Title: I want to move to Texas badly.
Post by: Alex23 on November 13, 2013, 08:31:18 PM
Just flew back from DFW today. Spent two days in downtown Dallas for the second time in a month and just loved it. Stayed at the Omni Hotel downtown, 220$ a night gets you a 4 stars level room you would pay twice for anywhere else.

People are nice, all gals call you honey, sugar pie and/or sweetheart. I just love it there. Everything is just bigger and better. I heard in the past that Dallas-Fort Worth was dirty and ugly, I don't get it, quite the opposite. There's also an optimism and desire to be good people that intangibly floats in the air.

I actually had trouble with my rental, so pulled over on the express way. took about 5 minutes for someone to pull behind me to see if need help. I said I was on the phone with Hertz and they're sending someone. "Well, wanna beer while we wait" pull a Rubbermaid cooler, just because. Here in Cali, it's most likely you get hit by a  mattress flying off a S10 Mexican pickup truck.

Just saying...

More power to yuh, Pardner.

I like Texas, too.  Once I was in Dallas at one of those faux elegant mainstream hotels you appear to savor.

I went to the bar for a nightcap. I motioned to the bartender: "One cognac, please, Remy VSOP if you have it."

"What's cone yak?" came the response.

I grant you that girls call you sugar (sometimes cause they find you repulsive), that there's a goodly supply of both guns and bimbos, and you certainly are not going to get winded going up inclines - there aren't any.

Flatland.  In more ways than one.  Enjoy.

My #.1 state in the good old U.S.A.,visiting the Alamo in San Antonio (1999) was realization of a childhood dream.
Hated those modern buildings around this legendary mission.
Would be great to see remake of John Wayne's "Alamo" ,with today's technology  :D.
Texas easily wins.

You don't need a licence to own a gun , only if you want to carry it concealed in public areas..... no permit no nothing .... just paper work and FED background check and bam less then 5 minutes a shotgun, AR15, or dirty Harry's pistol is yours

Believed or not, I have to complete 8 pages long gun application form  :P, takes 2 weeks or so.
Must have 2 metal storage cabinets, 1 for a rifle & another 4 ammo  >:( , around $ 350 each.
Cops visit is expected too, to check storage facilities.
Not too hard to get illegal staff, but  ::)

California isn't a city, but it does have plenty of rural towns and cities.  It also has some of the best air quality numbers in the country.

Just kinda strange to hate California because one hates the Los Angeles area.

Go to Dallas in mid July and see how much you love it.  Fucking sweating your balls off.  I do love the no state tax thing.  Makes me laugh when I walk into fast food joints and they have a NO GUNS ALLOWED sign.

Move to Westlake, big houses for a fraction of the cost of a Cali home.

Lived in Texas for time in my youth.  Fathers side are all texans. A large segment of my family still lives there.  I enjoy visiting Texas but I've become to much of a northerner for Texans.  Unless you were born and raised in Texas, you'll never be a Texan.

If you can't adapt to heat dont' move to Texas, just visit.   Texas has two seasons:  summer and less summer

For example, this morning it was 31 degress outside.  Tomorrow afternoon it will be 83 degrees outside.

A lot of folks I work with have come from the northern states or at least lived there for an extended period.

All say the same things:

"How do y'all handle the heat here?!"
"I've never had allergies until I lived here!"

On the other hand it is beautiful, clear weather here a lot....there is some upside LOL!!  But when it's hot, it's "walk outside and all the oxygen is sucked out of your lungs" hot.   Fortunately that degree of heat only lasts for 5 months.  The other months are easier heat and you just wish your life would expire every other day.  Other than that it's beautiful!!

Good, conservative old school state.  Great place to escape liberal scum.

I pretty much had allergies the full toe weeks that I was in Dallas. As soon as I went to Cali my allergies went away and I could breath properly again. The heat was similar to Aussie so that didn't bother me. I thought it was dryer though.

Totally common LOL!!  My former boss left the state cause he couldn't handle the allergies.   He was originally from Minnesota, but took a job in CA to get away from the Texas heat and allergies LOL!!  Poor dude always felt like garbage and was always at the doc flushin his nasal passages.   Had no choice but to split.

You really tried ordering that here? Damn dude, did you also try ordering spinning hubcaps for your mid 80's Cadillac and a bud light lime while you were at it ? Lol

Bench

Yeah I really did.  It was, after all, an "upscale" hotel.   And ordering cognac at a Grand Hyatt usually isn't considered gauche.  Except in Texas.  Whatta place.  25% of all kids live in poverty (higher than anywhere else in the US), abysmal literacy rate, record drunk driving fatalities, most executions.  Let's stop there.

Yea, but taxes are low, so reap the whirlwind: Chow down at McDonalds with confidence:  Your grown kid is at the counter preparing your order.  Education wasn't good enough to do more, and perish the thought of leaving The Great State of Texas.

See,  the future of Texas' kids is much less important than "keepin that cost o' livin down." To Texans, that is, or at least to most of them.

What an impeccable place.  Yes, indeed, bag the Remy Martin in Texas.  Beer n' Whisky - an' keep them prices low, or else.

I think I'll tough it out in California.  It's hard, I know, but not everyone can fit into Perry's Paradise.

