A fervent Trump supporter who said that he was casting his 2024 vote to fight child trafficking is now being charged with 10 counts of possessing child pornography.
Scott Soucek of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, was arrested on July 24 and accused of accessing hundreds of child pornography images through a file-sharing system.
Soucek isn’t just a Trump booster himself: he’s also the husband of a leading Republican Party operative in the state.
His wife, Stephanie Soucek, is the chairwoman of the Door County Republican Party. Last year, she represented Wisconsin as a delegate at the Republican National Convention.
In a Facebook post last October, Scott Soucek listed two dozen reasons why he planned to vote for Trump.
“I’m voting to fight against human/child trafficking,” Soucek wrote as one of the reasons.
He added later in the post that he was not just voting for himself but also “for my children and my grandchildren.”
More than 15 years before that post, Door County investigators analyzed his laptop, and he admitted to downloading child pornography images in 2009. However, he was never charged with a crime.
The new criminal complaint filed against Soucek this month states that it “remains unclear” why the 2009 investigation into Soucek was not referred to the local district attorney’s office.
The 12-page complaint includes horrifying descriptions of the explicit images that were downloaded to an IP address believed to belong to Soucek in March of this year.

Jason Christopher Yates, 56, pleaded guilty to two of eight felony counts of possession of child pornography on Tuesday, July 22, in a district court in McLeod County, Minnesota, according to a plea petition obtained by USA TODAY.
Yates was initially charged and arrested in October 2024, according to Minnesota state court records. My Faith Votes told Religion News Service that Yates served as its CEO until August 2024.
“In early August 2024, the My Faith Votes board of directors separated Jason Yates from My Faith Votes and board member Chris Sadler assumed the position of Acting CEO," the statement reads. "Over the last three months Chris has been working with the dedicated My Faith Votes team to encourage millions of Christians to vote, pray and think biblically about this election in America.”

Prosecutors say Republican lawmaker used name ‘joebidennnn69’ to send child sex material
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A Republican member of the South Carolina House who prosecutors say used the screen name “joebidennnn69” has been arrested and charged with 10 counts of distributing sexual abuse material involving children.
RJ May was arrested at his Lexington County home after a lengthy investigation and was ordered Thursday by a federal judge to remain jailed until his trial.
The three-term Republican is accused of using “joebidennnn69” to exchange 220 different files of toddlers and young children involved in sex acts on the Kik social media network for about five days in spring 2024, according to court documents that graphically detailed the videos.
Each charge carries a five-to-20 year prison sentence upon conviction and prosecutors suggested May could spend over a decade in prison if found guilty.
The files were uploaded and downloaded using May’s home Wi-Fi network and his cellphone, prosecutors said. Some were hidden by the use of a private network but others were directly linked to his internet addresses.

State Sen. Justin Eichorn, R-Grand Rapids, was arrested in Bloomington on suspicion of soliciting a minor for sex.
Bloomington Police led Eichorn, 40, to believe he was talking to a 17-year old girl* and then met the senator and arrested him Monday near the 8300 block of Normandale Avenue, according to a Bloomington Police Department press release.
“We are shocked by these reports and this alleged conduct demands an immediate resignation. Justin has a difficult road ahead and he needs to focus on his family,” Senate Republicans said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.
Police say they saw Eichorn arriving in the area by pick-up truck and arrested him without incident outside his vehicle.
Eichorn, who also serves as chair of the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board, was booked into the Bloomington Police Department jail and will be transported to the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center, the release said. Felony charges of soliciting a minor to practice prostitution are pending, Bloomington police said.

