I believe the contention that Lee received his pro card without technically qualifying is true.

This might also be true for federov.  Certainly I don't recall him having the credentials when he did the russia pro and some people questioning it.

Irregardless of credentials there will be rule bending

 IFBB is a long story and i am not kind of a person who love Bit--g around when i leave some thing behind but i didnt get what i want to get from IFBB and others got!!!
regarding the PRO CARD, very simple (MUSTAFA HASSANIN+MOHD ANOUTI+GUNTER) they got the pro card given but not earning it! i am not sure about the last guy but Mustafa told me personally when i met him ( COME ON SAMI U SHOULD BE A PRO) just write a latter and ask Ur federation to contact the main IFBB..!! and he said thats what i did, the same with ANOUTI and i am not against these guys, they are my friends and i am happy to see them having the pro card BUT just to clear some points for the people who said YOU HAVE TO EARN IT about Gunter i wish some one refresh my memory and tell me how did he earned it coz i was mixed up with him and some one els, if he really earned it then HE didnt earn taking part in his first MR.O which he was pushed and didnt qualify for it by any show!! so forgive me if i am mistaken about Gunter

Thing is, you can't allow every national federation to grant a pro card for the overall winner each year around the world.

The quality isn't deep enough.

In Russia, the talent pool seems to be growing, and they will probably get to grant at least one pro card every year. But in smaller (bodybuilding-wise) countries like Australia, the Scandinavian countries, Italy, Spain, et al, you can't hand out pro cards every year.

IMO, many of these countries should be allowed to hand out one pro card, and the NPC Nationals should only have two cards to give out.

It would balance the competition somewhat.

Because today, there are a lot of shitty US third-tier pros allowed to win their pro cards, guys like Kamali.

If you look at the national level in the Mediterranean area, in Germany, in South East Asia, there are tons of BB's that are more deserving of pro cards than Kamali.

I think it's a problem of too many pro cards being given out in the US, more than anything.

Look at Silvio Samuel and Dennis Wolf - they kicked ass in their first outings as Pro BB's.

I'm sure Marco Chacon will do too, unless he will be overlooked.

As bob's commented in other threads, the IFBB doesn't just hand out pro cards to anyone who faxes in their credentials.

Sami is a quality bodybuilder and his physique speaks for itself. The question remains how many "pro" shows will he be able to make money at, how many guest posings will he get and who will sponsor a guy who competes yet gets no exposure in any of the magazines?

That's my point of it being a "waste".

question for ya lift.  What did Brian Buchanan do to get pro status?  Ed Kawak?  Chris Clairemont?  For that matter what did Vic Richards do to get his card.  Don't say they don't give gifts cause they have for years.  They do what they want.  Why didn't Jeff King get a card if the above mentioned guys did?  Cause the IFBB didn't want him to, no other reason.  There are more examples I could go through..the IFBB does what it wants, when it wants and helps who it wants.

Exactly; makes a sham of the US Pros who had to qualify the legit way at the USAs/Natinals/North America.

Do remember that the US guys have alot of opportunity to win a card, multiple times per year.

For many in the world they have only the Worlds to win a card, which Americans are also eligible to win as well.

Sami, you look incredible.  Very nice classical taper, lines, and muscularity. 

I fear that in the IFBB, Sami may not be rewarded well for the excellent physique he has already and would be encouraged to put on a good bit more mass which may ruin his lines and fantastic shape.  Sure, adding a few more lbs could add to his physique but too much is not good, which happens to many trying to chase the mass monsters, that are often rewarded in the IFBB these days. 

It is encouraging that Phil Heath has done well so far in the IFBB...another athlete w/ unbelievable shape and structure.

Correct, Sami has not stood next to the IFBB pros, who are the best in the land...but in the last 10 yrs we have seen the IFBB judges reward bigger and not always better physiques, especially at the larger shows.  Fantastic BBers like David Henry, Richard Jones, Jaroslav, and Ronnie Rockel are placed lower at the big shows.  I cannot be sure of the validity of my opinion but I think there is enough historical judging evidence to support it as a reasonable possibility.  As I said, we may be on the verge of some change w/ Ronnie retiring soon and guys like Heath winning earlier in the year.  I hope so.

Whether its the IFBB, PDI or all (the athletes and fans are important to me not so much the organization)...many of us would like to see more classical physiques being rewarded.  Lots of us don't like the distended guts, blurring of clean muscle separation, excessive supps needed to maintain the mass the judges are looking for and the increased health issues for the athletes.  I'd be happy to respectfully debate that statement as I am not only a decent competitor but also med. professional.

there's others aside from kawak, clairemont etc.  The IFBB has continually done things to suite thier own benefit which is not excactly wrong.  What is wrong is changing the standard to only apply at certain times.  Bertil Fox, Sergio and Tony Pearson did the Mr. Olympus back in the late 70's...what kinda fine did they ahve to pay to compete in the IFBB again?  Compare that to the fines the WBF guys had to pay.  The precedent was already set that they should not have had to pay a dime but because they pissed of Joe and Ben they payed out the ass to compete again.
