Plenty of research that cardio is good for your heart. Heart attacks are the number one killer of man. Doctor Cooper alone has studied this for over 50 years and has the stats. The first thing they do after heart surgery for recovery is to put you on a treadmill. True, doing an excess of cardio doesn't extend life. There is a bell graph that shows these guys doing ten miles a day isn't extending life. You have to be careful with years of life and connecting it to a lifestyle because so many other factors play into it.

It seems those that are anti cardio exercise are those who are out of shape and won't admit it. They don't want to put in the effort to do cardio. If you go to a cardiologist  for a check up they will put you on a treadmill to do their EKG. If they won't they believe it's too risky because you're out of shape.

If heart attacks are the number one killer of man how will cardio put the odds in your favor?

1. Lowers subcutaneous body fat.
2. Lowers visceral body fat that leads to metabolic diseases.
3. Lowers blood pressure
4. Increases red blood cells
5. Lowers triglycerides (blood fat)
6. Lowers resting pulse rate that indicate the heart muscles strength. Many endurance athletes have a resting pulse rate under 50
7. Increases capillaries of the heart muscle.
8. Lowers blood sugar
9. I will add more at a later date. Late for work.

I could go on but it will never convince anyone that doesn't have the fortitude to put in the work and uses excuses to justify their laziness.  In the end the most important life expectancy predictor is genetic. I for one would rather have a shorter life and be in shape and active than what I see all the time.   A guy that couldn't run around the block and gets winded walking.  I can still out sprint many high school kids so I'm available for a two hand touch game, lol.

Is this guy even a doctor? They typically put a 24/48 hour monitor on you to wear at home that records BP readings throughout the day and night before diagnosing high BP and giving medication. Most BP checks done in the doctors office are just a loose guide.

Haven't watched the video yet, but my 2 cents (that I've almost certainly posted here before) is that a few years back I bought a pressure cuff - XL for bicep, natch ;) - and immediately started shidding my pants at the readings.  Unless I sat calmly and did some breathing stuff I was right up that 140/90 level - sometimes over.  Same thing at the medical practice.  They suggested my cuff was shite (almost certainly) and I had "White Coat Syndrome" which I took to mean I was being a pussy LOL

Anyway, long story short I spent 24 hours with one of those sling-type monitors and guess what? I was fine...

TL/DR
Don't use a cheap monitor at home

Yes this is actually a well-known and fairly common thing, lots of people have high BP but only at the doctor's office.

Thanks, you just agreed with me.

If you enjoy doing lots of cardio by all means do it.  Do you enjoy running or is it strictly something you do for health reasons?  You enjoy it, right?

The lifestyle benefits you listed are certainly legit.

However, it won't extend your life by any significant amount, if any.

One of the reasons you gave for doing cardio is you'd rather die younger than be in worse physical shape.  That's the same thing steroid users give for using the drugs...they'd rather look great and die younger than live long and look normal.

By the way, I do cardio also.  I ride my bike 4-6 days a week for enjoyment.  I sprint on it too.  Really gets the blood moving.  Gets me outside breathing polluted air.

I think the guy in the video is right about a lot of things. It is better to have a resting, relaxed BP reading. (I'm not sure why they have them at some gyms for people to check after they just did a workout - it will be too high) Need to have a properly sized cuff, need to have multiple readings not looking at just one isolated reading etc.

Some people are just more pressurized.

It’s the way she goes.

Don’t smoke, drink, and get some exercise.

Do your best, leave the rest, angels do no more.

Even doing cardio does not really make a difference in lifespan.

There is no scientific backup.

Doing lots of cardio can even shorten your life.

Intense exercise is not a life extender.  It's the opposite since it causes inflammation and stress.

If you enjoy it do it but not for life extension.

A very low heart rate is not an indication of a future long life.  It indicates perhaps stamina/endurance.

Walking seems best.  Low impact.  Low stress.

Avoid the major killers, cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, dementia, diabetes, accidents, etc. and you'll likely live to an old age.

My grandfather died with Alzheimer’s at 87 and those other conditions take people late in life often too.

I look like him more than any of my 25 cousins so I’m guessing I’m in for it eventually too.

When I took roids back in the day they could elevate my BP and I noticed weight gain gives an increase for me too. I’ve seen my BP as high as 140’s at one time on a cycle and actually anything over 130 gave me a slight anxious feeling I didn’t like.

My range now is in the 115 to 125 area over somewhere in the 70’s for diastolic. I have no family history with heart issues, but it seems like kidney issues are a reason to watch your BP.

I have an Omron brand BP monitor that I like, but since getting quite lean I don’t track my BP as much as it’s usually in optimal range.

It should go without saying, but my heart rate is normal too. I’m not a drug addict like Bhank so I don’t have that problem.

Sounds good.

Avoiding an early death is one key to living long.  ;)

The increase in human life expectancy is overwhelmingly due to the great reduction in childhood mortality (because of vaccines mainly).

50% of woman used to die from childbirth back in the mid 1800s.  Post-birth infection took most of them.

Live long and prosper!

That is amazing especially for that weight. Probably too low on the bottom number. Do you ever feel like passing out when you stand up fast?

I complained to doctors for many years in my 30s about high blood pressure. They always refused to give medication.

Even when insanely fit i had hypertension and that was with a HR around 47.

When I turned 40 I rocked back to the local medical centre and saw a new doctor who had just started. I told her about a decade of being refused BP meds so she tested me and My blood pressure was 185/130 lol.

She freaked out, gave me BP script straight away.