A Houston man who was recently pardoned by President Donald Trump for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection has been arrested on an outstanding child sex crimes charge.
Andrew Taake, 36, was taken into custody on Thursday after spending more than two weeks as a fugitive, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office said. He had previously been charged with online solicitation of a minor stemming from a 2016 incident in which he allegedly sent sexually explicit messages to an undercover law enforcement officer who was posing as a 15-year-old girl.
Taake was among the roughly 1,600 people, including 120 Texans, who were charged for their roles in the U.S. Capitol riot, which ultimately resulted in five deaths, injuries to 140 police officers, at least $2.8 million in damage and roughly 1,575 federal criminal cases.
Federal prosecutors said Taake used bear spray and a metal whip to assault officers, and that he was caught after bragging about the incident to a woman he met on an online dating app. Screenshots of his messages to the woman, who later alerted law enforcement, show that he sent a selfie of himself to the woman that he said was taken “about 30 minutes” after the incident, according to court records.

An 18-year-old in Utah who was accused of having sex with a 13-year-old avoided jail after the laws governing sexual offenses were changed while his relative was president of the state Senate.
Senate President J. Stuart Adams confided to legislators that the law relating to his relative's case should be reviewed in a large bill that was passed in 2024, according to a report from The Salt Lake Tribune.
Adams told The Salt Lake Tribune: "Some have suggested this change was made to benefit the case I was made aware of involving the high school senior. That is simply not true.
"While the sponsor of [the bill] was aware of the case, I did not request the legislation and did not intervene or give input on the drafting of the bill."
The fact that the 18-year-old was related to someone with significant political power in Utah has raised questions over whether or not the legislation was adopted in order to make the sentencing less strict.

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Federal agents have arrested James Benjamin Gosnell, Jr., 68, of Charleston, on a criminal complaint charging him with possession of child sexual abuse material.*
The complaint alleges that agents with the Department of Homeland Security Investigations received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about multiple financial transactions with a known distributor of child sexual abuse material from the United Kingdom. The payments came from a peer-to-peer online money transfer account associated with Gosnell’s known phone number, address, and email account. The transactions occurred in November 2024.
Thereafter, agents obtained a search warrant for Gosnell’s home and electronic devices. During the execution of the search warrant, agents located a flash drive containing numerous videos and images depicting child sexual abuse, including videos and images of prepubescent minors, infants, and toddlers engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Gosnell was arrested this morning and is set to be arraigned Wednesday morning before U.S. Magistrate Judge Molly Cherry.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals, who sexually exploit children, as well as to identify and rescue victims. Robert Preston Morris, 64, entered the pleas before a judge in Osage County as part of a plea agreement, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond said in a statement.
Under the plea agreement, Morris received a 10-year suspended sentence with the first six months to be served in the Osage County Jail. He also must register as a sex offender and will be supervised by Texas authorities via interstate compact. Morris was also ordered to pay his costs of incarceration, including any medical expenses, and restitution to the victim.
A message left for one of Morris’ attorneys, Mack Martin, of Oklahoma City, was not immediately returned Thursday.

Texas megachurch founder pleads guilty to child sex abuse charges
The founder of a Texas megachurch who resigned last year after a woman in Oklahoma accused the pastor of sexually abusing her in the 1980s pleaded guilty Thursday to five counts of lewd and indecent acts with a child, authorities said.
Robert Preston Morris, 64, entered the pleas before a judge in Osage County as part of a plea agreement, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond said in a statement.
Under the plea agreement, Morris received a 10-year suspended sentence with the first six months to be served in the Osage County Jail. He also must register as a sex offender and will be supervised by Texas authorities via interstate compact. Morris was also ordered to pay his costs of incarceration, including any medical expenses, and restitution to the victim.
A message left for one of Morris’ attorneys, Mack Martin, of Oklahoma City, was not immediately returned Thursday.
Morris, the senior pastor of Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, until his resignation, was indicted by a Multi-County Grand Jury earlier this year. The attorney general’s statement said the pleas were entered before Osage County District Special Judge Cindy Pickerill.

