Just recently watched it again, thought most of the acting was terrible. I can't believe some people think it's one of Coppola's best films

Oh that's disappointing - I was literally talking about this to my best bud the other day - we watched it in this kind of private school viewing, so it went down well to a room full of English toff kids being bullied to fuck by the Masters

Not sure whether to go through with the re-watch now - maybe better to leave those memories be..?

So what's the deal with the new Top Gun movie?
Is it any good? I had no problem with the original.

In fact, it has one of the best examples of a proper movie soundtrack song. I think of Top Gun every time this song gets played.

Star Wars. "Use the force" climax was a 2600 year old lazy writer's Deus ex machina plot device. Dandy robots, annoying muppets, unrelatable waif Mark Hamill, and neurotic, depressive Carrie Fisher, nepotistically robbing more deserving girls of acting roles. They all get medals at the end, it's like sitting though the "Oscars".

Watch Tears Of The Sun. It's a great movie.

Sometimes it depends when you watch the movie.

If you watched season 1 Prison break which was an excellent prison drama, some of Oz and then later watched Shawshank Redemption, you might be underwhelmed.

But if Shawshank Redemption was the first Prison drama you watched then you'd be more inclined to find it compelling.

I watched Shawshank first and thought it was great, but I know I wouldn't enjoy it as much now. Prison Break S1 has ruined Shawshank for me by being fucking amazing.

Speaking of cringey movies that don’t stand the test of time, I was watching the first 30 minutes of Back to the Future 2 the other day. The futuristic scenes in that movie are extremely lame and were way off plus they had to replace Marty’s girlfriend and went with an uglier downgrade. The movie gets better as it goes, but the first quarter of it was pretty bad. The first one is still great although a couple of Getbiggers who shall remain nameless recently ruined the entire Johnny B. Goode scene for me (due to pissy pants Chuck Berry’s fart videos)

I agree, a lot of movies that you thought were great just don`t hold up well over time, but in the case of Shawshank if I hadn`t seen it in a long time I can still enjoy it.

It will have it's time again, as you said it's a classic.

Like Escape from Alcatraz is over 40 years old now and has aged horribly, but it's got to the stage where that's part of the charm now. Shawshank will get there too.
