Tell that to all the guys making anywhere from 600-900whp on stock internal n54s. There are plenty online just a quick google will do. The n54 is the new 2jz and we are only at the beginning of it's development cycle; I'm sure there will be built and stroked n54s pushing past 1000whp in the near future and even further than that after a while. One of the best motors BMW has made in a very long time.

and yes single turboing an n54 to the high 600 low 700 horsepower range would cost about that. You don't need to rip the engine apart or anything, just basic bolt on turbo kit, exhaust, upgraded intercooler, clutch kit, higher flowing fuel pump and injectors and an e85 tune. DIY and you would definitely do it for 10-12k budget. You could go further though, and add a better radiator, bigger fans, oil cooler and tranny cooler. Highly advisable if you live somewhere hot and are going to daily the car.

It does have reliability problems, I've known dozens of owners and a handful of lemons

The engine itself can hold power, not debating that, but u are suggesting a 15k used bimmer which is going to be high mileage, and then throw into mods on a car with high mileage, reliability issues,  good luck daily driving that...

Of course there are guys with 700-900 hp, it can be done but still it isn't as reliable a rb26 or a 2jz

Cheap and German don't go together

Like I said save yourself the trouble and build a civic with a k20/24 swap or an American car which will be cheaper if power and straight line is all u care

Up to me I'll build a gtr since it's awd/dct tran, them and the turbo lambos have been dominating for years

Maybe also a corvette or viper

Btw I've owned a new 335 back in 09, good car, but couldn't get rid of the 996 turbo at the time  ;D

Didn't look much like himself that day, for "some" reason.

Why are Hondas so much better than any American car?

Here's a 41 Model 87, 4WD.  Headlights are pinned for stealth (works great).

You will NEVER have a car as good as the 1959 Cadillac Coupe De Ville I owned.  Never.

I do...Skoda Octavia III 1.6 turbodiesel. Bitch.

American manufacturing is run by bottom line management with a profit at all costs mentality. Thus the worst cars on the roads (Chrysler, GM, Ford)

European, American or Japanese, cars today are a lot fatter today due to all of the safety standards.

Speaking of boost, yes it is fun and it is where you need to be to make great power, BUT...big cube N/A has its place too. My 5.7 Challenger was stroked to a 410 (6.7 liter) with Thitek heads and a big cam. Yes, I could have made more power with a blower, but there comes a point where it is too much for the street. My motor makes 493 rwhp and 534 rwtq. Great for the street and sounds vicious.

Want more power from a NA engine? Nitrous and/or an E85 conversion with increased compression.

That is great and all but what is milage on that mostrosity?

Honda's a company run by Engineers.

Honda's current CEO on the left and former CEO Takanobu Ito on the right were both Engineers.  Takanobu Ito was the chief engineer for the original NSX.

Why are European cars so gay.  Can anyone answer that for me?  ???

You would be relaxed in them if you wouldn't be so insecure? Driving excessively big vehicles often caused by fear I think

American cars have much improved on every aspect over the past 5 to 10 years.

But Hondas tend to be very reliable and don't go over the top, no excesses.

No shit.  They have taken the fun out of all cars.

Now more models and sorts of cars available than at any other time in history. But few people buy an Alfa 4C of Alpine, or mx-5 / Miata: enough light weight pure reduce to the max fun cars around

Americans don't seem very interested in fun-to-drive cars, hence all the xxxxl pick-ups and truck based poorly handling SUVs?

You know... I've learned to hate my truck. It is excessively big, not fun to drive (unless offroad), and everyone I know wants me to help them move shit on the weekends.

that was true 15-20 years ago yeah, but not anymore

Tuning issues are nonexistent nowadays, there are a multitude of shops in every decently populated area in north america that deal with forced induction tuning. Or you can learn to do it yourself. They even have self tuning ECU's for many new model cars that will auto correct fuel and ignition tables to suit driving conditions. Any joe blow can tune his own car decently now a days with the wealth of information provided by the internet.

Anyone who says lag is an issue doesn't get that that's part of the fun of a turbo car. Its all in how you want the power to be delivered. Turbos provide a violent punch in the back when you need the power, and drive normally around town when you don't need to go fast. The power potential of turbos is far more than all motor. 2.0l motors making 1200whp are a reality these days; on pump fuels.

And a supercharger on your v6 is still forced induction, like a turbo. The air is just compressed with a different device. I'm definitely a fan of blowers, especially the centrifugal ones.

Still turbo lag, computer artificially reduced on running a tiny turbo that gives out on the high end, isn't comparable to NA

speaking of US cars, this will likely be the C7 ZR1.  GM rented Laguna Seca for 3 days and didn't have any press there but the track website shows its schedule including rentals by manufacturers, so a couple of guys went and hid nearby and took pics and videos.  They were running it alongside the Z06/Z06 and Camaro 1LE ZL1 and according to them the exhaust was much louder on the camo'd vette, plus with its larger hood it must be a bigger blower with much more HP, aggressive aero too, I'm guessing this will snatch some production  car lap records once it's development is complete  8)

Who told you that nonsense?  Honda has been horrible the past decade or so.  :D

Honda is vastly superior to all American cars.

German engineering...

I have yet to read or experience a valid explanation of how this is uniquely different than American engineering when it comes to cars (and I have driven late model E63S and M4)