Penalties range from 3 to 10 years in state prison, depending on the victim's age and whether force was used. Acts with 14 or 15 year olds when the offender is significantly older can be a felony ("wobbler").
PC 288.5 (Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child): Committing three or more sexual or lewd acts with a child under 14 over three months or more is a felony, especially if the offender has access to the child. It can result in a sentence of 6 to 16 years.
PC 288.7 (Sexual Acts with a Child Under 10): Specific sexual acts with a child 10 or younger by an adult are felonies. Penalties are severe, ranging from 15 years to life, or 25 years to life.

Timothy Jaekel, 52, was arrested in Sacramento County after being accused of a long-term pattern of sexual child abuse.
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — Timothy Jaekel, the Lincoln police officer accused of sexually abusing minor family members, has been released from jail, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
According to Sgt. Amar Gandhi, Jaekel, who was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on Thursday, was initially ineligible for bail due to his charges, but after a court reviewed the charges, set bail at $250,000.
Officials say Jaekel was released on bond Friday morning.
An investigation into Jaekel began when the sheriff's office said it received a call on June 23 claiming four female family members were sexually abused years earlier by their uncle, 52-year-old Timothy Jaekel. Deputies spoke on the phone with an adult woman living in Arizona, who they said was the primary victim.
Deputies said they later learned Jaekel is currently an officer with the Lincoln Police Department.
The woman told deputies that she had already contacted the Lincoln Police Department earlier in the day and told them about the alleged abuse before contacting the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, officials said. The sheriff's office said it immediately notified Lincoln police about the complaint.
Lincoln police said Jaekel was placed on administrative leave in June after learning about the investigation.
All four alleged victims were interviewed, claiming a long-term pattern of being touched by Jaekel over and under their clothing when they were between the ages of 8 and 16, the sheriff's office said. The crimes allegedly took place in Sacramento County.
“They were all family members, some distant, some close,” Gandhi said. “These investigations do take a little bit longer.”
Investigators said one additional potential victim has not decided whether they will come forward.
Jaekel also asked one of the young women for nude pictures of her when she was a minor, authorities said. The four victims also reportedly claimed they saw Jaekel touching other female family members inappropriately.
“Probably the most violating act you could do on someone else,” Gandhi said. “So the courage displayed by those four victims might encourage that other victim to come forward. If not, then no problem.”

According to court documents, Raymon (Ray) Everett Holmberg, 81, of Grand Forks, traveled to Prague approximately 14 times between 2011 and 2021. During these trips, while staying at a brothel that catered to men looking to engage in commercial sex with adolescent boys, Holmberg paid for sex acts with boys. During some of the trips, Holmberg used the alias “Sean Evans.” Witnesses told law enforcement that Holmberg did not want his name on the brothel’s registry because he was a North Dakota state legislator. Witnesses also told law enforcement that Holmberg would also visit a public park in front of the main train station in Prague to procure sex from underage boys.
Holmberg also used the “Evans” alias to tell friends about his trips and encourage them to travel to Prague. In these communications, Holmberg shared an image of an adolescent boy that he called “his twink,” and said that “no one is ever to [sic] young . . . remember Prague.” He emailed a different friend a link to a brothel in Prague and suggested that they go that summer, writing: “The boys rent at around $60 . . . (sex is extra).” Holmberg also wrote: “It will be decadent but oh so much fun bro. What happens in Prague—Stays in Prague.” Back in the United States, Holmberg boasted about having engaged in sexual activity with boys as young as 12- and 15-years old during his travels.
According to the government’s sentencing memorandum, Holmberg’s sexual exploitation of minors was not limited to his trips to Prague. Holmberg established an online relationship with a 16-year-old Canadian boy, posing as a boy of a similar age in order to manipulate the Canadian teen into taking images of himself engaging in sexually explicit conduct and sending them to Holmberg.
On Aug. 8, 2024, Holmberg pleaded guilty to traveling in foreign commerce for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct.

