Mike seems like an ok guy, but he has some crazy delusions about his physiqe. First off, has he ever done ANY chest work? Either way, he has a definite case of gynocomastia and needs to have a doctor fix that. The other fact thats plain to see is that he apparently did not have all that much muscle underneath that fat. When he was heavier, he appeared to have the powerlifter type physique thats heavily muscled but not lean, but that is apparently not the case. Either way, I commend him on his efforts to lean out, its tough for the best of us.

In our world those pics may be harshly criticized but in the real world , I see a whole lotta folks walking around that don't look as good. Also it doesn't look like he took them with great lighting. That said, I've seen Mikes new pics and although I give him credit for a huge improvement, there just isn't enough muscle there to do well in a show. I wouldn't feel confident walking on stage unless I had a lot more size WITH conditioning but that's just me.
....anyway,Mike's got a hottie for a wife that's why he's always smiling and can laugh through all the B.S people write. :)

What some people dont realize on this site, as they've NEVER FUCKING COMPETED, is that 99% of people dont come in perfect condition for their first competition, or their second, or third .............. So even if mike may not be as shredded as he'd like to be for a competition, you gotta look at the progress he's made. Losing the amount of weight he has is never easy and it takes alot of dedication. Not everyone competes because they want to be a pro. Im sure mike as well as many others are competing to see what theyve got, to try and get into the best shape of their life, and at least be able to say they did it, if only once.

You still look relatively full muscled so I would say your loss is between 80 & 90% fat and only 10 -20 lean. not bad. Good luck with your competition. Posing in front of your camera might seem gay, but the more experience showing your goods and hiding your weak parts can only be done the way you are. Be your worst critic. All pays off in the end.

Simplest test is to see how much you lost off your pumped bi. 1/4" = 9 lb. total lean mass loss. Generally speaking, but the mirror is the best way to see if you've got it their is.

Those last shots of you in pre-contest mode look good. You came along way...keep it up. Keep in mind 90% of the people on this board giving you negative criticism never attempted to compete in anything in their life. Mike, Your improvements have encouraged me to write this short version of a very true story.
I know a guy who was a ultra fat alcoholic who was heading downhill faster than a roller coaster until someone took him to the gym one day and managed to turn him around completely.
Within four (4) years he had won the state title and competed nationally for a few years. Never won the top prize nationally but was most impressive nontheless.
You have an identical attitude so here's wishing that it carries you as far as you can go.

Dude your before and after photos are truly inspiring for me to keep dieting! I give you more credit than anyone on here by posting your shots and putting your self out there like you do. Insecurity is one of the biggest parts of bodybuilding IMO and you have shown that you over came that and don't give a f*ck what the haters say! That to me makes a man, not these homo fags on here that are 28% bodyfat who think they can diet down from 250 and be a rock hard 225 ::)! The first time I dieted and did a show I went from 245 down to 190 for the show and swore on everything I own that there was no way I had more than 20-30lbs of fat! Fat asses that have never lost all of their baby fat will never understand until they grow the balls to commit to such extreme changes. Summer is here and it feels good to take your shirt off and clown the fat boys! When winter comes, it's a entirely different ball game for me...time to be a fatty then! Keep up the hard work bro and don't give up on your goal! ;D ;D ;D

Don't worry about the weight loss....you're upper body being leaner is still giving you the illusion of still being pretty big.
Remember, sometimes bodybuilding is more of an optical illusion at times than being big has a house (unless your name is Ronnie Coleman)
Next time around in the offseason hit the lower body harder.....& see if you can match your upper body in development.
You just may shock a lot of people including yourself.....stay with it.

