The past 7 years Vince has been maintaining a 4 acre parcel that had gone into foreclosure.  While the bank was bidding it's time to trap some poor sucker into a 30 year mortgage Vincent quietly went to work with the upkeep on the property.  With documentation of his labor, efforts and time the bank was left with no legal option.

Obtaining the building materials is relatively simple as Vincent is getting the home built mostly through non expiring, easily duplicated complimentary coupons from lumber yards. Often times these places discard perfectly fine construction grade materials for cosmetic reasons. They're more than happy to have someone take this stuff off their hands, and the company gets a right off for full retail.

Any other wood needed can be acquired via discarded popsicle sticks and tongue depressers. Although thin once stacked they have the tensile strength of titanium.

All concrete needs are obtained through his new Chinese contacts. Getting that stuff shipped here is exponentially cheaper than buying it out right.  

Due to lax laws on inmate work release programs, and apprentice plumbers/electrician/drywallers needing hours, all the work will be done pro bono.

Because its in state Im sure  he can get the great Falconer to donate time to oversee and offer advice.

The only real out of pocket cost will be the permits; so as you can see this McMansion is being built on the cheap for next to nothing.
Insurance will be the only other expense, because while it didn't cost much to build a fire or another disaster will reward him handsomely.

LOL thats what I was getting at, I am in the 33% tax bracket and I dont pay that much on average. If you do the math vince would need to be making around $400K a year to achieve an average federal tax rate of 28%.

$48,434 for taxes on income up to $186K
$65,505 for taxes on income above $186K up to $405K (33% tax rate on anything over $198K)
Total taxes of $113,939 on income of $405K
113,939/405,000 = 28.12%

and thats before deductions, if he is taking deductions his income would obviously need to be higher to still get that same amount.

although you can put your income at a really low level to get the credit when you're applying through the website.  its an "estimate".  unfortunately when you file your return and complete form 8962, your credit will have to be paid back because your income will be too high.  the form calculates how much of a credit you received based on your estimated income and either gives you additional credit or makes you pay back all or some of the credit if your income is too high.  so if he actually has an effective rate of 28%, then yes he makes way too much money to get any credit.  it will all have to be paid back when he does his taxes.
