Does socializing get in the way of your workouts? My wife and I have never been a let's socialize with other couples type of people. She goes out with her girlfriends on occasion and the same as I do with the guys. We mainly go to restaurants and do things together. Last night we met two other couples for drinks. Round after round went down. You would think I would have more discipline being involved in bodybuilding.

One guy's wife was an attractive curvy blond that I thought was flirting with me. Just wonder if she caught me checking her out and she liked it? Maybe it's just her nature to be flirty. At the end of the night she hugs me and kisses me on the cheek really enthusiastically and with all the good bye talk between everyone she comes back and hugs me again with another kiss.

What's the point of all this?  I'm hung over and tired. Here is back day. Trying to get up the will to put on my workout clothes and start my power cleans. What I really want to do is to take a nap.

i would be careful. Does she flirt with other guys? I had a similar thing which happend to me. A couple who we knew. She knew my wife well and remember one time at home she just walked in the Bathroom when i was in the Bath. She asked my wife where is Donny, oh he´s in the Bath and she came in.  She phoned one time and asked if i was at home alone.. which i was...and she appeared at my Door. I let her in had a coffee and she tried to kiss me. I just did not want the trouble. Good looking woman but i know she flirted with other guys. Would have caused trouble i think. Just be careful Rich...

... the same woman who flirted with me  was with her husband at a Barbecue which we had. Now invited was another woman who hated her. This shows how Bitchy women are... she started talking about this flirty woman in front of everyone saying i heard you fucked a friend of mine and went into details. Everyone just looked at the flirty woman's poor Husband who stood up and said, i think we need to talk and they both disappeared quick. i said to the woman who said all this, WTF was that? She said well she suspected her Husband had fucked her... so revenge was truly sweet. That's why i would watch out bro... ;) Women you can never trust.

I got that back workout in. Everything went well except for one exercise. For some reason my pull ups were really weak. Going to throw some in every time I am at the gym even if it's not a back day. What do you guys think about that? I just read about that in a Men's Health magazine. Some guy wrote if you're weak at pull ups do some every workout day.

seen these programmes before. If you are only concentrating on chins it´s ok but with other muscle groups in a normal split i doubt it will last long. try every second Day. i knew a guy who said every time he went in his bedroom he did chins on a doorway chin bar. Even he as a strong guy never lasted long.

whats weak?

Just couldn't get my usual reps in doing pull ups. I was down 2 reps. Maybe my lats and shoulder region are weakened from all the stretches I have been doing for my shoulders.

Did one set after power cleans and deadlifts so I was weakened. I did one set of dead hang and medium slow pulling the bar to my upper chest region, not up to my chin where my elbows are all the way down against my rib cage. I usually get 10 of them and I got 8 with body weight. On a good day I can slop out 17 or more jerking swinging pull ups if I don't go all the way down and barely pass my out stretched chin like most guys do them.

Going down 20% is just a big downfall for me. Maybe it's just an anomaly.

Flex can attest to how cold it is in NJ today. It was only 30 degrees but the wind was whipping. I ran today dressed like a mummy. Only runner on the trail today. Only got two miles in. The wind, being dressed like a mummy and exhaustion kept my time down.

Tomorrow is legs. No cardio except for maybe a walk.

I understand the chin biz, believe me my friend!  Its frustrating.  I cannot do power anything, let alone power cleans, LOL!  Good work!

Today I began to try upping intensity so I warmed up with palms facing inward chins pulling to my neck on three sets of 11 to 5.  Next up one set to failure on wide grip pulldowns followed by one set to failure on machine medium grip rows.

Smith Machine incline bench press.  First set was 11 reps.  Second set was my working set to failure and I only got five before I felt that was it!

Pec Dec laterals to failure followed by machine bench press to failure.

One warm up set of machine sit ups and then one working set with weight.  I forgot to do shrugs so I will include them tomorrow at the end of my shoulder routine just before arms.

One of the medications they have me on gives me severe cramping which makes training HARD ridiculously hard.  I am going to speak with them about this stuff on Thursday.  It is killing me.  I was watching a film the other day and my sartorius muscle cramped up and sent me rolling on the floor in agony like man possessed by a retarded demon.  ;D

I hate it when I look like a retarded demon.

Keep up the good work, lads!

Has anyone ever suggested to you that you are one crazy dude. Really running dressed as a mummy? Thank goodness you didn't freeze your lungs. Well at least no one will ever accuse you of being a pussy. I'm impressed.