The children's poverty rate in based on stats that include the insane amount of Mexican kids that live in Texas and attend the schools.  Same thing with the illiteracy rate.  I would suspect a Nancy Pelosi and Jerry Brown loving liberal to put down this great state.

You can thank Governor Perry for that problem.  He won't fix it because the Texas shitkickers who tell him what to do like it fine the way it is - an uneducated workforce that they can pay peanuts to and race China to the bottom in garnering low-wage manufacturing business.

What a great state!!!

And I heartily dislike Nancy Pelosi.  But, after forty years, I can't say that I have yet figured out Jerry Brown.

Enjoy.

LOL @ "faux elegant" I bet you're quite the baller too. Sounds like the bartender caught up with your phoniness and simply was trying to be polite.

Are you the kinda of "guy" with a fake British "accent" who corrects people when asking "I want chauck, not cack, if you dearly please to do so?"

LOl oh brother this place will never stop to amaze me.

LOL @ "faux elegant" I bet you're quite the baller too. Sounds like the bartender caught up with your phoniness and simply was trying to be polite.

And polite he was.  Once he learned what cognac was, he had one for me the very next day.  He had worked there about a year, and had never heard of it.  35 years old.  These things happen.  In Texas.  But everyone is polite.

No.  Nor do I understand what your last sentence means.

That could be good or bad.

Everything depends on you, Baller.  Say and do the right thing and ye shall be free.  Except in Texas.

TeX mex is Mexican food according to the USA real Mexican food is corn tortillas and cactus and cheap parts of the animal mainly goat , but you have money its plenty of beef . When I was working down there , some clients for TransCanada were discussing they couldn't wait to eat some real Mexican food , so I put my drink down and leaned to them and said y'all ain't getting any enchiladas down here and they looked at me puzzled as I lifted up my drink I raised a brow right at them and carried on ..

"Authentic" can be construed as what the everyday Joe eats, but it also includes, say, chicken mole at Escenria's in Mexico City.  That's authentic Mexican food, too.  And it's not Tex-Mex, which is swill.

Apparently, it is the biggest base in the U.S. I don't think you have to "do" something to get stationed there. He's had three completed deployments, two to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. He was sent on a forth, but after about a month, the tour ended for the hole brigade. Maybe it's were you go after you had the good fortune to be stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii for almost 5 years like he was.

I'm in MN, so trust me I'm used to the freezing cold.  Came to Texas partly to escape the cold, only to find out that earlier in the week Houston was just as warm as Minneapolis!   :o

PS- I went to "Twin Peaks" for the first time.  Some fine hos there, better than a lot of Hooters I've been to.

Plus, I notice that Longhorns seems to be religion there, am I wrong?  There was way more Longhorns stuff on on the sports bar TVs than the UFC event last weekend.
depends on where you are, there are plenty of aggies running around too ::)

The only other state I'd consider living in besides Florida is the great state of Texas. I prefer the Austin area. My former boss has lived all over the US and always talked positive about Texas. He eventually moved back.

My daughter and her husband would strongly agree with you on this. They can't wait to get the heck out of there. Even the rainy Pacific Northwest is a huge improvement, although they did like living in Hawaii a lot.

I loved Hawaii and the weather is heaven on earth.  My nephew and his wife are stationed there.

I would like to know this also.

I forgot all the specifics, but the central texas area has all the necessary factors and conditions to make it a kind of 'perfect storm'  for airborne allergies. Lots of our tree species offload tons of pollens. I suffer from extremely bad allergies here, as do many others, yet some are totally unaffected. A lot of people who come from other places find that as soon as they get here they start sneezing like crazy. West texas is desert so there the allergies are not bad. But the hill country, wooded areas are unfortunately a nightmare for those prone to suffering allergies.

Bill Pearl liked Oregon better.

I've lived in both Seattle and Portland area and I can tell you I liked living in Vancouver, WA. All the tax perks but shop in Oregon. Portland is like Seattle except less black people but more hippies and half the rain fall. Great for outdoor people even motorcycle riders. Great track there and you got Mt Hood, the coast and Mt St Helens...all great rides

Lived in Hawaii and would NEVER move there. Expensive and racist as hell there.

If you are white or black you are not welcomed there. Lived there for 4 years trust me even the ones that are nice to your face will talk shit about you the minute you walk away.

Most all brown skin are left alone. Though the "true" Hawaiians hate everyone on their land, marrying their women, taking their jobs etc...

Back in the day when CalvinH was a young lad he use to go to Hawaii for 3 weeks to a month every year...I had long curly hair {HIP :'(} and after a couple of weeks in the sun I'd get so tan and combine that with the hair I looked native.

...big smiles from the natives until I told them I was a mainlander..then it was like "Yeah,ok,whatever ::)" ;D

Last time I was in hawaii few years ago, I was walking to a public beach in Waimanalo (sp?)and on a fence right by the passage to the beach was painted in huge letters 'LOCALS ONLY! NO TOURISTS'...apparently the natives don't much care for all the foreigners there lol. Got that vibe the whole time we were there

Have you ever banged a full figure Hawaiian native chick? I hear their outer lips smell like coconut. That's much better than "Newmom's" wrinkled pill popping, "extra skin" dumb ass...
