I'm not talking about doing rotator cuff exercises on a swiss ball ::)! Important answer and serious.....he more than likely tore his pec (the same way I did) by doing too much, when I tore my pec 2 1/2 years ago, I was on my 7th rep with 405, it wasn't just the weight but the combination of the break down, anotherwords....too many reps!

The typical client for these PERSONAL TRAINERS!!!!!! is a young professional person that maybe engages in some weekend warrior activity like playing basketball. It doesn't help them one bit. It was time better spent on building muscle using a classic routine.

Time is better spent building the body - not playing around on balls. There is no advantage in squatting on balls, doing sit-ups on balls, pressing on balls, or shitting on balls. It will not develop a superior physique, and it will not prevent injuries as I already proved. IN FACT - It's stupid, because you can't use as much weight if you're concentrating on maintaining your center of balance.

NOT PRACTICAL OR USEFUL FOR 99% OF THE POPULATION. WASTE OF TIME.

IT's A GIMMICK TO GET PEOPLE INTERESTED IN WORKING OUT SO THE PTs CAN MAKE MONEY OFF THE SUCKERS!

But you only develop "functional" muscle right? Because muscle developed through classic(proven) exercises, not pseudo-science is not functional. Bodybuilders are meatheads that don't develop functional muscles right? What a clown.  :)

Let me break this down.

1. I'm not you're typical "personal trainer"

2. If the "weekend warrior" plays on the weekend for example in a league, he obviously takes it seriously and needs the training. I have a few.

3. True, there is no advantage to squatting on a ball, but core work is a must, and yes sometimes on a ball is a must (core..rectus abdominus, intercostals, obliques, transverse abdominus, lower back.) for people who cannot do traditional movements and have to do indirect training.

4. The "average" person can careless about building a superior physique, they just want to be stronger, fit and healthy.

5. Funtional training is a must for people who cannot work with heavy weights like the elderly, children and adolesents and rehab clients.

6. And no, bodybuilders (at least National level and pro's) can care less about funtional muscle, although some (the smart ones) are adding it in their training. What proof?.....see how long an off season bodybuilder lasts in a college or pro combine or doing 2 a day training in the middle of summer!!

7. You cannot train an athlete like you would train a bodybuilder.....because BODYBUILDERS ARE NOT ATHLETES and the typical client is NOT A BODYBUILDER!!

The idea that free weights won't build stability or functional strength is simply laughable. Traditional free-weight exercises are by far the best way to develop functional strength, but nobody wants to do them because they're too difficult. It's really that simple.

Olympic lifters are some of the best all around athletes in the world, and you don't see them doing dumbbell flyes on a pink ball. Try telling these guys that they need to work on their "functional strength". The fact is, anyone who can military press 225 and squat 500 will easily outperform these Swiss Ball clowns in any test of functional strength.

So let me get this straight......

Using a swiss ball IS BENEFICIAL if you meet the following criteria(according to you):

A. You must not care about building a superior physique, but you must care about being   stronger, fit, and healthy. This will be accomplished by lifting 5 pounds on a swiss ball.

B. You must be elderly, in rehab, or a child.

C. Core work is a must for people that can't do traditional movements.

D. If you are a weekend warrior that plays in a league - you will find pressing light weight on a swiss ball more beneficial than free weights.

Another Gem: "Bodybuilders can care less about functional muscles."

So when Ronnie Coleman deadlifts 800 pounds he isn't using functional muscles, but when a weekend warrior shoots hoops "for example in a league" THAT MAN, that weekend warrior IS using FUNCTIONAL MUSCLES!!!! WOW This makes sense. Thank you!!! I knew he must have been doing it through the core muscles he developed through extensive use of the "swiss ball" lol.

HAHAHAHA!!! Exactly.

As someone stated earlier. This whole gimmick started because PTs wanted to find a way to save money and gym space because real equipment is more expensive than props.

And on top of that, it gives people with short attention spans a reason to get in the gym.