Someone posted a headline saying "50% of Republicans believe Trump won the popular vote"......
I thought that seemed odd. Not putting it past some Republicans being morons, but 50%? Didn't seem right.
So I clicked on the article, and it had a chart, at the bottom, it had a link to the data. So I clicked that.
Data set was 1,100 folks interviewed. OK, that's a fair sample I thought.
So you would think for the headline to be true, it should be 1,100 R's sampled, with 550 of them saying he won the popular vote.
But nope.......1000 of the folks sampled got it RIGHT, leaving 100 dumbasses who got it wrong.
Of those remaining 100 dumbasses:
50 were Republicans
35 were Democrats
15 no affiliaton.
They they took 50/100 and said "50% of Republicans".....which is wrong...it was 50 R's out of 1100 sampled.....and by that, it was 35 D's out off 1100........so not 50%......but only a 15 person difference overall......
So their own data contradicted their headline.
After that, I started independently checking on stuff I read, and found it was much worse. The emergence of social media has only amplified it, to the point we are at now.
Believe me, I HATE that we can't trust our media. It causes so much harm, stress and damage to our country that it's immeasurable.

A Michigan man will face trial on murder and assault charges in connection with the murder of his teen son, and shooting of his two other children.
Jeff Smerer, 44, was arrested last month after allegedly shooting his three children, killing one of them, on the morning he was scheduled to be sentenced on a sex-crime conviction, per several reports.
On the day of the shooting, Smerer was scheduled to be sentenced for an indecent exposure conviction, The Detroit News, the Port Huron Times Herald and CBS News reported, citing court records and the District Court Judge Dennis J Rickert.
He was convicted for exposing his genitals to a child in the care of his family's daycare between 2020 and 2023, the Port Huron Times Herald reported.
Early in the morning of his sentencing day, "he woke up, woke the kids up to go to school and you know, it was a regular day and something just happened," a family member told ABC 7, adding, "It doesn't make sense."
Huron police were notified of reports of a shooting around 6 a.m. that morning, they said in their statement, and found the three children shot in the home.
Investigators say Smerer reportedly tried to take his own life after the shootings, WPHM reported.

SAN MARCOS, Texas (Gray News) - A teacher was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing children for decades.
Andrew Palmore, 53, was found guilty of continuous sexual abuse of children earlier this month and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
In February 2022, the Kyle Police Department started investigating Palmore, a former teacher at Blanco Vista Elementary School, after a child who was not a student at the school spoke to police about being sexually abused by Palmore.
During the investigation, Detective Pedro Carrasco Jr. learned that Palmore had previously been investigated by the San Marcos Police Department after another child said they had been sexually abused by him.
In that investigation by San Marcos Police, Palmore admitted to abusing three children. The investigation also led to the discovery of additional elementary-aged children claiming Palmore had sexually abused them, including his former students at Casey Elementary School.
During Palmore’s trial, the jury heard testimony from six children and two adult women who were abused by Palmore.
Hays County Criminal District Attorney Kelly Higgins said Palmore used his position as a teacher to gain access to children and the trust of the community and parents.

The Davidson County Sheriff's Office has announced additional charges against Jeremy Lanning Amburn, 43, in an ongoing child sexual abuse investigation.
Amburn, initially arrested on September 12, 2025, for multiple sexual assault and abuse charges, now faces three counts of felony first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and four counts of felony third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. The charges stem from evidence found on devices seized during a search of his residence and business.
Angela Carpenter Amburn, 40, was also implicated for being aware of and facilitating the abuse, according to police. Jeremy Amburn was arrested again on October 16 at the Davidson County Detention Center, where he was already held under a $5 million secured bond. A magistrate set a $100,000 secured bond for the new charges, with a court date scheduled for Dec. 2, 2025, in Lexington District Court.
The Davidson County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate and urges anyone with information to contact Detective Hall at 336-242-2120.

FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) — A judge on Wednesday found a 30-year-old man from Gas City guilty on one child sex charge and not guilty on another, online court records show.
In a bench trial, Judge Brandi Foster-Kirkendall found Austin Cohee was guilty of child molesting where the defendant is at least 21 years old, and not guilty of contributing to the delinquency of a minor involving a child younger than 16.
Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner said in a news release issued Thursday morning that Cohee will remain in the custody of the Johnson County jail until his sentencing at 9 a.m. Nov. 21.
The Republican prosecutor noted that the case involved “an out-of-county criminal coming to Johnson County to prey on our citizens.”

Keith Kelly handed down a 50-year sentence to Ian Tatro, 28, Monday after he pleaded guilty to 20 counts of unlawful neglect of a child and one count of obstruction of justice, according to the 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Prosecutors say Tatro gave the child animal feces as a Christmas gift, made the child stand in a garbage can for hours with trash thrown on her, and restricted her from using a bathroom while making her wear a diaper.

CADDO PARISH, La. (KSLA) - A man from DeBerry, Texas, has been arrested for committing sex crimes against juveniles, according to Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.
The Special Victims Unit of the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) conducted an investigation into the sexual abuse of two victims. Although the victims are now adults, the abuse occurred when they were between the ages of 13 and 14.
The offender has been identified as 67-year-old Walter Jeff Shadoin.
During the investigation, both victims reported incidents of sexual abuse and grooming involving Shadoin. He exploited his position as a family friend and mentor to isolate the victims and engage them in conversations about sexual acts on multiple occasions, according to CPSO. These incidents took place in Caddo Parish between 2007 and 2010.
Shadoin was contacted by authorities for an interview, which led to the investigation’s findings.
As a result, Shadoin has been charged with:
two counts of sexual battery
two counts of indecent behavior with juveniles
one count of misdemeanor sexual battery
A warrant was issued for Shadoin’s arrest, and he surrendered to the Caddo Correctional Center on October 22.

HUNTINGBURG, Ind. (WFIE) - Huntingburg Police Department officials say a man is in jail after detectives found he was in possession of child sex abuse material.
According to a press release, a Cyber Tip was generated and included media files depicting child sex abuse material.
During the investigation, it was determined that 51-year-old Roy E. Stearns of Holland was the user of the Google account that uploaded the CSAM files.
On Tuesday, two search warrants were executed in Holland.
Officials say detectives from the Huntingburg Police Department were assisted by investigators with the Jasper Police Department, Dubois County Sheriff’s Office, Ferdinand Police Department and Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office.
During the search, additional evidence was seized and will be searched for additional child sex abuse material.
Stearns was arrested and is being charged with Possession of Child Sex Abuse Material.

At least 10 January 6th insurrectionists pardoned by President Trump have already been rearrested, charged or sentenced for other crimes. The crimes include plotting murder of FBI agents, child sexual assault, possession of child sexual abuse material and reckless homicide while driving drunk—underscoring the public safety threats posed by the pardoned insurrectionists.

Shane Jason Woods: Woods pleaded guilty to assaulting police and a press photographer. After Trump’s pardon, Woods was convicted in April for multiple counts including reckless homicide and driving under the influence in 2022.
Theodore Middendorf: Middendorf pleaded guilty to destruction of government property on January 6th. He was previously sentenced in 2024 to 19 years in prison for sexually assaulting a seven year old and remains in prison.
Taylor Taranto: Taranto was convicted of several crimes related to January 6th including possession of an unregistered firearm. He was arrested in 2023 for illegal gun possession and making a threat to blow up the National Institute of Standards and Technology and was convicted this May.
Brent John Holdridge: Holdridge pleaded guilty to parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building on January 6th. He was arrested in May for stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of industrial copper wire and faces charges of burglary, grand theft and possession of stolen property.
Zachary Alam: Alam was sentenced to eight years in prison for his role in the insurrection. After Trump’s pardon, Alam was rearrested in May for an alleged home invasion and theft. Trump will probably float them a pardon, as I'm sure they are all good people.

