Harvard is the best school in the world.  Don't let a couple of idiots cloud your judgement.

The geniuses of Wall Street 10 miles down the road from me were not too brilliant as far as I am concerned.

The genius Bush from Yale was just stellar in his performance.

Larry Summers is a joke and Harvard is going broke because of his recklessness.

Most ivy leaguers really believe the hype and are no better an than anyone else IMHO.

Of course the Ivy Leauge schools atrract great students, but I really dont believe they produce any better of a student at the end than many other colleges.

Gates = owned.  Gates = double owned when they release the tapes of him acting like a fool.  Ha-ha, I love it!  Gates is being exposed.

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts (CNN) -- President Obama said Friday he spoke with the police officer who arrested a Harvard professor and told the officer he did not mean to malign the Cambridge Police Department.

President Obama on Friday explains to reporters the details of a phone conservation with Sgt. James Crowley.

1 of 3  Obama's phone conversation came about two hours after police unions said Obama should apologize to members of the Cambridge Police Department for saying they acted stupidly, the president of a city police union said Friday.

Dennis O'Connor, president of the Cambridge Police Superior Officers Association, also took aim at Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, who reportedly has characterized the arrest as "every black man's nightmare and a reality for many black men."

Echoing the words of arresting officer Sgt. James Crowley -- who handcuffed Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. last week -- O'Connor said he was dismayed that the president and governor would opine on the issue without all the details.

"It's noteworthy that both qualified their statements by saying they did not have all the facts," O'Connor said as members of his and another police union stood behind him. "Usually, when one hears those words, one would expect the next words to be 'so I cannot comment.' Instead, both officials, both admitted friends of professor Gates, proceeded to insult the handling of this case."

He further said Cambridge police resent the implication they allowed race to dictate their actions in the situation.

"We hope that [Obama and Deval] will reflect upon their past comments and apologize to the men and women of the Cambridge Police Department," O'Connor said.

Steve Killian, president of the Cambridge Police Patrol Officers Association, also called on Obama to apologize to "all law enforcement personnel throughout the entire country that took offense to this."

Crowley has previously said he was dismayed by the president's remarks and that Obama had offended police in Cambridge and elsewhere.

"I was a little surprised and disappointed that the president, who didn't have all of the facts by his own admission, then weighed in on the events of that night and made a comment that really offended not just officers in the Cambridge Police Department but officers around the country," Crowley told CNN affiliate WHDH-TV in Boston.

Obama said earlier he was "surprised by the controversy surrounding" his comments.

"I think it was a pretty straightforward commentary that you probably don't need to handcuff a guy, a middle-aged man who uses a cane, who's in his own home," Obama told ABC's "Nightline."  Watch Crowley's boss defend the arrest »

When Obama waded into the story by answering a question about it during his news conference Wednesday night, he admitted that he "may be a little biased" because Gates is a friend.

"I don't know all the facts," he also conceded.

He said he did not know what role race played, but "the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home." iReport.com: Arrest sparks debate

Crowley, in the police report about the incident, said Gates refused to cooperate with him and repeatedly accusing him of racism when he went to Gates' home following a report of a possible break-in July 16.

Crowley said he tried to determine whether there was someone else at the home and wanted to ensure Gates' safety.

Gates, however, told him "that I had no idea who I was 'messing' with" and was being so loud that he could not give pertinent information to the department when he was calling in, the sergeant said.

Authorities have said they may release tapes of the officer calling in, in which Gates is heard in the background

Crowley's report said that when he asked to speak with Gates outside, the professor at one point responded, "I'll speak with your mama outside."  Watch Crowley's response »

Gates' attorney, Charles Ogletree, said the professor never made such a remark.

The full story will show that Gates did nothing wrong -- and that Crowley did not identify himself at first, Ogletree said.

Gates said Wednesday he would listen to Crowley "if he would tell the truth about what he did, about the distortions that he fabricated in the police report. I would be prepared as a human being to forgive him."

Crowley has said he will not apologize. The police incident report states that Crowley twice provided his name to Gates, who subsequently asked for it two more times.

Gates ultimately was arrested for disorderly conduct, but the department later dropped the charges.

Cambridge police Commissioner Robert Haas said he "deeply regrets" the arrest but stands by the procedures his department followed.

"I trust [Crowley's] judgment implicitly. He is a stellar officer," Haas said.

He added the department is "very proud about its diversity within this community and how hard we've worked over the years to build a strong, solid relationship [between] the department and the community."

Haas said he agreed with Crowley about Obama's remarks.

"I have to tell you the officers take that very personally and basically feel hurt by that comment. We truly are trying to do the best service we can to the community and sometimes we make mistakes. We're human. But we learn from those mistakes and we move on," he said.

Numerous police officers, including African-Americans, have spoken up on Crowley's behalf and portrayed him as a good and fair officer. Crowley, who is white, had once been chosen by a black police officer to teach a police academy course on ways to avoid racial profiling.

Obama said he had heard of Crowley's record, saying, "I don't know all the extenuating circumstances, and as I said, I respect what police officers do. From what I can tell, the sergeant who was involved is an outstanding police officer, but my suspicion is probably it would have been better if cooler heads prevailed."

Gates' legal team argues that authorities are misrepresenting the professor and the officer, and Gates has said he is determined to keep the issue alive despite the charges being dropped.

"This is not about me; this is about the vulnerability of black men in America," he said this week.

Ogletree said Gates may bring forward people who say they've had similar experiences with Crowley.

When asked for examples, Ogletree said only that they may come out in time depending on how the police department handles the situation moving forward.

