I haven't heard of this version. Is there something different with the grip or the position of the pinky?
works best with the dumbells that your palm can fit around-when u pinch the dumbells in your hand instead of holding the handles, it forces your shoulder to set in the right position

I believe so!

I've did the regular version before with thick bar grips. Needless to say that the weight was lighter, but the mind-muscle connection was better.

Before you buy them, make sure they're not too wide for the DBs in your gym. My gym has multiple lines, but the handle length of my favorite one -the Hammer line- is too short.
My globe grips however, work fine with them and I def prefer them over the TB grips, but only for pressing movements.