All in all, it's a win win situation for the PTs. They know they're wasting people's time, but they don't give a shit because they want the money!

True, but any trainer can teach the basics, it takes an experianced trainer to go beyond the basics and take your client to the next level. To be a great trainer your clients should be complete..meaning, not only the primary muscles should be strong and developed but also stabilizers as well as conditioning. Any trainer can just take money and persuade their client that their making progress.

Yeah...no shit  ::)

MELTDOWN

I'm gonna break it down to you, Mansonvier. Basically, there are two groups of people who workout in gyms:

1. Hardcore guys, who really want to grow bigger muscles.

2. All the rest.

People who this type of exercises, like that idiotic homosexual you showed on one of your posts, belong to the second group of people. Guys who go into gyms to grow big muscles share some characteristics:They purposefully do the hardest exercises, they use mostly free-weights, take pride in taking sets to failure and pay strict attention to form.

For instance, I'm the ONLY guy, at my gym, who regularly dead-lifts. I can dead-lift five plates a side, for up to ten reps. I'm the only guy who doesn't use crappy form in the last reps of a set, when it starts to really demand something from you. Why? Because it is exactly those last reps that make your muscles grow. You know what? It works. I have weighed over 300 lbs when I was saucing, but even now that I'm sauce-free, I still weight 260 lbs-at a height of 6'5.

Isn't the humiliation I delivered to you, on the Y board, enough to make you shut your cun t up? I know that it's impossible for a bitch like you to close that sperm bank you call a mouth, but please try. Seriously. How much more do you want me to rape you, with my massive wit(no, sorry, I'm not going to rape you with my massive dick, 'cause homosexuality disgusts me. Sorry to disappoint you, but I'll rape you only with my wit)? I mean, I have humiliated your mommy and all the other female members of your family, including yourself, yet you still come back for more? Damn, girl, I didn't know masochism was one of your sex fetiches! How slutty you are! I guess it's as they say:like mother, like daughter! ;D

Speaking of strengh, I BET I'm much stronger than you. Not stronger, but much, much stronger. If you have read what what I wrote, you'd realized I dead-lift ten plates for over ten reps. I have done as much as seventeen reps, with that weight. My single is seven plates a side, which doesen't put me that much behind Ronnie. I guess this is not your fault; crack-whores usually are usually illiterate and don't enroll their kids in school. Good bye, loser. ;)

Arthur Jones would have a heart attack seeing that squatting pic.

Your muscles know how to do one thing - produce force. The functioning aspect is a learned skill. Working out on a swiss ball will do only one thing - make you a better swiss ball lifter.  There are more safer and effective ways for building abdominal strength.

And regarding the elderly - how the hell is balancing on a swiss ball easier than doing a sit up?

it's not just balancing, I have a couple of elderly clients who suffer from degenritive back problem and cannot do direct low back exercises, using the ball helps strengthen their low back without causing alot of stress.

BTW, most of my athletes (Football players, etc) do train with heavy traditional compound movements, Bench, deads, hang cleans, squats, etc especially when getting ready for college and pro combines.

this is one of the funniest theads ever the pic of the guy squatting on a ball is really retarded. The swiss ball is one of the stupidest things ever the guy should use more weight and do it on the floor rather than risk injury.(to work stabalizers????) just use weight and stay off of the gay ball.

I think it is funny to hear all of the trainers talk about how useful the ball is i cant see any benefits. Athletes have lived many years without the use of the little ball. Most trainers are ripoffs they charge 20 dollars a hour to tell people what to do to get stronger and most of the ttrainers are not very big to begin with. I dont want someone training me who is telling me to use a ball rather than free weights it just dosent make sense. I will stick to what has been done for years and not this new age crap that all of these pts are using

The dude is a surfer, his training is relative to what he does.  Like someone said earlier, they couldn't even stand on the ball, much less squat on one.  Guess he isn't a surfer.

Amazing how closed minded some are.