"I think you will be hearing much more complex and different perspective on him [Crowley] in the coming days and weeks," Ogletree said, alleging that Crowley "is well-known among people, particularly young people, for some of his police practices."

Gates has no immediate plans to file a lawsuit against the department, the attorney said. Ogletree had said earlier Gates might sue the police

This post is ridiculous.  For the few examples you just gave, you could show thousands of ivy grads who did great things.  Harvard is the best school in the world, no doubt about it.

We will agree to disagree.  Yes, Harvard is one of the best schools, but I do not take someones' going there as evidence of any level of superiority or untouchable wisdom.

ZERO was sold as a brilliant Harvard lawyer.  So far, I have seen nothing but complete incompetence, idiocy, and an utter lack of education in basic economics.

With respect to his legal prowess, the man never tried a case, not even a speeding ticket!

He thinks our constitution is flawed and that he is somehow more qualified to say what it should be as opposed to what it is.  I dont know what in his background makes him think he qualified to say this, but that is another story.

I am not impressed by this man on any level and resent people trying to tell me that is a "brilliant Harvard lawyer" when he does not even grasp basic concepts on so many issues.

Ok, but your disdain for Obama is clouding your judgement.  Harvard is by far the best college in the US.  One of my best friends went for his undergrade and the work he did was epic.  I went to BU, I can tell ya, it's not even close to Harvard.

I think alot of it has to do with being around the best students in the first place.

Look, if my kid got into Harvard, i would do whatever I could to send them there, but at the same time, I am not going to kid myself into thinking that someone who goes there is somehow smarter or more capable than everyone else.

I have met morons from harvard, and VERY SMART people who never went to college.

Agreed, it's the best school in the world.  Most of the time someone who goes to Harvard is more capable academically than most everyone else.  It's extremely hard to get into that school and they only accept the best of the best.  I think what you meant is that academic smarts don't always translate into proper social/communication skills (which are imperative to successfull business people).  You may run into a very smart harvard grad who has the people skills of a rock, and viola, you think he or she is an idiot.

Very true.  But the vast majority of people you meet from Harvard would be considered very smart.  I'd say 99% of them.  Ill give 1% to the people who get in based on wealth and fame.  They don't last long, though.

That's not why Gates was arrested. He was arrest for disturbing the peace after was told, repeatedly, by Sgt. Crowley to calm down.

The police officer got this one right.

He was in his own house.  That isn't disturbing the peace.  He was disturbing Crowley's ego.

False.  Have you read all sides of the case?  The officer was responding to a 911 call.  When he asked Gates to step outside, Gates became combative.  He insulted his mother and then went on a tirade.  After several attempts to calm Gates failed, Crowley arrested Gates for disorderly conduct.  I'm glad he did, Gates is nothing more than a man who lost control, then pulled the race card and tried to ruin Crowley's life.  I hope they release the tapes and Gates is humiliated.

Yes I read the police report, which contains Crowley's version of the events.  I'm assuming that Gates was acting a fool.  That doesn't matter to me.  The fact he was in his own house, proved it was his house, and hadn't broken any laws matter to me.

I think the cop acted appropriately when he responded to a reported break-in.  Asked the right questions.  Did what he was supposed to do, up to the point of arresting the guy.  Just a bad decision on his part.  The fact they immediately dropped the charges and the whole country is talking about it just further proves that arresting this guy was an error in judgment.

That helped fuel the fire, but the fact this guy is a prominent Harvard professor and it involves race allegations is what made this a story.  I hope it goes away.

I don't agree.  Crowley didn't know this guy was friends with the President.  He didn't know people knew him.  He was doing his job, and this idiot pulled the race card.

This thing is getting to be a stupidly big deal.....Barry needs to drop this, get past it and let it die. He doesn't know the facts and should be above this crap. He has all kinds of intel on both nKorea and Iran, and he doesn't say anything, this thing blows and he's out there flapping his gums immediatly.

That's fine, but thats not how it went.  Clearly you hear what you want to hear.  It's been shown over and over that Crowley was not in the wrong.  Hell, Obama just invited him to the white house for a beer.  The only thing Crowley is guilty of is arresting a man who was acting belligerent and disorderly and who happened to be a man of color with powerful friends.

Crowley was defended by several prominent African American members of Boston society.  All "Skip" had to do was show the officer his i.d and this whole situation would have been avoided.  Instead, he said things about the guys mother and started screaming like a mad man.  It's all on tape and it's going to come out. Again, this is not the case of an officer walking by and giving someone trouble for no reason.  Look at the facts and don't let YOUR bias cloud your judgement.  Crowley was responding to a 911 call to a home that had been broken into recently.  He asks the idiot resident to show his i.d and the guy gives him a bunch of shit and starts acting like a crazy person.  The same guy who was just seen by neighbors with another person breaking into the home.  I'm glad he arrested his ass.  Dope.  But when you need the cops...well, thats a different story   :-X

People in this country look for excuses to attack the cops  ::)

Any good officer would have locked this guy up for acting the way he did.  Boo hoo.

Barry should keep his mouth shut about this.  He has no knowledge of LE affairs and the president doesn't need to step in on such trivial manners when he can't run the country.

This seems like a trend for Obama, he needs to stay out of it, he's no longer campaigning. If this just played out, it would have fizzled on it's own, Obama gave it new legs...This can be used against him. Unless it's something real big very socail, where it affect  lot of people, then POTUS, whether he's black or white, shouldn't comment. Plus it gives the POTUS a certain vulnerability to the average citizen.

BTW, I supposed to go test drive a new M3 coupe tomorrow 8)
