Yup, He also built his own guitar in the early days of Queen. Where he got his signature sound.

Yep. Him and his dad made it out of the wood from an old fireplace hearth (long before the formation of Queen). The whammy arm was an old sewing needle.

Brian has wonderful vibrato and sound and is a remarkable compositional player.

Speaking of Glen Campbell, I bought a new release Friday. Sings for the King.

Glen was a world-class guitarist, absolutely.

Was a musician in The Wrecking Crew, the original LA session cats who performed on innumerable recordings.

Listen to Criss Oliva’s (Savatage) solo in “Ghost in the Ruins” off Streets.

Thank me later.

Yeah forgot Terry Kath. Glen Campbell didn't realize or forgot he was such an accomplished player.

I don’t think anyone in this thread who actually knows guitar would suggest otherwise. Those of us with even a mild intellect know there can never be a “best” guitarist.

Some of us presenting our favourites do so with the understanding the preferences are merely reflections of the musical attributes that most appeal to our sensibilities.

I’m a total guitar fanboy and I recognize there being virtuosity in every style available to be played on the instrument. Having said this, my list of favourites exposes my personal tastes, naturally. But goddamn are there some absolute monsters in, say, country. Or nylon acoustic approaches. Whatever.

In your want to be read as enlightened, you’ve overstepped what’s actually mostly presented in this thread.

Huge Ace Frehley fan. Huge KISS fan. Ace has some of the most recognizable leads in rock history but he is FAR from the best guitar player. No question

KISS was one of the least talented rock bands in history.  Even they admit this.

They were very entertaining with the props and makeup and they had cool songs but they were not very good musicians when it comes to playing instruments.

Wes Montgomery if you are talking Jazz.  I like George Benson, top 5 all-time.

Someone I know was invited to a party at Benson's home - I think an album release event.  He said that Benson played chord-melody style for 20 minutes straight, stuff he just doesn't often do on albums or live.
Too much money in playing smooth schlock.  Benson just might be the best jazz player of them all, and his early stuff is fantastic.