Does it count that we had high winds and driving rain here today and I braved putting the dogs in the car an running a couple of errands? Guess not, since I was safely ensconced inside the car. The dogs did fog up the windows. Does this earn me a couple of macho points? It is hard driving around with fogged up windows. ;D

After a shower at 10:00 a.m. my wife has mostly slept all day long. Before anyone reads anything kinky into this, nothing exhausting happened in the shower this morning....I wish! Anyway, as soon as The Bachelor came on, she was suddenly alert. Should I be jealous of this farmer?

The tension is huge in our house lately. As a result of an unfortunately misunderstanding last Saturday night, I told my son-in-law and daughter to get out of our house. It's a long story which I won't go into here. I am not going to back down for a couple of reasons, mainly though because I think it is what they need to do for their well being. In the midst of the turmoil, I had an aha moment which clarified that my son-in-law needs to be master of his own house and not mine. It is a hard time but at the end of the day, I think we will all be happier living apart.

My son-in-law said some very hurtful things to me. I reacted to them. It was ugly. I am not speaking to him right now for fear that I will ignite more strife. This is no way for any of us to live.

Chest workout was... a Home workout.

parallel bar dips 4 x max
incline flys superset with Incline Barbell press 4 sets

Hanging knee raises 3 x max. will go later on for a run in the woods.
Seated Barbell calf raises 5 sets.
Short and straight to the point.

I took a little excursion to a neighboring suburb to look at some houses for sale. This area originated as a retirement community with most of the homes surrounding a golf course. Since the homes were built to accommodate retired folks, most of them have only two bedrooms. The attraction for me is that we'd be in a place where there is no room at the inn should family want to move in with us. Also most of the houses are townhouse style with enclosed courtyards on one side and views of the golf course on the other side. This would really cut down on yard maintenance for me. Should a time come that I am free to travel, I would be able to leave for months at a time and not have to worry about anything.

The downside of this community is that the homes are relatively expensive. Additionally, there are monthly maintenance fees which vary depending on location. We'd be downsizing our lot and house size, but not so much our expenses. Another downside is that Charbonneau was developed in the 70's and 80's so a lot of the properties need updating.

One place I looked at today has a lot of features I like. It has a large courtyard which is great for the dogs and it has expansive views from the house and patios over the golf course on two other sides. It is nicely sized at just over 2,100 sq. ft. with two bedrooms and two baths so the room sizes are generous. The décor is definitely stuck in the 70's. There is dark wood trim all over the place and carpet galore, even in the bathrooms. The interior would be a total gut and redo. Actually so would the court yard since most of the shrubs are seriously overgrown. The deck off the kitchen needs to be replaced and there are a couple of trees which were cut down leaving ugly stumps in their place.

Another place I saw is more move-in ready. It has great light with generous windows on the south and west sides. It is somewhat newer having been built in the late 80's. The backyard needs a fence as it backs up to a common area which includes the community pool and our two dogs would go nuts running free and barking at the swimmers. Some of the details in the home would need to be updated. The biggest drawback is that the second bedroom and office area are upstairs. I guess we could live with this because the master bedroom is on the main floor. A bonus I like is that there are two fireplaces. The current décor is a little Las Vegas or Arizona looking for me. I'd rip out the sea of white carpet and install hardwood floors. The banister on the staircase is kind of cheesy too, so it has to go.

I still have not had a conversation with my daughter or son-in-law. They've packed up some of their kitchen stuff, I've noticed. I have no idea when they plan on moving out but I hope it is soon. Ironically, the cabinet maker emailed me that he would like to install the linen cabinet on the 20th. This will pretty much conclude the upstairs bathroom remodel which I paid for and my daughter and husband designed. After they move out, it will largely go unused. And no, I am not going to rent that space out. From here on out, it is just going to be my wife and me living in our home. We are so done with taking in strays. First up, we will blare the TV if we choose. LOL.

Prime, it's really heart breaking when there is division in a family. My wife's family is all divided up with different alliances. My wife who has done nothing and is really easy to get along with. Some of her family won't even talk to her. I just don't understand it. On my side of the family everyone is kind and tries to get along. I had my side of the family over for a Christmas party and it was so much fun with zero hostility. If it was my wife's family they would call to see who is showing up prior to committing to come over the house. Of course everything isn't gummy bears and Weider super 101 protein powder on my side but we get along without malice.

