jay have faith,,,consistent, try to make the best of each workout, walk,or what u do in between...

Legs are a bit sore from yesterday. I'm not sure how much is from training them and how much is the sciatica. I am going to use the Tens pads on my back tonight to see if that helps with the sciatica.

Awhile back I mentioned that we have great walking trails near our home. I took some snap shots of the dogs taking me for a walk, which I'd meant to post.

Karen,

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter. Are you dying eggs for your daughter to find? I remember my wife and I doing that when our kids were young. Sometimes it is the simple things in life that make it so wonderful. Our kids are grown and long ago gone from the nest. I seems silly to dye and hide eggs for our two canine children, when they would much prefer Milk Bones. So I guess we will have to settle for a more adult style Easter.

We have invited friends for Easter dinner. I am not clear on what we are fixing. We had thought of a rack of lamb, but one of our friends dislikes lamb.

My sister will be with us too. I am bringing her home tomorrow from the hospital. She had an angioplasty today and she is not supposed to climb stairs, Her apartment is on the second floor. Our home has three bedrooms on the main floor. She will be using one of those bedrooms while she recovers. I never thought I would be caring for my sister who is almost 15 years younger than I am. My other sister died a few years back from oat cell cancer which had riddled her body. She was barely 50 years old.

It appears that evil rotten me is going to outlive most of my family. This is cruel punishment indeed for my misdeeds over the years.
Jay I had a lovely Easter apart from some stress from a guy. Other than that it was great. We had a family lunch on Friday and then I was home alone as my teenage children had their own plans. So I had a date that night. Then I had lunch with close girlfriends on Saturday and then went out on Sunday night with my best friend. Didn't dye Easter eggs as the kids are growing up and doing their own thing these days. I am sorry to hear about your younger sister passing away from cancer. It's painful losing someone you love. I still think about my Anatol. I wish your sister all the best and its really good of you to take her in and look after her while she recovers.

Today I trained my whole body using mostly Nautilus equipment, as I did last Saturday. One difference is that I did 20 minutes on the elliptical with the incline set at 9 and the resistance at 5 instead of walking on the treadmill. I think it actually helped remove some of the tightness in my right leg which is caused by sciatica. I did increase the weight on some exercises because they were already getting easier. I also did stretches prior to lifting. I stretched lower and upper back, shoulders and hams. I believe I am getting back on track as far as going to the gym on a regular basis.

At 5:00 a.m. my wife got up to use the bathroom and fell. She was on the floor for 2 hours before I heard her calling me. I got her back on her feet then she climbed back in bed to get some more sleep. I kept imagining she was calling me, but every time I checked on her, she was sound asleep. She lost a lot of confidence with that fall, but fortunately she did not hurt herself. I put the walker by her side of the bed for future nighttime or early morning forays into the bathroom. Obviously, her balance is off and she simply does not have the strength to get herself up when she falls. Maybe I need to insist she get one of those first alert things to wear since I cannot get her to keep her cell phone near her side or better still on her. She's had that cell for 3 or 4 years and not used it once yet.

So, are you saying that you were this sore from training or is there another reason? It is good to be a little sore after training, because it lets you know what you did affected those muscles. If you are so sore that you need pain medication, I would suggest you dial it back a notch. This seems counter productive. Not that I haven't been there. I remember working my legs so hard that I wasn't sure I could walk the next day. Like I said, this much torture is counter productive.

My advice is for you to see your doctor asap. There is a reason for pain, it is a warning signal that something is wrong. It is best to heed the warning. I remembered that you suffered and injury. However, I assumed you were healed enough to workout without the aid of pain meds. Since this is not the case, you obviously still have something wrong. I could be something like carpal tunnel or a pinched nerve in your neck or shoulder which can cause tingling and discomfort. Ignoring this condition is not a good idea. I know people who have lost or suffered a permanent reduction of the use of their shoulders, arms and hands. This is not something to mess with.

Might suggest that your have a pinched (inflamed) nerve round the neck/trap area. Any tingle could involve the nerve paths of the muscles. This is not all that uncommon. Too the extreme, perhaps a slight rupture/tear...hopefully not.

Would also suggest a professional deep tissue or sports massage to help the problem. Could also explore acupuncture, with a second choice acupressure if needles are a problem. Another option would be heat/cold pack alternates. Applying a lotion, cream, patch, etc before and after working out, may offer relief. Try keeping the area warm when working out; long sleeves, sweats, etc.

Good Luck

I'm sure Jay and Donny are honorable men. And as this is a opinion board, each is allowed to express their own. Feel free to abandon, or accept, any suggestions offered. That is how we can learn different approaches to training problems. Either from myself or anyone one else. You are the the master of your success, or failure, when it comes to training, injuries or any thing else. You judgement, or any bias, is the final path to training and progressive gains. Good Luck

so i worked legs today:
warmed up with jumping rope and 3x 50 full sit ups.

Superset:
leg extensions 4x15
Barbell Squats 4x10

Lying leg curls 4x15
Bend to opposite foot with DB left then right 4x10 per leg

Standing one legged DB calf raise 5x15

I went for a walk and did some sprints up an incline and jogged down again. I did this 10 times. felt great and really got my old pumper working. My legs were too tired for a long run so sprints on an incline were good with a 30 min walk too.