I remember before I started competing...I would as a fan go to the NPC shows in the Chicagoland area. Now...I trained and studied every BB mag cover to cover and was the biggest super-fanboy around. I was a legend in my own mind...thought I was the shit...thought I could step on stage and impress everyone when the truth was...I wasnt!
I remember thinking to myself...'yea, next year Im going to compete and clean house..." so sitting in the audience I was the BIGGEST arm-chair quaterback in the house. When a 'less than conditioned' athlete came out...I laughed to myself...looked upon him/her in a negative way...thought all kinds of nasty shit towards him/her...but you know what? THEY were up there my dumb POSER ass was in the audience...
The point I am trying to illustrate is this...when I did my first show in 2003...I came in last in my weight class. I look back now and laugh because I am still embarrassed. Hahaha! I was humbled when I was backstage in the pump-up room looking around at the other guys. I was HUMBLED!!!!
Now...when I'm at a show in the audience just spectating...when an athlete comes out and in all honesty seems to be over his/her head as far as preperation and development for that contest. NEVER will I look down upon or bash or giggle or smirk and look around at other people in the audience hoping to catch someones eye so I can shake my head and share a laugh or ridicule. Know why? It's because I dug through that trench and been there. I takes a certain breed to do what we do. Everyone in this thread who bashed you or said ANYTHING short of ' good job/good luck ' I will bet my life they never competed or never will. I promise you they all fall in the ''...yea, next year! " category. Know what? Fcuk THEM!
The ones here hitting you up w/ encouragements are the ones who have the guts to diet and get up under those hot/bright lights in front of 200 people. Ever see that 'MuscleHed' cartoon...the one with the fat pimply guy in the audience telling his buddy 'yea, this guy has all kinds of flaws...' pointing to the one on stage? Thats...everyone on here! Everyone on this thread slinging shit at Mike for whatever reason...never EVER sat down w/ a notebook 16 weeks out and planned every single training session and meal for the next 112 days...never ever pushed themselves on the gym floor with the fear of NOT looking your absolute best in the back of your mind, the bland meals, the having to explain to every human being around you 50x's a day how, what and why you do what you do...the ridicule from peers who dont get it, the hunger pains, the irritation of having to pee 30x's a day when you are water loading and the extreme thirst of no fluids for two days in a row, the fact that you have absolutley NO TIME to even do your own dishes because you wake up and do cardio and come home and cook all your meals for the day and go to work and train after work then hope to get to the tanning bed before they close then come home to make sure you're in bed at a certain time because you'll be dammed if you dont get any less than 8hrs of sleep, and the fatigue of standing for 2 hours while ProTan is being applied and the boredom and the back-ache(anyone who has had pro-tan applied to them by someone knows how much your back hurts and how bad you want to lie down) and the repetitive motion of going over your routine over and over again...the zombie like feeling of carb depletion, the placing and learning expierence you recieve...and the post-contest depression you feel when all that work and dedication you did for all that time is over in a day...then its back to the drawing board.
Howard, you know those feelings, right? Know what...half the fks on getbig.com will NEVER know it...they'll stick to bashing all of us that do. Know something els though...in his own way, however he did it...like him or not Mike Arvilla made a name for himself in the BB world. You cant argue that one!

Mike, it has been almost three years since I have been on stage and I miss the entire experience. A day or so after the show you will look back and love it, everything you went through will be worth it. You will be in the best shape of your life and whatever the outcome was, you will have a pretty good feeling inside. Only a handfull of bodybuilders ever compete, the sacrifice is just too much for most. Go to most any show, the seats are full of 230+ guys that will never be up there. Don`t get caught up in the comments about what some say you are lacking, focus on what you have gained that most never will. It seems you have a good woman behind you and I have found that to be the key to success in keeping yourself on track. The first show is a HUGE learning experience so have some fun along the way with it !

but..................... ..............then arvilla gets on here and people want to defend him and give him praise. no offense to him but i would never post a picture of myself with that kind of physique.my 16 yr old brother that weighs 155 has a better physique. the guy has no muscle in his chest at all and his stomach is full of fat and he has no legs. i am sure he is a nice guy but the reason these boards are a joke is b/c we defend him and trash chic and tell him how bad he looks. if we all give chic crap and praise arvilla then this board needs to be deleted. these boards are a joke

Everyone on this thread slinging shit at Mike for whatever reason...never EVER sat down w/ a notebook 16 weeks out and planned every single training session and meal for the next 112 days...never ever pushed themselves on the gym floor with the fear of NOT looking your absolute best in the back of your mind, the bland meals, the having to explain to every human being around you 50x's a day how, what and why you do what you do...the ridicule from peers who dont get it, the hunger pains, the irritation of having to pee 30x's a day when you are water loading and the extreme thirst of no fluids for two days in a row, the fact that you have absolutley NO TIME to even do your own dishes because you wake up and do cardio and come home and cook all your meals for the day and go to work and train after work then hope to get to the tanning bed before they close then come home to make sure you're in bed at a certain time because you'll be dammed if you dont get any less than 8hrs of sleep, and the fatigue of standing for 2 hours while ProTan is being applied and the boredom and the back-ache(anyone who has had pro-tan applied to them by someone knows how much your back hurts and how bad you want to lie down) and the repetitive motion of going over your routine over and over again...the zombie like feeling of carb depletion, the placing and learning expierence you recieve...and the post-contest depression you feel when all that work and dedication you did for all that time is over in a day...then its back to the drawing board.

