Okay, so about a week ago I made the following lift claims - dumbbell presses with 120lbs for 10 reps, incline barbell presses with 315lbs for 8 reps and 465lb squats. Quakeroats called BS - understandably of course.
So I'm in the gym today and it's delts and triceps and I decide to take a video of me doing said dumbbell presses with the 120s. Just to show I don't lie about my lifts. The footage was filmed at the world famous Temple Gym in Birmingham - Dorian's place.

ALL of those reps were clean-ALL OF THEM.
PLUS, those were more SHOULDER presses than incline presses, if he lowered that incline to 35-45 degrees he would be hitting 135#'s.

I did delts today too, nowhere near the 120's though. I did 85s for 8, 90s for 6 and 95s for 4. can't do much more on 2300cals a day...

Spotting on the final 2-3 reps is just that -spotting.
He had the bench almost straight up. That is a damn good shoulder press.
If he had the bench at 35 degrees, a low incline, he could hit 135-150's.

As soon as the hand touches the elbow, it's forced. Not to take anything away from BigJ, still amazing lifts.

The dumbbells in our gym go up in 10lb increments from 110lbs onwards - I've done the 130s in the past and I'll probably start them next week now I can do 120s without too much bother. I reckon I could do the 140s for a double at the moment but it's finding a spotter to lift it up onto my shoulder that's the hard part!

You need to get the incline lower......and yes, the hard part of anything over 130 DB's is getting them up top.
I used to pull them up onto the top of my things, at the knee, and then kick them up-but anything over 120 or 130 and I needed someone to hand them to me at the very top.

If you can't throw those things up to shoulder height from a seated position, then press from there it shows that you don't have true full-rom strength in that movement IMO. Getting handed a weight= ::)

Respectable lift from that slight incline position. But, with no malice intended against BigJ, too much chest for a pure shoulder girdle press. If having the back braced against anything is needed, from that angle, than it not a true test of shoulder strength. There are 90 degree support pressing benches, that keep the body in a more upright position (used mostly for press behind the necks). Which in turn brings into play the delts much more. Any thing else is just kidding yourself.
Would like to see BigJ do a sitting (or standing) DB press. Free of any incline or upright brace or support. Either one or two handed with those 120's. See-saw's would also be impressive. Not saying that he could not, looks like he could when push comes to shove.
Those 3/4 reps are pretty standard now-a-days.Though touching the shoulders each rep may prove more of an accomplishment, as far as pure shoulder power goes. Best two hand DB press I ever saw, for reps, was a friend of mind do 140lbs from a sitting on the floor position. Legs spread out in front of him. All part of his regular shoulder workout.

Quakeroats is a class act, he graciously welcomed and congratulated BigJ on his video.
I also admit from only seeing the one old pic of BigJ I would not have believed those lifts either - so props to BigJ on the video :)

That was a nice lift by BigJ, but, when you take all things into consideration, Squad still owned him big time. Squad did so much mental damage that BigJ became preoccupied with the thought of having to prove himself on GetBig. BigJ probably went out and purchased a brand new camcorder, probably had to bug one of his friends to come out with him to the gym that day just to record the lift and then had to go through the trouble of making a youtube profile to then post the video..SHIT!! That's a lot of work!
Squad singlehandedly consumed this man's mind for way too long. All that time in which BigJ was thinking about proving Squad wrong, he could have been doing productive things in his life or thinking about different things to better himself. While I applaud BigJ for making good on his claim, the problem here emerges when you take an owning for what it is worth. Squad doesn't get owned by being proved wrong, hell every naysayer predicts shit everyday to the which 99% of it might be false, but the essence of owning someone emerges when you can take an everyday nice guy like BigJ and become the center of his thoughts. Part of his motivation in doing those lifts, even if subconsciously, had to do with Squadfather's negative influence. Why claim that your entire mind and body even if for a few days were being tormented by Squad's influence? Squad's feeble words raced through BigJ's veins as he prepped himself up for that lift. Even if in the back of his head, Squad's influence was lingering and building up enough of a presence to drive a good man to have to prove himself. Imagine if things might have gone wrong, in other words, BigJ would have torn his rotator cuff or something to that end, can you imagine the months of mental anguish that this young man would have faced at the hands of the Squadfather?
Where as what happens now? Squad gives a weak apology and says, "Hey man, nice lift, you proved me wrong, but those were half-reps anyway. When will we see inclined reps with 315?"
A perpetual cycle where sooner or later the puppet participant (In this case BigJ) will lose,

P.S. I think BigJ's lift was a solid lift. The problem now remains when BigJ continues to play Squad's game..

That was a nice lift by BigJ, but, when you take all things into consideration, Squad still owned him big time. Squad did so much mental damage that BigJ became preoccupied with the thought of having to prove himself on GetBig. BigJ probably went out and purchased a brand new camcorder, probably had to bug one of his friends to come out with him to the gym that day just to record the lift and then had to go through the trouble of making a youtube profile to then post the video..SHIT!! That's a lot of work!
Squad singlehandedly consumed this man's mind for way too long. All that time in which BigJ was thinking about proving Squad wrong, he could have been doing productive things in his life or thinking about different things to better himself. While I applaud BigJ for making good on his claim, the problem here emerges when you take an owning for what it is worth. Squad doesn't get owned by being proved wrong, hell every naysayer predicts shit everyday to the which 99% of it might be false, but the essence of owning someone emerges when you can take an everyday nice guy like BigJ and become the center of his thoughts. Part of his motivation in doing those lifts, even if subconsciously, had to do with Squadfather's negative influence. Why claim that your entire mind and body even if for a few days were being tormented by Squad's influence? Squad's feeble words raced through BigJ's veins as he prepped himself up for that lift. Even if in the back of his head, Squad's influence was lingering and building up enough of a presence to drive a good man to have to prove himself. Imagine if things might have gone wrong, in other words, BigJ would have torn his rotator cuff or something to that end, can you imagine the months of mental anguish that this young man would have faced at the hands of the Squadfather?
Where as what happens now? Squad gives a weak apology and says, "Hey man, nice lift, you proved me wrong, but those were half-reps anyway. When will we see inclined reps with 315?"
A perpetual cycle where sooner or later the puppet participant (In this case BigJ) will lose,

I quite agree with you - point taken - in terms of strength I'm about average for my size and vice versa - there are bigger guys in my gym who unsurprisingly are stronger than me. The point of the video was simply to prove my strength claim - not to make out that I am stronger pound for pound than anyone else.
