  • Train Each bodypart every 5-7 days, no more, but make sure you tax it enough to be sore for at least 2days
  • Keep weights workouts under an hour
  • Do 20 mins cardio sessions every 3 days no matter if "bulking" or "cutting", this will "kick" your metabolism into gear and help food intake
  • Stretch, stretch, stretch... AFTER you train a "muscle" group.
  • Train early in the day if possible; you'll get used to it.
  • Allways listen to music and look pissed while training, this keeps the schmoes away. If someone 'aks' you if you're "using this" (even thought you're standing 50' away from it), ignore it and turn your back
  • Fuck free weights, If a machine provides the same tension, don't waste your time loading a fucking bar just to be a purist; preacher curl machine is the best example.
  • Don't wear work boots. 1999-2001 is behind us now.
  • Plastic "gallons" of water aren't necessary as you never drink a whole while training anyway and the next time you use it the water is tainted. Also makes you look like a tool.
  • Don't wear Jeans especially when doing legs. Again, a Tool move.
  • Don't spend too much time on Muscle boards, it affects your judgment and perception
  • Stay in school.
  • Don't do drugs.
  • Discuss.

Good list, but if you think i'm gonna throw away my construction boots you can kiss my arse... ;D

That's good to know, I've been wasting my time with free weights all these years and I could have just been moving a pin up and down a stack. :(

Composite asides, cables, machines can provide the same tension. Prove otherwise and I expect a pic of your "physique" to back it up...

Shut your mouth. People are allowed to disagree on issues.

I think free weights should be the base of the workouts, and machine cable workouts should be used to supplement the free weight movements afterwards.

You are candizzle, no?

The stress and range of contraction from free weights is far greater most of the time. Free weights also build more strength.

Yip Yip.  100 pounds is a 100 pounds, regardless if it is a round weight or a square plate. your body doesn't know the difference
Some machines work from leverage points so you can't exactly say 100 lbs is 100lbs[/list]

You are candizzle, no?

The stress and range of contraction from free weights is far greater most of the time. Free weights also build more strength.

Contraction is contraction. Candy is right.  Range of motion is overrated too IMO. Take a leg press for example. most of the ones I've used shift the workload to your ass and hips if if are "super hardcore" and go down as far as you can. Once I feel the emphasis shift from my quads to my hips...it's time to go back up. I don't want a big giant ass like a middle linebacker from Ohio State.

No... but when you put enough weight on it for it to feel like the 100 lbs of free weight, your body is doing the same amount of work.

100lbs of "tension" is 100 lbs of "tension".

Physics is physics.

i can agree with the tension bit but I wouldn't always say your body is doing the same amount of work.. a miltary press on a machine vs using the same weights with dumbells is going to be a bit easier because of the stabalizing factor.  Now I don't condone stability ball work, I think it's the queerist thing since knee high socks and daisy dukes.  Same with doing dumbell shoulder presses standing vs sitting.  Standing is alot harder with the same weight.

There are many freemotion type machines that require you to use your stabilizers and they are machines...

Todays machines are easily as stressful to the human body as free weights... This is not the days of the "Universal Gym".

I've used one of those free motion smith machines before.. it was an awesome machine I wish my gym had one.  It was harder than a regular smith but it still was signifacantly easier than just using an olympic bar with the same weight.

Title: Re: Alex23's "Bodybuilding" "Success" guide
Post by: Soundness on January 07, 2009, 07:54:03 PM
  • Don't spend too much time on Muscle boards, it affects your judgment and perception.
  • Stay in school.
  • Don't do drugs.
  • Discuss.

Excellent advice all around.

IMO juice is for poeple who are willing to risk their health to look better/get stronger....i would enjoy both but its not worth giving up my health for

The only thing that is suspect is how defensive you are about it.

I believe you that you're not on drugs, and that's a good resume you've got there, but why so defensive?

Because my whole life...even in middle school when i wrestled lol people said man that guy is too strong for his age he must be on steroids, at first you take it as a compliment then after a while you start to get upset that people attribute the success that took you years to achieve...to drugs, other than school bodybuidling, strongman, mma, highlandgames are my life and when people cheapen it by saying im on roids i get defensive but i guess its just the interent heh dont really matter what people say, still it would get to anyone i think after a while

IMO you are not a bodybuilder unless you have at least been on stage once, the same way playing football in the backyard with your buddies doesnt make you a football player, lifting weights in your garage and posting your pics on the net doesnt make you a bodybuilider....youve either been on stage and competed or your a tourist of the sport...nothing wrong with either but i just cant handle someone who so arrogantly gives advice who is speaking from a grand total of zero experience...
Some of us just like to lift and don't really concern ourselves with looking good for other men while shaved down in a thong, oiled up and posing for old schmoes to judge our glutes.

