That's the culture, Bay. A lot of people like her are in decision making positions.

I am one of those people and we would certainly terminate her.  Reading a report or hearing testimony about bad behavior is one thing.  An internet video that shows the whole world what a bitch you are is another.  Her behavior reflects on her school, her hospital, and her profession.  I would cut her head off.

Then you're too emotional and reactionary to be a decision maker.
I'm confused, first you say A lot of people like this overly emotional and reactional nutjob are in decision making positions, and then you're telling others their too emotional and reactionary to be a decision maker because they want her fired.

Parsing the comments and changing the order makes it more difficult to give you a rational answer.

Bay is too emotional and reactionary. He feels the contract between programs and residents is one-sided and doesn't need to be honored in cases that become sensationalized.

My opinion is that they made an agreement to train her and are obligated to make reasonable attempts at remediating any shortcomings prior to ending a person's career.

She's an ass. Tons of people in have gotten multiple chances at fixing their mistakes in residency and life. It's people taking themselves too seriously who can sit in the ivory tower and judge.

Irony is some of the same people are advocates for poor, disenfranchised, learning disabled, special needs, and any other situation where offering some help or attending a charity event can let them feel smug. The second someone with social, educational parity has an issue it's "Off with their heads!", LOL! Did their compassion suddenly disappear or is a case of being full of shit? In most cases I believe "full of shit" is true and that most people are only compassionate to whatever extent it makes them feel better. The doctor is at the top of the food chain, people can only feel better if she crashes and burns.

People don't get to play judge, jury, and executioner of a career for every mistake. There are tons of physicians who have been in treatment programs, "Friends of Bob", etc... You'll also find loads of people working in hospitals who have lost licenses in other states or cannot get malpractice insurance.

Bay's an awesome guy and we've gotten along for 10+ years. I've got nothing but love for the Brother. Sometimes academics forget they live in an ivory tower. :) My sister, God Bless Her, is even worse when it comes to crap like this and thinking elite liberals are specifically charged to prevent assholes like that drunk chick from being in public service.

Random people may not, but if you sit on an accrediting board, sanctioning body, or an appellate board that is exactly what you do.  These boards are made up of faculty physicians, nurses, deans, other executives, and sometimes alumni.  One does not have to be an elite liberal or live in an ivory tower to identify this woman's behavior as totally unacceptable.  Calling me names is not helping her case.  There will be an investigation (as there should be) and she will be given ample opportunity to explain herself (as if anything could explain that behavior), but when all is said and done I predict that her fate is sealed.

As others have noted, were she black or male there is little doubt that she would have been arrested and charged at a minimum.  Heck in the current climate if she were in another demographic she might have been killed by the police!  Relatively speaking, firing her is letting her off easy.

I think the fact she is a doctor is irrelevant, people want to see her crash and burn because she is a cun+.  Nobody likes cun+y women unless they are fucking them.

Are you missing the fact that residency programs are under the aegis of the ACGME and are bound by rules for residency treatment? Its not as simple as telling someone "You're toast" after going through a cursory viewing of some video and asking someone to explain themselves.

She would have been better off driving drunk. She would have gotten another chance after some kind of program and additional supervision.

Only sad thing about this case is we won't find out what really happened.

Its both. If she worked for McDonalds and assaulted the uber driver, I believe there would be less of an outcry. Im even skeptical that it would have made the news. But the fact that she is working for a MAJOR university in America in a prestigious field, definitely helps shape peoples perception of her.

The fact that she is a nasty women, coupled with the fact that she is a doctor, portrays her in a certain light. People place her nasty, stuck up attitude in the context of her profession (doctor), and they want "blood." I don't think people are separating her nasty attitude from her being a doctor. I believe they are intertwined in people's minds.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, people on FB have even alluded to the fact of her being a "rich, stuck up doctor, with a nasty attitude." The brain automatically makes associations to things. Doctors = rich, smart, often stuck up. That is what people are doing. Its an unconscious process (part of the social unconscious).

Hospitals are extremely concerned with their public image- thus, the best thing this doctor could do would make the public feel sorry for her so that the hospital would come across ass cruel if they fired her. Maybe her mother died and she drowned her sorrows i booze.... She should make up a good story!

I disagree.  This made the news and caused an outcry because there is graphic video of the behavior that everyone can see and judge.  Recall the attack on an Uber driver a few months ago also caught on video.  The attacker was an executive at Taco Bell.  Despite his immediate and tearful apology a couple days later, he was immediately fired.  Now he is suing the driver for $5million for video taping him during the attack without his permission... alleging he has suffered loss of his job, public humiliation, emotional distress and inability to find additional employment.  You can't make this stuff up.  ::)

Yeah, but he was an EXECUTIVE at Taco Bell. Not just an a worker.  I am talking about the person behind the desk serving you food. If it was some lady who was making $7.75 an hour and did this, people would NOT be out for blood like this. Would it make the news? Sure. Would people be this relentless over someone who makes $7.75 an hour? No. They wouldn't be leaking her personal information, calling her job, making photoshops of her, etc. Clearly, the fact that she was a stuck-up doctor played into this.

My point remains the same: she would be fired based on what people saw on the video.

.

I can't believe a resident/physician wouldn't be immediately terminated after incurring a DUI--cases of nepotism notwithstanding.  There's just no excuse for driving drunk.  Its a felony, reckless, and incredibly dangerous to the driver and others on the road.  Plus, it's completely avoidable.

Edit:  and I don't mean to come off as some stiff....I love to party, and lord knows I've consumed enough drugs/alcohol for a lifetime.  But I would never ever get behind the wheel nor would I assault another person.  Just some lines that arent to be crossed

And my point remains the same: It would be a much different response, depending on her job.

"Never dig too deep" would be my advice. :)

Sadly, this particular doctor's career would have been safer by driving drunk. People see a video and grab their pitchforks, LOL! I can't imagine what the response would be to important stuff that affects patient care.

She's a jerk but the process has to followed. Especially in cases where people are in training.

With social media as it is.
I think the same would have happened.
Her info is there for all to see & so is her abusive & violent behaviour
What difference should the job or pay rate make.
None.
She had no provocation to behave the way she did.
Only she know why.

Only people who have no skill-set become Uber drivers.   Just a fad/trend that will burn itself out. I predict they will eventually be regulated out of a job.
