this shoulder workout i like....

Why you doing all those warmups man just a waste of time. Just do a couple sets then go heavy. No disrespect you got joint problems or something that require more warmups?

I sometimes do warm up sets just to get the feel of the movement before hitting it. It may be a waste of time and a little energy as you suggest, but I enjoy doing them anyway.

Yesterday when I worked my back, I went really light on the resistance, concentrating instead on movement and speed. I am feeling the effects of that back workout today. So even though I did not really tax my strength, I accomplished something beneficial in my opinion. I also got through the routine in less then 45 minutes which is the ideal time for me to workout and not lose energy. I left the gym feeling like I could do a little more, which is sometimes a very positive feeling.

Have you ever considered that if you increased the resistance by only 5 lbs. a month, you'd add 60 lbs. to you lift in a year? I currently top out on seated one armed curls @ 45 lbs. for 8 reps. I doubt I would be able to do this with 105 lbs. in a year, but it is interesting to think about it that way.

Anyway, it is summer, I am in a mood to slim down a little. My stomach is looking flatter and my body appears a little more defined then it did in May. Even with the unforeseen time off lately, I feel like I am making improvements. I may not be on the competition stage with Cswol in a year, but hey, it's all good!  ;D

shoulders i do warm up more than any Body part. The shoulders are very delicate and recieve enough from incline benches ..even back Training hits them to a degree.

I understand as being older more warmup is required. Which back exercises did you do? Yea if you think about it adding 5lbs a month in 24 months you would doing 165 impossible although we always strive to do more.

I was talking to a young fellow at the gym yesterday about his conditioning. A year or so ago, he was about 216 and now he is 196 lbs. I guessed that he had lost about 20 lbs. and I was right on. He is probably about my height give or take an inch. He looks great and he says he feels great. He said he really enjoys the difference in how he feels when he runs now.

I've noticed that when he is working delts, he really keeps the resistance light. If his boulder shoulders are a result of this, he is doing something very right because the light weights seem to be working.

In contrast there are two fellows who train together who are really huge. One is big and also fat the other is just swole. Without a doubt these fellows are strong. One of them was working his back on the equipment I normally use yesterday. This is probably why I noticed how he preforms the exercises. On each machine he loads 4 or 5 plates on each side and then does a rapid succession of really limited movement exercises. For example, on the Hammer low back row, he move the weight about 6" if that. On some equipment, he needs help getting the weights into position and then again he barely moves them. This is not a one day or one time thing, he an his training partner workout in this manner all the time. I guess it makes one big, but the lack of range of motion cannot be a good thing in the long run.

I am going to stick to full range movements and lighter weights. At my age, I cannot afford to do exercises that are likely to make me less flexible than I already am.

so correct Jay.. i like to feel light, fast, flexible and strong for my size. I am not a Marathon runner but i like endurance also in my muscle Training. I really mix it up. Full range of Motion is the best way...partials are oK at the end of a hard set..you know what i mean.

Not to be critical of young folks, but this fellow looks to be in his 20's. He better be fit at his age.

Things I noticed when watching the video were that he pauses (rests) at the bottom of the exercise sometimes which relieves the tension and lessens the impact of the movement, IMO. He also exercises at a pretty fast pace. I prefer slower more controlled movements. When doing dumbbell side delt raises for example, if I feel like I am involving my back or jerking at all, like he appears to, I lower the resistance.

Not to be morbid, but you have no idea how funny asking my wife for a blow job would be. She is on oxygen 24/7. Granted the air hose is in her nose, but the image of her going down on me is hilarious. Unfortunately, my wife is not healthy enough for sex. We settle for cuddling and giving each other back and foot rubs. Not very sexy, I know, but whatever works and since we are still together after all these years, it would seem we have figured out what works for us. Unlike some people on Getbig, my wife enjoys my daily exhibitionistic tooth brushing and beard trimming in my bright colored underwear. She thinks they are hot....especially the orange pair. Guess I am just a piece of meat to her.... ;D

I am sorry to hear this Jay.  I do recall you posting about your wifes condition.  I guess I just forgot briefly, as my mind skipped ahead of all the fun stuff.  Love is about more than sex.  I am sure you can compromise in the bedroom.  Maybe she just lays back and enjoys while you do all the work?   ;D

You are a good dad. I don't know your girls, but I would bet they love you regardless of how pumped you are. Skip the dumbbells and just swim in the ocean and run on the beach. You are not going to lose any conditioning in a week anyway. A break is good. If you don't think about working out for the next week, you will blast it when you get home and go to the gym. Bodybuilding doesn't have to be an obsession.

A block from the ocean....man am I jealous. Maybe it is time for my wife and I to rent a place down in Lincoln Beach or Seaside for a week. Our kids are grown, but the dogs love the beach. So all is good. I can get the neighbor boy to water my yard. Wow! What and idea. I think we need a break from the same old routine that fills our lives most of the year. Late summer is the best time of the year here for good weather at the beach.

She's shy or even coy after all these years. Something else to love about her. Thanks for the idea about me doing all the "work?" not  that it would be. Chances are we will at least enjoy a good laugh over the idea of having sex at this point. But hey, it is all good.