I dont know why everyone bashes Chic either. I think its just a huge game among the regulars here of who can be the most witty or who can post the most obnoxious and shocking comments.

Played hockey in highschool. Played for a few years afterwards in various pick up rat-hockey games, leagues blah blah blah. I was a typical sports/hockey fan...saying this player SUCKS or that player SUCKS they should trade him he BLOWS rah rah rah...like 99.9999% of sports fans. They really dont know what the FK they are spewing out of their mouth. Mid 90's...Chicago BlackHawks. Had a player who was up and down from the minors...maybe get a goal a year and a few assists...Jim Cummins. Sittin around w/ my hockey buddys watching a hawks game you can hear us...'He sucks he sucks...oh, come on...he sucks!' Until one day...

I said the same thing about jiu jitsu/mma fighters until I grappled the first time with a high schooler and he tapped my a$$! By the way, I was 240ish and he was maybe 185 wet!

People are short with Chick because he has revealed himself to be a bit of a hypocrite as well as one with little or no sense of humour, particularly where he himself is concerned. Mike on the other is a bit of a joker and has no problem having fun, and if it is at his expense he does not take any real exception and usually plays along. Hence he is widely liked. We can see that mike has flaws, but he'll realize that, when he sees pics of the show. And then he'll be motivated continue to build a muscular base, and not fat.
What we support is his ability to see thru all the B.S. of "IM HUGE"....and strip it all down and build it right. Most guys will never have the balls to be honest with themselves like that.

Be carefull though, its really easy to blow yourself completely out of shape after a show..I did it, and it was tough after that..treat yourself for a day or two and then go back to eating like you are now, and youll be continuously improving.

Why would you go that low unless you're doing a keto diet, but if you were your fat intake would be higher?
The lowest I ever go on carbs when cutting is 150g/day or so. You need some muscle glycogen to spare protein.

Hey Mike, you got a cheat day right? Like every week? When you're dieting like that you need to take a day to eat like a pig (very high calorie/carb) to reset your metabolism. If not, your body will adjust to the diet and your fat loss will slow to a crawl.
I often will diet the same way as you but can't go for long periods of time because it's very parasitic on your muscles. The only way you can prevent catastrophic muscle loss is to eat a lot of fat with your protein, I mainly use MCT oil and Flaxseed oil.

Partly because he isn't eating enough (any) carbs, and he's burning muscle. Keto can work, but only if: 1) you replace the carbs with lots of fat as your primary fuel, and 2) You re-carb periodically (either post workout (TKD) or weekly (CKD)). Running depleted 24/7 is a recipie for muscle loss.
The other part of the reason is he didn't have as much muscle as he thought he did. Sure he was a "big" guy, but at 30% BF, that's a LOT of fat. The fattest I ever let myself get (at the end of a bulk) is 15%.

The reason he is losing his muscle is due to his diet. A diet with little to no carbs causes the body to start using muscle as fuel. This happens the worse to BB'ers because we have a lot of excess mass. When on such a diet, the body thinks it's starving. It's defense it to burn mass since it's the biggest consumer of calories, it also slows down the metabolism. Eating a lot of fat and running some anabolics will help keep the mass. The best is anadrol since it's extremely anabolic, but since it causes bloat(water retention) in most people, you have to drop it about a week before the contest. Any other questions sparky?

The other part of the reason is he didn't have as much muscle as he thought he did. Sure he was a "big" guy, but at 30% BF, that's a LOT of fat. The fattest I ever let myself get (at the end of a bulk) is 15%.

I know everybody is an expert and has the answer, but what I have my BB clients do is to have a bowl oatmeal with whey first thing in the AM, only 24 gr. per 1/2 cup, but their complex and will help you throughout the day. The fiber will also help with your gastronomical issues. Spinach is also a very high fiber veg. with hardly any carbs. This site has every food you can think of and breaks them down to all their basic nutrients. You know you need carbs, but the right ones. Good Luck and keep us informed of your progress.

hmmmm he had room to move. There was about a foot between the two vehicles. He just didn't think I was going to do anything. I got out of the car and all he did was rant and rave that I "owed" him respect because he was wearing dog-tags. Whether they were real or not I don't know, but a real soldier doesn't act like he did. A real soldier wouldn't be getting shitfaced and calling a girl a c-nt because she would like to leave the parking lot (while he choses to stand and chat in the middle of the exit).

It's a combination of extreme juicing and two issues related to genetics: natural structure and muscle shape and mass, and how well a person's body responds to anabolics.
While training and proper eating are required, they are very minor factors compared to the interplay of genetics and pharmaceuticals.

