Anyone here get pre workout anxiety? I'm trying to regain some strength so every workout I'm trying to beat my last. I know it's a bad strategy trying to go up linear but I'm trying to regain strength lost and that is usually easier except for the age factor.

Here I go. Going to do my pre workout ritual of putting on the radio and Olympic lifting shoes. Chalk up the hands and warm up with 135lbs power cleans. Uggg. So stiff at this age. Once I'm sweating I'll be hitting it hard. Just so hard to start.

Minimalist upper body workout this morning:

3 sets of DB laterals.
3 sets BB (empty 10 lb. bar!) shoulder presses.

3 sets close grip pull downs.
3 sets upright machine bench press.

3 sets alternate DB curls.
3 sets tricep pushdowns.
1 set close grip upright machine bench press.

That's all folks!   ;D

And yes, I get upset that I am no longer the man I was as little as three years ago, let alone a couple of decades.  I cannot do any real weight in shoulder presses with a bar.

I feel better after a few basic stretches.

I think with chest press and back work youŽll be fine. db laterals will be enough. No training for me today but i will tomorrow. Clocks go back an hour here tonight.

I've not experienced pre-workout anxiety. This is probably because I am not as intense about working out as you seem to be. Is it possible that you are to fixated on what you once were able to do as opposed to doing the best you can now and cutting yourself some slack.

Don't lose sight of the main purpose of working out is for good health. Setting goals is great, just make sure they are realistic for your situation and age. If you can do this, I believe rather than being anxious about working out, you will look forward to hitting the weights.

I put a leg of lamb in the oven to roast about an hour ago. Just added potatoes to brown around the meat. When it comes out to rest, I will start the grilled zucchini. Sunday dinner....easy fixing....nice leftovers.

Good advice. Still trying to fight the good fight though.  I guess I'm as ego driven and maybe have some insecurities too like any guy who lifts to look good. It just hurts to think how I use to look, what I use to lift and how I use to get compliments on my build when that doesn't happen anymore. All I get now is an occasional you look  fit. Ugh.

I use to use the same routines for years before changing the split and the amount of sets. Now that I'm older I change routines after 2 weeks. I use to think I just got bored. I really think what's going on is that my body just doesn't respond like it did and I think I can fix that by trying something completely different. It's all just lifting weights.

I get it. Sometimes when I see at myself in the mirror, I wonder who that old fart is who is looking back at me. I've led a healthy life. My genetics are reasonably good. Folks act surprised when I tell them my age, they say they thought I was much younger. That is all well and good. Never-the-less the fellow I see in the mirror looks a lot older to me than I feel most of the time.

I change my workouts a lot lately. Donny I think you inspired me with that super set workout. I haven't done super sets in ages.

Today was just cardio for me. 8 sets of 400 meters with a 200 meter walk for the rest interval.

I think your Cardio was enough ;D I like working chest+back together. Most people i know do a push/pull or shoulders/back..legs.. chest arms workout.  3 Day splits have went out of Fashion but are good for recovery. Going to a 3 day split for a while is not a step back because you can still workout hard but with more rest.

Since losing weight recently, I noticed my stomach is a lot smaller. Unfortunately, there is a little loose skin there now. Hope it tightens up some....it isn't pretty. Not sure exercise will help this. Been applying coconut oil to my belly skin to see if that makes a difference.

Yesterday sucked.  I tried and got through 8 total sets between back and chest.  Tried for some intensity for immensity!   ;D

Ah well... Today I knocked out 16 sets of shoulders followed by 11 set   for biceptuals and 15 for triceptuals.  10 sets of alternating DB curls followed by one set of curls with non-Weider arm blaster with a straight (no homo) bar with a massive 40 lbs on it.  If only I had used a Weider bar, I would've quintupled the weight!

10 sets of tricep pushdowns and then  5 sets of close grip machine bench presses.  At roughly 6 feet tall (sometimes I like to say, 5' 11 and 15/16ths inches!)  I weighed in a 187 the other morning.  My body fat is just that - FAT.  The device I use to measure it still says I am 20%.

I am beginning to think the only cure for my problem is more cowbell.  Or something.  Train on gentlemen!