Today I trained legs. I thought about workouts past from 10 years ago and even 30 plus years ago. I can't do what I used to and I have to accept that. I have to be the best at my age and not compare myself to a 23 year old version of myself. I think most guys that lift weights and do cardio over 55 years old can vouch that they look no where remotely like their counter parts that exercised for the last time 25 years ago. Many of these young guys have no clue what it takes to be in really good shape as you approach 60 years of age. They juice in their 20's and into their 30's. Eventually because of health, finances, or even arrest they will have to go off the juice. When they hit 50 they will be a mess but in their mind they think they will be ripped and buff. The are not even ripped and buff without the syringe in their youth so I don't get their expectation of being in shape as they get older.

It's said that we only get one or two really good friends in this life and that is if we are fortunate.  But relatives?  Sometimes it feels like they showed up (uninvited!) for dinner and decided to stay for life.

Prime, worry not about the kids because the truth of the matter is that they're adults.  Forgiveness may well be divine but you are only human.  Forgive that which you can but be certain to remember it all.

I am rambling, aren't I?

Dammit.   ;D

Today was shoulders, arms and waist.

Five warm up sets of DB laterals followed by two (!) working sets with as heavy a weight as I could manage for 6 reps.

Next up was one warm up set of Smith Machine shoulder presses and then one working set for 5 reps at which I considered that to be my failure point on that movement.

Barbell cheat curls.  One warm up set and then one drop set to failure.
Alternate DB curls. Again, one warm up set and then a drop set to failure.

Triceps were up next.  Pressdowns for a set of 30 and then a drop set to failure.
Close grip Machine Bench Presses  done in negative fashion for five reps total.
Bodyweight dips for 10 reps (failure point).

Two sets of machine sit ups with the second being the working set.

Done.

In closing I am happy for you and your wife.  You have spent a lifetime together but never has togetherness been more needed than now.    Be well, my young friend.  The both of you.

Train hard, lads!   ;D

Superb!  I wish I could handle half the weight you do, sir!

Tomorrow is back and  chest again and I must try and up the intensity once more.  It is difficult when alone but to be honest I've trained alone now (with rare exceptions when my son would join me) for 27 or so years.  Most of it at home in the garage.

I don't know if my leg can take it but I will try a set of stiff leg deadlifts tomorrow with just the oly bar to warm up and then maybe a pair of 45s for a total of 135.  I have no idea what the weight on a Smith Machine really is but I can tell you this, it ain't what it reads to be.  Much, much lighter than what adds up.  Wimpy time for me.

Alive and lifting, so I've got that to be grateful for.  Along with so much more.

Prime, my youthful cohort.  Never forget that when the plagues of the world were set loose from Pandora's Box and all seemed lost to mankind that inside was Hope.  The Box I speak of now is your heart.  Hope is within my friend.  Open your heart and set Hope free.  Give her Hope for now and for eternity yet to come.

Your wife loves you.

G'night gentlemen!

Thanks all for giving me a place to vent.

I am pleased to read about each of your workouts. Hopefully, I will get back into the swing of working out soon. Right now, there is just too much going on at home for me to slot the time necessary to hit the gym. Hopefully, my 70 year old tits don't start sagging like Bruce Jenner's do since I have no desire to look like a woman. LOL!

Today was a pretty good day with my wife. She was awake and alert most of the day. She went to be at about 8:00 p.m. tonight because she wasn't feeling too well.

As for my daughter and son-in-law, nothing has changed. I hope they will be able to find somewhere to move pretty soon so this tension that them being here is causing is done with. I would offer to front them some move money if I didn't think it would cause another drama. That their income is as mine is, should put them in a pretty good position financially. Unfortunately, they spend a lot more of their income then I do mine.

Did a quick chest and bicep workout today. Used one set to failure to be done with it. It's really draining to do one work set until you're blue in the face trying to get the reps to failure. I was so exhausted I canned my planned run. Pissed off about it but tomorrow will just be cardio.

dumbbell flat bench 1 x 9 (used as full a range of motion that I could. All the way down)
Incline barbell bench 1 x 10
flat flies 1 x 14
push ups 2 x 22-14 (push ups are perfect way to end pecs. They are shot so a low number of perfect push ups pumps them up)

barbell curl 1 x 14
alternate dumbbell curls 1 x 20 (ten each arm)