^Alot of these deficiences are genetics. He will never have great abs, even with low BF%. He has been cycling on and off for years, though I'm not sure if his body is responding to the AAS the way it should, or if just needs to increase his dosage. He tends to hold alot of water naturally, and I'm not sure if he's using an anti-estrogen or aromatase inhibitor either.
There's just too much we don't know to make a true determination in the case of Michael Arvilla.
I do however know that his wife has a juicy thick ass. She has had kids though.... :-\

You will be LAUGHED off the stage at the PDI show, these will be NATIONAL/Pro level physiques there, you will be lucky to place in the TIER 5 show you are doing in June.

i make between $40 -$50 dollars per hour as a world gym personal trainer (sometimes less depends on the size of the PT package sold)never less than $ 30 per hr tho
not great but not to shabby either

Ive been there, and I know how it is. I have a bodytype that packs on muscle well but unfortunatley fat too. So I had to use a diet such as yours to prep for my shows...first show i overdieted..second I didnt diet enough, third i looked well, amazing..it takes a few shows to learn your body, and fine tune it..and if you dont get too out of shape after this show, omg, just wait and see how much better youll look for your next show.. I need 3 months to get ready and im thinking about gearing up for one too..its just so tough to put all your daily life responsibilites and balance them with pre contest dieting..it just boils down to one thing, how bad do you want it.
Freakzilla, mike will learn all this as he goes- hell see the compteition, NOVICE vs OPEN is a big difference. But like i said, it he doesnt get too out of shape after the show, and starts dieting right away, hes only going to be ever improving. Sticking to his diet he has only one obstacle- TIME...He will progress and improve, and get better- And THIS FOLKS, has NOTHING TO DO WITH GEAR....YOU can look AWESOME by following a diet/eating like a BODYBUILDER..not just TRAINING like one... EATIN LIKE A BODYBUILDER> TRAINING if you want to LOOK like a bodybuilder..
After my first show, i saw the competition and new what I had to do..work harder, diet harder...and more time...

to get me depleted i was/are on a serious low carb high protein diet,cardio 2 x a day am 45 mins,pm after all meals 35 -40 mins,eat by the clock every 3 hours,low carb days = 50 grams or less(a lot of those)
high= 75 usually,low sodium,no dairy,no nothing pretty much ...except for chicken and ground turkey 5- 6 meals...
carbs= watery fiborous carbs (brocolli,cauliflower)
water = 2 gallons per day (carry it with you wherever you go!)
protein shakes were almost eliminated due to sodium content

exactly, my first time around i was taking in 50 g of carbs. and doing intense cardio first thing in the morning, then weight training about 4 hours later, then at night long distance cardio. only taking in 170 g of protein, and max 30 grams of fat. i felt like shit throughout the whole day, lost muscle, luckily i managed to keep a lot though. it's an experiment, this is my 2nd time dieting and i started it MUCH MORE knowledgable about diet and nutrition, yet I still find myself tweaking my diet and learning new methods.....I LOVE IT!!

I believe there was a thread about Stallone's diet and training for Rocky 3. Well I was aware of that diet and his training, he had it on his website and he was someone I looked up to since I had his kind of physique. I was young, not too knowledgable about diet and nutrition. So yeah it's a whole different game now buddy!

Mike, all I have to say is whether people love you or hate, your deisre to compete has caused 16 pages to be written and all of them about you. As far as non-pro members go, with the exception of maybe 240 who else can say they get that many people talking about them. The good feedback shows you people have respect and the negative shows how much you control people's emotions. Either way, it must feel good. Good luck brother.

Second pic. is much improved but drop the left shoulder down, square it off. You are making great improvemets! Stay focused! And don't be afraid of food! How many weeks out are you as of today?

to get all that "interwoven " fat out i had to deplete my body (hence the "emaciated" look)
once i did that i could fill out a lil (carb up.red meat etc)

You better get going on the routine. All of this hard work can go down the tube if you don't optimally display your physique. Keep in mind you need TWO routines. One for the prejudgin w/o music. The other for the night show with music. Don't do the same for both...it looks silly and it's a clear sign of a total amature.
Here is another tip: the best routine is not about who poses the best or who can do gimmicky "pop" moves, etc. It's an opportunity to showcase your physique at its best. So, if you have a pose that you look like crap in...DON'T do it on your routine. Stick to a good mix of your best poses with good transitions...