Wideman’s charges include four counts of using computers to commit a crime, three counts of child sexually abusive activity and one count of accosting children for immoral purposes, and he has not yet entered a plea.

Beckwith, as it turns out, is also dealing with separate claims stemming from a grand jury investigation into whether staffers in his office shared a deepfake porn video. He told Fox 59 his office had looked into the claim and found no video, further saying the allegation had “the characteristics of a witch hunt.”
On top of all that, The Washington Post reported last Thursday on allegations compiled by the Anglican Church in North America, a conservative offshoot of the Episcopal Church that severed its ties after Episcopalians voted to confirm the denomination’s first openly gay bishop in 2003. The Post’s story highlights Anglican Church in North America members’ accusations that an archbishop sexually harassed a woman in his office and that a bishop allowed men with histories of violence or sexual misconduct to worship or hold staff or leadership positions in his diocese.
The archbishop, Stephen Wood, denied the allegations in comments to the Post. The bishop, Stewart Ruch III, declined through a diocese spokeswoman to comment to the Post, citing a church court directive against commenting to the media as he awaits the verdict of an internal trial.

It should probably go without saying that these stories don’t reflect well on a conservative Christian movement fueled by evangelicals who think it is their destiny to run American society. Donald Trump has also told conservative evangelicals the country would be better off if they were in control.

Tobyhanna, Pa. — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced charges against a Monroe County man who possessed and disseminated child sexual abuse material — with agents finding at least 1,000 files depicting children.
Marc Villanti, 54, is charged with more than 1,000 felonies, following a search warrant served by Office of Attorney General agents at Villanti’s Tobyhanna home.
Villanti was arraigned and bail was set at $100,000 cash. If he posts bail, he is prohibited from accessing the internet and is to have no contact with children. He also was required to surrender his passport.

A children’s pastor was caught filming girls in a church bathroom in Arkansas. Elders suspended him for a few weeks.
In Illinois, a preacher was accused of sexually abusing children. Church leaders sent him to therapy rather than call police.
In California, a worship minister went to prison for molesting boys. His congregation threw him a party when he returned.
All of these men remained in ministry in the Assemblies of God, the world’s largest Pentecostal denomination. All went on to abuse more children.
Since the 1970s, Assemblies of God churches have repeatedly reinstated ministers and volunteer leaders accused of sexual misconduct, returning them to pulpits and youth groups, an NBC News investigation found. While some of the other largest Christian denominations now require safeguards such as background checks and mandatory reporting, national Assemblies of God leaders have resisted, arguing such rules would increase legal risk, undermine its commitment to local church autonomy and defy a core biblical command: to forgive.
The result is a patchwork system that has protected accused predators and left generations of children in danger.
NBC News identified nearly 200 Assemblies of God pastors, church employees and volunteer leaders accused of sexual abuse over the past half century, based on a nationwide search of lawsuits, criminal records and news archives. Together, they allegedly abused more than 475 people — the overwhelming majority of them children. The allegations stretch into this year, when a 10-year-old girl said in a lawsuit that her pastor groped her during Bible study.
Survivors say they were violated in sanctuaries, at pastors’ homes and in tents on camping trips. A California preacher was accused of holding knives to children’s chests while forcing them to perform sex acts on each other. In Louisiana, a youth leader confessed to drugging and assaulting three boys during a sleepover. A couple in New Mexico say their pastor used his spiritual authority to drive them apart, then coerced the wife into sex.
Of the alleged abusers, 123 were ministers, and nearly half of those were youth pastors. Others were church employees, youth group leaders or Sunday school teachers. Dozens were accused of luring boys through the Royal Rangers, a Pentecostal version of the Boy Scouts.
In about 30 instances, church leaders placed alleged abusers into positions of authority after they had been accused, freeing them to strike again. Convicted sex offenders led youth groups. Accused ministers were reinstated or quietly moved to new congregations. As a result, according to lawsuits and police records, dozens more children were abused.
