Dorian had some of the best calves ever.
Ronnie did have everything including calves;
they just wern't close to Doz's level.
I bet if any of us saw Ronnie in his prime and saw his
calves in person would be blown away by there size.

Gotta give credit where it's due.
In that pre 93 O video Yates calves are just sick.
I don't think they were ever that big again though.
Caught a good screencap off youtube and it's unreal.
A few other great calves by Lee Labrada and Chris Dickerson too.

why do you think it is not possible to be fuller AND harder?

It is possble, but Ronnie was only fuller and not harder in 1999.

Quote, Joe Weider:

"Many experts, including reigning Mr.Olympia, Jay Cutler, believe that at his best Ronnie has the greatest physique of all times. When looking at pictures of Ronnie from the 1998 Mr.Olympia, I find it hard to argue with that."

You got this quote from me, so why are you posting it?

according to you.

not according to Lonnie Teper (ironman), Jonny Fitness (musclemag), MD, and Ronnie Coleman.

and not according to any visual evidence.

hope this helps.

So Peter McGough, Julian Schmidt, Jim Rockell and Ronnie himself don't count? Fuzzy logic that makes you give more credit to some people's opinions, but not to other's. And in my opinion McGough knows more than the other experts you've mentioned - number of years as a bodybuilding journalist and the fact that he saw Arnold, Zane and other legends makes him more of an expert in my opinion.

see, now you are finally learning what ND could never understand:

there are expert opinions on both sides of the topic by people who were actually at the contest.

the whole point is that the quotes game doesn't work.

visuals are what you have to look to.

and visuals show 99 being both bigger, fuller AND a bit better conditioned.

its amazing how bad dorian's proportions were in some poses.

eg. the side chest: monster calves, monster quads/hams, small arms, small chest..

its like his upper body belonged to someone 50 pounds lighter..

 :-\

then again, he was super overrated, so this comes as no surprise.. :-*

99 Ronnie was off the chain... The gut didn't start in until around 2003 I think.

But the relative merit of quotes from different people is not the same. Most of the experts you've mentioned were learning the ABC when McGough was already a bodybuilding journalist and was seeing Arnold, Zane and Oliva up close. The guy has almost 40 years of bodybuilding expertise, so it is almost insulting to say that his opinion is not more erudite than that of the aforementioned experts. I thought you'd have more consuderation for McGough's assesment, considering that he has stated that Ronnie's 2001 ASC physique was the best he's ever seen onstage.

you seem to forget that all visual evidence from the contest shows that the "other" experts are correct.

they were there.

what they saw and stated is verified.

McGough's opinion isn't. the visuals do NOT show that Ronnie was noticably softer in 99 than in 98.

if any thing, he was sharper in many areas.

key difference you are overlooking.

an opinion is worthless no matter who says it if it is not supported and verified.

eg. do you agree that the 269 pound pre contest dorian was 'harder than Ronnie ever was"?

LOL I sure hope not.

McGough said that too:

see for yourself LOL

 ::)

the point is that not everything that Peter says is always true.

some of it is verified - this stuff is true  - it is supported and has corroborating evidence.

some is not - eg. his silly comment about the not even in contest shape dorian LOL

damn, Ronnie is just destroying Dorian in those comparisons. Dorian may be heavier but you would never be able to tell just by looking at them.