You may be inclined to want to take a couple weeks off after a show to sleep in and engorge and thats cool...nothing wrong with that but I read once something from Dorian he said how after a show it was right back to the gym to grow because like NCNPC said...your body is so like a sponge and will soak everything up....this is what I did just recently...
I did a show in the Chicagoland area April 1st...as hard as it was, I was back in the gym Monday and I didnt so much go heavy but more of a moderate weight pumping style routine...but I ate 70% BB style...30% whatever the hell I wanted...I am currently 'off cycle' but and I'm not using the weights I was using nor the intensity PLUS I took my training split to 4 days a week instead of 5 with cardio only twice a week instead of 5 days a week for only 30 minutes instead of 40-60 and everyone keeps asking me if I have another show around the corner because I only gained 10lbs back but I even say...I look waaaay bigger and still have a good degree of vascularity and abs are still visible. I dont feel deprived anymore and my joints feel fine. So my plan is to spread my training out to one bodypart every 8 or 9 days as summer progresses and the heat increases outside. Instead of taking 1-3 weeks off like most competitors do...this is what I did(finally). I am maintaining 85% of my stage condition and not killing myself and have more time free'd up to live life.
Thats way better than taking 2-3 weeks off...lose your abs and then back to 5 days a week in the gym trying to figure out what went wrong where and worrying about what to do to get your contest intensity style training back in check. Hope this helps...PM me if you ever need any advice or anything...

Great advice, I would definitely follow what you outlined. After I competed I took about 3 weeks off from the gym. Huge mistake. If I could take back time I would do exactly what you outlined. There's just no need to be off that long after (from training and eating correctly). You can still enjoy some "normal lifestyle" time while still following a moderate diet and a reduced split. I know it will be tough after you're done but you will be greatful if you rough it out. I literally felt like dead man walking after the night show.

The rebound is the absolute best. After my first show....that night I had a whole Pizza Pie, 6 wings and half a gallon of Ice Cream. I woke up few hrs later and and had the rest of the IC.
By Tuesday 3 days later I had put on 15 lbs and looked more shredded and in better shape then the night of the show.... ;D
I had depleted myself soo much that my body was like a sponge and absorbed whatever it was given, carbs, protein, fat.....
That Weds I was back in the gym training...people couldn't believe it as many individuals take 2-4 weeks off to mentally & physically recoup.....

The rebound is the absolute best. After my first show....that night I had a whole Pizza Pie, 6 wings and half a gallon of Ice Cream. I woke up few hrs later and and had the rest of the IC.

I know but its hard for me to fathom bashing and mud slinging fellow competitors. It's easy for someone who doesnt have the gonads to compete to sling shit...I cant see a self-respecting competitor doing the same...

e-mailed a couple dj's about putting together a routine like you had outlined
so...................... ....it's comming (slowly but surely!)

Don't be so sarcastic Billy. Arvilla has some things in common with Dorian, they both train hard and love this sport. Sure Arvilla's results don't match Dorian's but that is only because Dorian was a mesomorph that juiced his azz off and Arvilla is a endo-ectomorph that is all natural. They both made tremendous progress from their starting points, and the fact that Arvilla did it all natural without any chemical assistance might even make him more impressive. I know it is hard to see that because Arvilla still isn't muscular or lean, but consider how he looked before he started training.

Hey 240, for the $300 website is that only html and navigation? or does include include back end and middle tier stuff also?
Is your back ground mostly front end related stuff? or can you program business objects also? if so what programming languages do you know?

I am learning php now. Did a lot of java and vb in college. Up front, I get a clear estimate of the customer's needs and what the site will entail. Usually if a customer has a specific request, I'll learn it, if possible. If it's back end and it's beyond my skillset, I work with a partner (the very talented garraeth) who can code anything anytime. So it might go a little over 300, but i've never had one go over 400 total even with a complex DB/ecomm system. The cutomer knows all costs, limitations, and expectations up front before a dime ever changes hands.
I'm a sales & marketing guy first- profitability is goal #1 for the customer. My repeat business is terrific right now... over 1/3 of my clients are repeat clients, which is very good for efficiency. I'm always very upfront with my capabilities and limitations, and will always fwd someone in the right direction if I'm not the right man for a job.

Well 240 is a lot more prolific than me, but I've been lurking on this board longer than he's been posting. I think I was here for about a year before Historian Yates left, and when jimmy was still vikingpower (not vp).

I do free hosting and usually buy the name for the customer too. Or, they can do the hosting themselves with their own ISP. No monthly charges if I host it. I'll either teach them to do it if they wish, I'll do updates for $3 each, I'll do them for free if they were a banner for me, or I'll do unlimited changes for a flat rate of $150 a year. I'm pretty flexible, whatever makes the most sense for the customer to make them profitable.
