Got 545 this week.    Goal is 600 at body weight of 190.

He pulls 400 on a hex-bar with the high handles and thinks it equates to a 500 conventional deadlift, he is beyond help at this point.

I pulled 420 no sleeves no belt no wrist wraps and it was the most weight the hex bar would hold and it was easy

Good for you Like I said it’s a good lift. It shows everything is working together and you don’t have any injuries. Honestly my lower back is jacked after every squat and deadlift session but whatever I still do them. 

You know I did get a trap bar and now it is inside. I will be using it a lot in the coming decades. However pulling a heavy deadlift is not my primary goal. I do plan to get more into deadlifts but not going to be able to do them for a while post surgery. 

Honestly going too heavy to the point your form looks like MattC is not advise able if you ask me I saw that shit and said fuck it he can have the deadlift record no desire to try and fold my back. 

Maybe a single at 80% for shuts and giggles but don’t think I ever want to try and max that lift sets of 5-10 for me is plenty

Hell even squatting I am doing  20 reps a set these days no need to take those movements super heavy too much can go wrong not needed for growth. Higher reps will work fine for squats and deadlifts

Risk vs Reward Counselor I am sure your firm is great but a lot of people theiir form breaks down when they start getting really heavy which makes it get too risky for my blood. Not chasing deadlift maxes the only guy I saw do that Matt has some kind of titanium disc or something but I already have degenerative disc issues whiplash etc etc 420 felt plenty heavy to me. I didn’t need to pull more I can do reps instead. I probably could have gotten about 3 reos with that but why? I don’t think I need that much weight in my bones to stimulate my muscles and my back does not want to bend the way Matt’s back bent

And what is the reward if you are still 190lbs when you get there have you made gains? Are you stronger when you pull 600lbs or just redlining harder and closer to injury? Train to get bigger to add muscle and yes to get stronger but the muscle can only get so strong if you are not increasing its size and it is already trained and strong and you keep adding weight are you just trying to get injured? I mean something has to give eventually and I don’t want it to be me so yeah I want to add body weight and keep the iron moderate  make sure I have more muscle before trying to move more weight. Weight moves weight by all means go for 600 but eat add a little body weight so it feels like 545. Are you a competitor power lifter why do people try to max out while counting calories eat

If you start to hitch,simply drop the bar,it`s gonna` happen in training at times if going for a max attempt is your goal........max deads aren`t for everyone.....I have 3 bulging discs and arthritis in my lower back and neck, so I would just go moderate weight highish reps.

Can we all just admit this has potential? Movers just threw it in yesterday but all that space is gym space. Dumbbell Racks fit great on far wall. Ceilings are high natural light from windows should be real nice. But also just going to use commercial gym for a bit as will need the pool and cable machines for Rehab anyway.

Well I don’t have one right now. I would think  I will be referred to one after surgery but the commercial gym has a heated pool and machines and cables that I  don’t have that will be needed for recovery.

The heated pool will help a lot.
