When I was in my thirties, I worked out in the basement of our home. I really liked doing pushups using three chairs. I'd put my feet one chair and one hand on each of the other chairs. What I liked about doing pushups like this was the extension at the bottom of the movement. I could really stretch my chest.

Unfortunately one time while doing this style push up, I over extended my left hand and managed to do some damage to it. It hurt like hell. I drove to emergency and they gave me some pain meds to get me through to the next day when I could see my regular doctor. When I woke up the following morning, my left hand was so swollen that it looked something like a cow's udder. When I saw the doctor, he determined that it was inflamed. He gave me an injection directly into my hand. The swelling eventually went down and then my hand looked skeletal. Apparently it had been so hot that it melted the what little fat one has on their fingers. After a week or so it looked normal.

I am not sure I ever tried these pushups again using three chairs. I have done them at the gym using two triangular shaped bars which elevated my hands thus allowing for extra stretch at the bottom of the exercise. With this equipment, my hands were parallel, palms facing each other and griping the bars so there was little chance of over extending them at the wrist.

There is nothing like hitting 20-25 pushups to pump up the pecs.

GREAT POST.. i have 2 push up bars i bought but i use 2 thick books but i find the traditional palms down works for me. itīs true though prime.. a parallel grip does help in pushing movements.

Hit the gym on Friday for a full body workout plus cardio. Had a daylong meeting today, so no gym time. I am loving using the elliptical for cardio because it makes my sciatica almost go away. Unfortunately, driving from my home in West Linn, OR to Salem, OR which is a fifty mile trip each way, aggravates the sciatic nerve. It is best when I can stay off my butt, which is difficult when one is driving.

I realize now that I did not state myself clearly when I said I drove 50 miles back a forth to Salem, yesterday. This drive was not to the gym, it was for a business meeting. Salem is Oregon's Capitol city. Some of my volunteer work is political in nature. Also the association I belong to is headquartered in Salem. The gym I belong to is about 4 miles from my home. Driving to the gym takes 10 minutes tops. If I would ride my bicycle there, I'd develop monster legs because it is all hills. I live on a hill and the gym is on another hill. That bike ride is not on my agenda just yet.

also saw on the news Baroness Thatcher has Died...some older Brits will know who she was. The first and only Woman Prime Minister in the UK and served 3 Terms i believe. She pumped a lot of Money into the Armed Forces but was against Trade Unions and i remember as a kid there was a lot of Riots. She will not be missed by the working man in the UK...or the Labour Party.

Quote
Thatcher, even in death, divides world opinion

Combative and determined to get her way, Margaret Thatcher divided opinion down the middle in life — and in death.

Many leaders lauded Thatcher for her steely determination to modernize Britain's industrial landscape, even at the cost of strikes and riots, and to stand beside the United States as the west triumphed in the Cold War versus the Soviet Union. Others saw a pitiless tyrant who preferred conflict to compromise.

She was a very powerful lady. Being working class myself, I cannot say I appreciated her views regarding labor unions. Fortunately, her political clout was in Britain and not in the U.S. We have plenty of our own politicos with her viewpoint, they are called Republicans.

Who knows, if Republicans get their way, we may be referring to some folks as Barons and Baronesses'.  How does Baron Romney sound, or how about Baroness Palin? -Stranger things have happened.

I'm scared to death that the USA is going to turn into Sweden because of Prez Nobama and his socialistic agenda!

Didn't post it when I got home yesterday, but had a great 90 minute workout including cardio yesterday. I think my stomach is actually beginning to look a little flatter. Maybe in a month or two my abs will be visible again....one can hope.

I got so excited about the minor improvements, I decided to groom. I took the hair off my back and trimmed the hair on my shoulders, arms and all down the front of me.

keep up the cardio too Jay. I think to really get in shape you need weights and Cardio. Flexibility too but you stretch as well. Itīs like a stool with 3 legs, lose one and it will topple. I have to admit i need to stretch more in my shoulder area.
