Let's mix all the cat and dog foods together. Pet equality FTW!!!

Where do you shop where dog and cat foods are in different aisles? ???

Yes, it is. Just because their job is to sell merchandise doesn't mean that everyone is mandated to buy it. So, part of their job in selling the merchandise is making sure their customer base is feels comfortable with how it is sold to them. Why do you think these corporations spend billions on marketing? It's no different than a restaurant chain tauting its food as responsibly raised.

No, it's not their "job." They do it to make sales. But it's really not their "duty." We hold a higher expectation of parents to make their children feel comfortable. That is an inevitable part of a parents job. It is not inevitable that a department store is mandated to make you feel comfortable-it's a byproduct of them wanting to see items. Society doesn't place the comfort and care of children in the department stores hands. It's placed in the parents hands. So, no, it's not the department stores job to make you feel comfortable.

There is a greater expectation in society that parents will make their kids feel comfortable. Heck, to a certain extent, it's expected by law-certain actions that are deemed extremely inappropriate may involve jail time. There is no such standards for department stores. I've been in stores that are total shit holes. Again, it's not the job of a department store to make a kid feel comfortable.

Organizing toys by gender is slightly less arbitrary than randomly placing them around the store, so it likely wouldn't be of help to anyone with sensory or developmental disabilities.

Saying it likely won't have an effect is entirely different than saying it won't.

Unless you can provide evidence of your claim?

So , you just said this a few posts back:
Department stores are there for one reason: to sell merchandise.

So,it is either their job to sell merchandise or it's not.

Considering this was in response to you explicitly saying you were playing "devil's advocate" to a position even Target didn't put forward, what kind of evidence are you expecting? Is this even a position that anyone besides you has suggested? The toys are still in the store in the toy section. No one who finds a section of traditionally girl-focused dolls and traditionally boy-focused action figures in the same aisle is going to suddenly become confused about what they want to purchase because of their close proximity to each other. If they can't figure it out from there, a gender specific sign is not going to help much.

So , you just said this a few posts back:
So,it is either their job to sell merchandise or it's not.

Well, see thats the difference. Its their job to sell merchandise to stay  in business, but its not their job to make you feel comfortable. To a great extent, making you feel comfortable is secondary to you buying merchandise, since Ive been in shitty stores and purchased items.

However, for parents, love and comfort are not secondary. Its primary. According to societal standards, its the job of parents to provide love, comfort and support to their children. This is not an option. In certain cases, when the opposite happens, authorities are involved. We don't place the comfort and care of children in department stores hands.

So, at the end of the day, no, its not their jobs, in the same way that its the parents jobs to provide love and comfort to their children. The standards of care are demonstrably different.

Sorry, you're not going to win this one. I actually can't believe I am even debating this point with you.  :-\ :-\

If a kid goes into a store for a GI Joe and comes out with a Barbie then the scene is already set.

He didnt get it by mistake.

Parents blame the pavement when their kids scape their knees.  ::)

Chances are the individuals who raised so much shit about this issue don't even have kids.

No one else has said that it is a department store's job to love and comfort a child  "in the same way" as a parent. That is a comparison that YOU introduced. Different retailers have different goals, but for most -and for Target specifically- creating a welcoming, comfortable  environment that encourages sales is a major goal. Even if, as you said above, it is a secondary goal, it is still a goal. There's no getting around that. No one else is making the argument  that a department store has to behave like parents, but it is reasonable and expected that they behave in a way that fosters moving merchandise and not turning off their clientele.

Well, I am sorry, but if you were too fucking stupid to realize that in my first post there was an obvious demonstrable difference between the comfort a parent provides when compared to a department, then you, sir, are fucking stupid. Two other posters were able to make the distinction.

No, shit, department stores want to make you feel comfortable to sell you merchandise.  ::) ::)

But at the end of the day, the sole care and comfort of children is solely the parents responsibility. Again, if you couldn't initially discern this, like two other posters did, then you certainly are not the "sharpest tool in the shed."

::) You're the one who just re-iterated the "department stores aren't parents" thing in your last post. I guess you have a problem  keeping track of the nonsense you write.

I guess  where you are confusing yourself is by making this a kids issue and focusing on whether or not the store should have a parental relationship to kids who are in the store. Just think of the kid as a customer. A regular customer. Is it the store's job to create a comfortable experience for the customer?Yes. Is it required by law or child protective services? NO. No one said that either.  ::)

The simple fact of the matter is that it is reasonable and expected that a store would adjust their policies if if it became clear that they were somehow alienating a portion of the buying public to whom they wanted to appeal. You are veering all over the place making a completely nonsensical argument pretending that isn't the case.

PetSmart ???

Hmmm... the Petopia across the street from us has all the catfood and dog food in the same aisle. So do all of the grocery stores.  I can't think of any place i've ever shopped where the cat food and dog food are not in the same aisles.

PetCo. and Petsmart have the entire store segregated; Half dog, half cat and other pets.
Even my walmart has a dog aisle and a separate cat aisle.
When I take my dog into Petsmart, he gets disgruntled because I won't let him look at the items on the cat aisles. I should raise a stink about the situation.

my new "super" target has one of those "ambigious" bathrooms right in the middle between the crowded mens and crowded womens room.  I always use it.  I could care less if people think I'm a dude or a very clever female wearing a beard and some muscle.   I don't have to wait and the place is always sparkling clean.  I'm all for the ambiguous potty thing.

As for clothes, any parent with mutliple children/neices/nephews already knows that clothes go from boys to girls and vice versa, pretty commonly, when kids outgrow, when you're out of shirts at the water park, when it's laundry day, etc.  not saying I'd put a boy in a pink "#Fabulous" t-shirt like I put my nieces in, but yea, a minecraft shift is pretty unisex.

Lots of whining about shit while Boehnner and the repubs in congress collude with obama to get the national debt to 20 trillion before he leaves office.  #actualshitthatmatters

There's a young female mechanic I first noticed under a hoist while having my backhoe inspected for licensing.  And I'm not telling tales when I say that she had her jumpsuit half off and tied by its sleeves around her hips, leaving only a greasy singlet to disguise this naked Venus of Urania Suprema.  Natually, I did several of my best Reg Park impersonations right there in front of the manly yellow heavy equipment parked at a 28 degree angle to her pespective.

Bupkiss.  She never looked over, not one time.  Well, not that I saw.  I had to occasionally hold the end of the tape measure for the inspection man which really threw off my posing.  Is it gender unnatural that I'd like to take her to an art exhibition and discuss what each piece emotes in her, and then bring her home to find creative uses for a socket set with her?

Aw phooey.  She doesn't even know I exist.

Yea but not so ethnic.  A sort of young blonde Geena Davis thing happening.  I almost fell out of the operator's seat.
