Dips used to be my favorite exercise by far. I like to do them wide for chest and narrow for triceps and I'd do them at least 2x a week. However, now that I'm old (44) they seem to really do a number on my joints, particularly my wrists. I worked through the pain until this weekend and have taken a break since then (I'm going to try and do legs tonight). The wrists are slowly feeling better but I'd hate to give up this movement.

Any of u old guys experience anything like this?

The gym where I workout has a Nautilus weight assisted dip machine. The nice thing about this is that you can preform the movement regardless of whether you are able to hoist your own weight. I find that I benefit from exercises where I am not totally maxing myself out weight-wise.

yes we got a chin/dip assist machine too.. not bad at all but i am still doing Dips no Problem and chins. I find Dips better for my shoulders than bench press. I always liked doing Dips and push ups superset style for chest... a few sets of flys afterwards and you are good to go.

I did manage to do legs yesterday and shoulders today. I did some chest but it was tough and I don't want to make things worse. I'm hoping I'm close to 100 percent next week. Not being able to train like u want sux.

I started doing heavy (for me) weighted dips for both chest and triceps a couple of times a week and developed a nasty case of tendinitis in both wrists. The inflammation is finally starting to go down. Pretty painful. If I had to work w/ my hands I would have been fucked as any pressure on the wrists was super-painful.
when i get bad on dips it hurts front delt area for me,,i love dips but when i add weight and too much it hurts...

I am not a big fan of Smith  squats or bench press. I have done it now and again but i just like doing it with a bar.

had a shoulders session last night:

-4 sets dumbbell press
-3 sets dumbbell side laterals
-3 sets dumbbell rear delt raises
-3 sets dumbbell shrugs

never use anything else for shoulders, always dumbbells, I believe you have much better movement control with dumbbells.

after shoulder session, 15 minutes of incline treadmill cardio session.
I have noticed a great fat burning results since I have started doing incline treadmill at 10% incline at medium speed, a couple weeks ago.
Much better for fat burning than doing it on flat.
Today is cardio day only, sixth consecutive visit to gym and tomorrow is a rest day with plenty of carb refeed :D
