Speaking of the late 80s early 90s, how's come Franco Santellorini (sp?) never went much further? IMO, the dude had an awesome physique, rather similar to Gary's actually. BTW, Gary's and Franco's physiques were my favs during that timeframe (late 80s to early 90s)

There`s a long story associated with this Bob............Jeff told me and others personally that Joe Weider wanted Jeff to "requalify" by doing the NPC version (NPC Nats) of the then called Mr. America and Mr. Universe (IFBB Mr. Univers) titles which Jeff won in the AAU and with NABBA respectively.

Jeff felt that this was a step down and that he didn`t need to prove himself as he was already established as a top up and coming bodybuilder............. ........and he had already won these two titles,albeit in two rival organizations,so Mr. Weider never took him into the IFBB fold.

I`m not sure if Jeff regrets this move these days but he`s doing very well in life.

I trained in the same two gyms as Jeff since he was a teenager............one of the nicest people you could ever meet.

Regardless of the  hypothetic outcome,both King and Gary are two bodybuilding legends in my eyes.

There was no long storymy friend...with all due respect.  if course his accomplishments weren't recognized...he competed against nobody in a different federation.  if he was as good as he thought he was, he would have had no issue whatsoever in competing against the NPC's best...only in his eyes would it have been a " step backwards" ...in reality...it would have been a huge step forward to hAve to face the REAL best amateurs in the world....and he obviously didn't want to test the waters...much like Vic Richards.

I don't know Jeff, and certainly have no issue with him personally...just spelling it out as someone who was there....on the stage trying to EARN the right to compete as an IFBB Pro.

In comparison to me, he is most definitely a mental eunuch.  Look, a legend is not exactly what I would desire to be called.  Why? Because a "legend" is most often equated with something unverified, or even mythical and by the latter I most assuredly do not mean Sergio Oliva.

Strydom doesn't as you state, "train to stay huge", he takes drugs to stay huge.  His physique is a farce, a facade, a ruse, a canard, a... Well you get the idea.  His physique is not his own.  It comes from a pharmacy.  That is a big deal worth belittling. 

Like I so poetically stated, he and his drug induced body and "glory" (hole) days will have all the remembrance of a library (NOT "libary") card from the ghetto.  Useless and forgotten.
