. The last conquest was breaking Schwarzenegger's record. Once he did that, it was time to take his ball and go home.
Listen about 7:30 Haney hinted he would be back , if you don't think Yates was part of the reason he decided to retire you're kidding yourself. Haney had everything to lose and nothing to gain by competing in 92 . he retired in his best shape ever and went out ontop , the same can't be said for Dorian , Ronnie , Jay and Dexter.
Could you blame him?
I mean c'mon. He was great for his time, but as you can see from everyother BB I posted, they surpassed him. Everyone has a preference, and for me, I was not crazy about his structure. A little top heavy. As you can see too, I don't post a bad picture of him to prove my point!
Read previous post Parker, and McWay! Wake up!!! Haney was not going to keep winning as you said, or out of the blue, create great legs. You are delusional. All the 90's guys were going to smoke him! which is why he smartly stepped aside and went out on top.
Hell no. That's why I admire Haney but Dorian would have beat him easily in 93 and Flex may have as well.