  • Don't spend too much time on Muscle boards, it affects your judgment and perception.
  • Stay in school.
  • Don't do drugs.
  • Discuss.

don't forget to say your prayers and take your vitamins.

 You haven't lived until:

- You've starved for a few months eating boiled chicken breasts and broccoli and then spent four hours picking your thong for your big night

- You got your mom/girl (who dumps you before the show or straight after )/life partner ,David, to oil your shaved body and rub tan into your cracks and crevices.

- Expressed incredulity that the event organizers expect you to change in the bathroom of the high school the show is being performed in.

- You hit the poses as a few family members clap and middle aged guys cam you.

- You can't believe the other guy got the plastic trophy - that falls off its cheap stand the minute the glue starts melting - and not you.

- You go on internet sites afterwards and post the pictures of you in speedos, talking all humble at first but gradually starting to diss the guy(s) who beat you more and more viciously.

contraction = contraction

No , not when "mass" is being built..the exercises you get the best peak contraction on will not provide the best growth on the target muscle.

This is kindigarten stuff.

Example. EMG says con curls give a better peak contraction than straight bar curls..

Con curls will not build size on your bi like Bar curls.

Take two skinny guys with most things being equal..

have one perform Cable cross overs the other performing flat bench press either with a bar or DB .after 3 months who will have more mass on there chest?

Sure as hell wont be the guy contracting with cables.

Im all for changing things around and keeping it fresh..

But for building mass ,compounds cannot be beat for the simple fact they target the belly of the muscle which is where all the mass is.

As for machines , Again for an advanced athlete/trainer they are good to chuck in to mix it up and keep it fresh along with your basic compounds but if you drop your compounds say goodbye to building anymore size.

hahahhaa, i love these jackasses who try to make it sound like their massive 225 pound free weight flat benches are going to "build more mass" than pressing 5 plates per side of the Hammer incline just because it's "free weights". ::)
If they are moving 5 plates a side on hammer machine You would expect them to be moving more than two plates on the bench..

All things being equal then you would expect there bench to be up round 150kg -180kg ..if that was the case Id take the benches mass over your buddy on the hammer machine  :D

This is for 5 plus reps to , not singles.

I like the hammer gear and chuck it in to add variety but nothing beats bread and butter stuff Big Dave , Im surprised you of all people think otherwise  ???

But for building mass ,compounds cannot be beat for the simple fact they target the belly of the muscle which is where all the mass is.

As for machines , Again for an advanced athlete/trainer they are good to chuck in to mix it up and keep it fresh along with your basic compounds but if you drop your compounds say goodbye to building anymore size.

i agree, some people in this thread are waaaay off if they think 100lbs on a cable machine is the same as 100lbs of raw iron.

the levers automatically make the weight easier to lift ( hence the invention). A 100lb stack is 100lbs, but the lever/pulley system will take some weight off it.

if you don't believe me, tie a 100lb dumbell to a lat pulldown set at 100lbs. i guarantee that the bar will move down under the weight of the dumbell.

  • Don't spend too much time on Muscle boards, it affects your judgment and perception.
  • Stay in school.
  • Don't do drugs.
  • Discuss.

Alex, I know we dont always see from eye to eye but I need some advice real bad and come to you as you making multiple thread of the same topic.

My chest is too hard, how can I make it saggy like an old hermit woman. I would like advice on bra size please.
Also, some helpful advices on how to make my flat stomach look like a giant balloon.

IMO you are not a bodybuilder.....but i just cant handle someone who so arrogantly gives advice who is speaking from a grand total of zero experience...
...and what is zero experience? Being 5-8%bf with oil on makes them the pinnacle of bodybuilding? Not everyone will or wants to hit the stage. That doesn't make them zero experienced. Honestly your quote is full of arrogance. I give you props on your pics, but if you had to pick an ebeef just to show them knowing you'd get called out... that's kind of weak, you think?

I actually tend to agree w/ Alex on most points (except perhaps being mean to ppl and that).

At the end of the day it is what works for you and important thing is - one must enjoy it. I am convinced that if you are dragging yourself you not gonna make gains as good as when you actually loving it.

I used to do cutting workouts with 1 hour cardio every morning and although I was getting leaner I dreaded the thought of going to the gym. Now I prefer to stay a bit softer (10% now) but enjoy the extra strength and power I get from the carbs and feel good every day having thrown around the loads and eaten large energy-rich meals.
