Why train at all while it is healing? As another poster wrote- you will regain your lost strength quickly when you start up again. Seems you would be delaying recovery by stressing your body for muscle growth during this period.

Just pulled both my hamstrings in a race with my nephew, got 20 m before they both popped.... 2 pints of beer before hand didn't help

for some reason I find that hilarious.  do you fall short of breath when walking for 2 mins?

Most people get operated on for a partial rupture. A complete is rare.  I had a complete rupture of the bicep. The bicep rolled up to my delt. It took me about 6 months after the operation to regain my strength back and it was a long road. I went to physical therapy but the majority was me working on it. First was regaining range of motion. Then is was curls with 1lb weights. At about 4 months I attempted a pull up and it scared me to death I would rip out the repair. Around 6 months later I was deadlifting. I think it's about 95% good. It seems it messed up my shoulder somehow too. The bicep looks a little off but nothing to complain about.  I would imagine a leg is going to be long recovery.  Don't do anything until you get the okay from the doctor. Take it really slow.
Dorian Yates had that too....his bi looked like crap but he still won O's....

Sounds logicall, but there are different schools of thinking and lotsa treatment protocols. Some say complete immobilisation for 6 weeks to heal the rupture and then start building back. Others say start passive motions (flexing) early, even the week post-operation. This will diminish scar tissue building up, keep the muscle at length and gives a little less atrophy.
A recent trial I found on Pubmed gave the same results after a year, but the earlier active group was back to strength a bit sooner. No difference in re-rupture between groups.

Speedy recovery - muscle memory will kick in to regain the lost size when your able to train.

Can't say I always like or agree with what you have to say.
Only a severe injury supersedes the crap posted on here.
Wish you well.

I've been dodging cervical spine surgery for many years but I know that eventually I will have to have it.

Wish you well in your recovery!

Yes and now have compression of the C6 nerve route and a bone spur closing in on my spinal cord. Pain through my left shoulder and down my left arm can be excruciating at times. College football did the most damage but a mountain bike crash in 02 was icing on the proverbial cake. :-\

Did this cause any atrophy, and if so where?

I have a couple of slight issues with T7-T8 in my back, and my entire left side (lat, shoulder and especially arm) are all noticeably smaller than my right. I"m right handed so I wrote it off as that at first, but as I start to put size on this is beginning to worry me. Left pec is unaffected.

You must have this examined by a good (sports)neurologist, dude. As soon aa possible.
Leave it be and you may be compromised for the rest of your life.
Invest some money if that's necessary.......don't leave this be !!!!

In 2011 when it began to really act up I had no clue because pain was all in my left arm, shoulder and scapula. I was losing strength in my left arm and don't remember if I had size loss.  After the first injection under imaging I went two years without it acting up again.  Suffice it to say it has been an ongoing issues since my two year reprieve. The only reason they have not pushed surgery is because other nerves seem to have taken over and I have no size/strength loss.

I just had another MRI in April.

Neck hernia stuff for us bodybuilders is very speciallistic matter.
Don't go to a regular neurologist/neurosurgeon because their target is just housewife-level recovery.

Mention that you are into competetive powerlifting/olympic weightlifting and they will consider your case differently. Don't mention bodybuilding, thst means shit to them....

hope this helps,

This is what happens when you are over weight and weak.
