I disagree with this advice. Cops appreciate it.
I've been in the exact situation in Florida, on 3 separate occasions, in 3 totally different parts. 1 time the officer just straight up asked me if I carried. The other 2 times I told them I carried and they simply said "where is it?" "Is it on your person?"..all 3 times in center console.
Was no problem. They asked me to get my license. I casually said it's in my back pocket. Cool, no problem. All good.
All 3 times no problem, no ticket all 3 asked was I prior military though (which I've asked several cops does it show I served or something in there system..they all said no..so that's always been a mystery to me). They thanked me for my service and cooperation.
This cop is an anomaly to that and he's going to be punished severely.
I used to tell them I carried when I was young. now I don't bother. I hand them the permit and my license.
Shows them I've gone, literally, 19 years without losing my marbles, going to jail, etc. THey see 1997 on the permit, they realize they have about the closest thing to a perfect citizen as they're gonna get.
I've been stopped lots, and (knock on wood), I haven't gotten a ticket in 5 years... and that one was BS because construction had wrecked a double line and I couldn't see the paint there. Wasn't worth the $ to fight it, waste a day dealing with their BS to explain it.
I put the gun in a fanny on the passenger seat when stopped. Light, hands on wheel, hand them the good guy card, and just give them the "yeah, I'm balding working man just like you" look. They know i'm not stoned, not speeding, not a piece of shit, and I get a "have a nice day buddy".
