Steve,

Your workouts are so advanced, that I feel like I am an amateur. This is okay. I may never look like you but I think I can learn a lot from you anyway.

Honestly if I have nothing more to contribute to this forum, it is that no matter how "mature" we are, we should never give it up. With any luck, I have a couple of decades left in this world. My goal is to make them the best decades they can possibly be.

My good friend a from the gym Earl, has a photo of himself posted on the hall of fame wall from the 1960's when he placed in a local bodybuilding contest and he looks amazing in this photo. Earl is 10 years older than I am. He has Parkinson's and has been advised by his doctor that he should not drive anymore. Earl still has an amazing physique. Earl has outlived more than a few training partners in the time that I have known him.

Last week, Earl told me he was going to give up his gym membership when it expired. After he told me this, I had not seen him at the gym. I worried, was he saying goodbye? Earl was at the gym today when I was there. He is still talking about giving up his membership. His reasoning is that he has all the equipment in his basement at home to continue his workouts. I told him he doesn't have everything he has at the gym. He seemed befuddled. I went on to explain that I was not at his home gym, nor were all the other folks who love him and kibitz with him everyday that he shows up at the gym. Sure he can train at home and I think he will, but what about all those years and all those connections he has made with all of us who will take a moment to pass the time with him. There is no gym culture at home.

I advised him to work out at home a few times before his annual membership dues were due and before he made a definitive choice to spend his time working out at home. Heck, I and a lot of other folks who love him would go out of our way to pay his membership dues and even drive him to the gym for a  work out, just to be able to interact with him. Not to bolster myself, but the folks who have foraged the trail for us need to be respected.

I kind of cut this short, because believe it or not, there was a knock on our front door. When I opened the door, there stood our daughter. She had been in town for a couple of days, and was hoping to surprise us and mostly her mother on mother's day. OMG, how wonderful it was to open the door and see our daughter standing there before us . She is the most wonderful daughter anyone could ever hope to have.

All the shit set aside, this is what has made my life so perfect. It is the love and devotion of our children to my wife and to me that makes us want to keep on keeping on.

I hope that all of you will someday have an experience as rich as the one my wife and I had this evening.

I just got back into working out after a year and a half of laziness. Currently, I am doing a workout which is specifically designed for mature folks. Each muscle group is worked once a week with the exception of calves, allowing for a long recovery. Workout sessions last usually about 45 minutes. Last week I did the routine exactly as written. This week I am not only upping the resistance, I have added some reps just to change things up some. I am surprised how quickly my strength is returning. I guess "muscle memory" is for real.

The horse in the photo was my horse. It is one of two I had during that time. The photo was taken in the front yard of my parent's home. Although we only had about an acre, there was a two stall stable and a small pasture behind the pool area in the back yard. One of my horses was proud cut, which means he was gelded as an adult. He was pretty spunky. He decided to throw me a few times and then run home on his own like a naughty kid. I'd just get right back on him and ride him some more. He also would sometimes get a hair up his butt and bolt. He was pretty hard to stop when he took off running like that.

I don't remember protein drinks back then. I did drink banana milk shakes with a couple of eggs in them everyday trying to put on some weight. I was so thin that our family doctor prescribed D-bol and gave me a testosterone injection once a week for several months at a time. I did two or three of these doctor prescribed cycles before I was 18 years old. My weight went from 126 in those photos to 160 or so when I was 18 years old.

The least I have weighed as an adult is 155 and the most is 225 lbs. when I was 29 and did another couple of cycles of D-bol, which my doctor gave me a prescription for. Seems stupid that D-bol is illegal today. As we all know, you can still get it, but you never really know if what your getting is legit or not. These days, I inject 200mg of testosterone cypionate once every 14 days because I have very low testosterone levels for a variety of reasons.

The gym looks really nice. I did not know Father's Day was on a different day from the U.S. in Germany. Next Sunday is Mother's day here. I am not sure when Father's Day is, but it comes after Mother's Day in the U.S.

JUNE 16

I'd get a card for my son and my son-in-law for father's day since both of them are great fathers, but my wife is the greeting card queen and she undoubtedly already has this covered. My wife has asked me twice now what my plans are for Mother's day. I'd surely tell her if I had some. :-[

Now Prime does she keep all the cards received over the years? I admire your effort over the years (no homo) you really got to have the desire to keep going so many years as you have.

Wow, I think you are describing the exercise exactly the way I do them on this machine. There used to be a shrug rack that looked kind of homemade in the gym which you loaded with plates on the sides. The grip was parallel which is really comfortable. Unfortunately, it seems to have vanished. The Hammer Strength ISO is great for shrugs. Today I went light on them because I am doing a trial run on more reps and less weight. When I want to use a lot of weight doing shrugs this equipment allows me to do that comfortably and I am still able to squeeze and pause at the top of the lift.

Yes all of you are being most helpful to me, not only with tips, but also with encouragement,

Before my wife and I moved to Oregon which was nearly 50 years ago, we belonged to the Beverly Hills Health Club. It was an interesting gym. The men's and women's gyms were completely segregated. A lot of actors and wanna be actors worked out there along with fat old producers and managers. The hand a line up of multiple vibrator machines which were especially popular with the senior set. The way they worked was you'd stand there with a wide belt around your waist and the machine would supposedly vibrate the fat off you. I don't think they worked, judging from the folks using them.

It surprises me that they are still in use at some clubs. I have not noticed any vibrator machines at the clubs I have been to in the Portland area.
