jay... ;D you are much younger than your age...cool.. ;D ;D

This may be thanks to having friends and family of all ages. My youngest grandchildren are both 15 years old, almost 16, this alone keeps an old fart like connected with youth and their interests. I have always held that age is just a number. Old people are not any wiser than young people, they just have more experiences, both good and bad.

i am hoping to get back to a 5 day split next week...i just love an arm day on itīs own. well the weekend is here and i will have a good rest. had a good Barbecue yesterday evening and a few beers...LOL got to be done.. ;D an old Army buddy was here and we talked into the early hours and got fairly drunk. i think i have convinced him to start walking as he is getting rather fat. First met him around 87 and he was very fit then. showed him getbig and he found it funny.. also showed him Jayīs picture and said look at that..he did say respect. Hope he does learn because he is now Diabetic.

My wife is dying from complications caused by diabetes. She first showed symptoms of the disease after our daughter was born. The doctors refer to this as gestational diabetes, meaning it is triggered by pregnancy. During this pregnancy, my wife actually lost weight. Unfortunately, not being one who was ever very diligent in taking care of her health, she ignored the disease for many years until she started having vision problems (diabetic retinopathy) which required surgery to fix. By this time she also had congestive heart failure and kidney disease, also caused by the diabetes.

Age and too much stress on her knees from being overweight caused severe arthritis in her knees requiring knee replacement surgery. Because of her weakened health she nearly did not survive the two knee replacement surgeries. However to other option would have been complete immobility which would have eventually killed her anyway.

Today, my beautiful wife walks using a rollator transport chair, mainly because she has a fear of falling, which she has done far too many times. She is on oxygen 24/7 for the congestive heart failure. Her thyroid is non functional and large, but she would not survive another surgery, so it cannot be removed. Her kidney function is at around 17 to 20% of normal. 15% or less requires dialysis to live. She sleeps around 16 hours a day. If she falls, she does not have enough strength to get up. Recently she spent over two hours on the bedroom floor before I came home and discovered her there. She does not know why she fell.

Because her energy levels are zip, she really cannot do much at all. We were hoping to go to Germany this summer for our son's 25th wedding anniversary, but she is not healthy enough for travel. I am retired now. One of the main reasons I retired when I did was because I needed to be home to take care of my wife.

It is interesting to consider that my wife never exercised or worried about taking care of her health. I made exercise a part of my life my whole life and my health is pretty darn good today. This is good because we'd be in an old folks home if both of us had poor health. When I said my wife is dying, I didn't mean we know when that will happen. It could be years from now. She could out live me. It just isn't much of a life for her.

taken after workout ,,,platzian lol,,,,lot of effort goes into my training,,,

These photos you've posted will be my inspiration for today when I work quads and maybe calves again if the soreness in my calves has subsided enough to punish them for a second time this week. Thank you for posting the photos.

Sad to here this Prime, all we can do is take one day at a time. You are a good person to stand by her and Karma will reward you down the road.

Friday's workout: Chest

Isolateral flat bench presses 4X10-4
Isolateral incline bench presses 3X8-4
Isolateral decline bench presses 3x8-4
Parallel bar dips on a weight assisted Nautilus machine 3X8-4
Nautilus pec deck 3X10-6
Nautilus super pullover 3X10-6

I started using the Isolateral or Hammer Strength machines for bench presses several years ago, because one cannot drop the weight on themselves if they get a cramp in their hands, like I do from having had carpel tunnel syndrome and arthritis. Another benefit is that you cannot compensate using your stronger side to support your weaker side like with a normal barbell. Of course, not having to balance the weight is a negative when it comes to developing supporting smaller muscle fibers.

Nautilus the old ones probably the best machines ever most had foot pedals so as you could past failure and do negatives. Hammer strength probably second best the rest pretty much suck.

Saturday workout: Quads and calves

Leg extensions 4X10-6@100-160
Calf raises toes on platform 4X8-15@160-220
Leg Press machine 5X6-2@200-600 added weight
Calf raise on leg press machine 5X10-6@200-350 added weight
Hack squats on Machine 3X6-4 @45-90 added weight
Seated calf raises 3X15-6@45-115

I know this isn't much poundage on anything, but remember this is my first week after about two years of occasional Nautilus only workouts. I was doing over 1,000lbs on the leg press before I slacked off. It took awhile for my knees to loosen up on the hack squat, especially the right one which is the leg where I have sciatica problems. The good news is that for the most part the sciatica isn't nearly as bothersome as it was prior to starting this routine this week. Although I said I might wuss out on calves today, I went ahead and did them. Soon I will have legs like you njflex. When that happens, I will post up photos of me in my skivvies too.  ;D

Next week my wife will be coming with me to the gym three days a week, because she is starting physical therapy at North Lake Physical Therapy, which is attached to the gym. Since her last fall, she has had ongoing pain in her leg. At first the doctor thought she'd broken something, but the x-rays showed no breaks of fractures. When we were at the doctor's on Thursday, I suggested that maybe she'd bruised her spine, which might be causing sciatica. The doctor agreed with my diagnosis (heck, I should have become a doctor). Since her ability to exercise is nil, maybe the physical therapy will help ease her pain. I dropped her off to do some grocery shopping across the street from the gym while I did my workout. They have motorized chairs/shopping carts. Grocery shopping is one of her favorite things to do.

I accused her of stealing my sciatica symptoms.  ;)

When I got to the last set, I was almost folded in half. Just to make sure I was getting really low, I did one set, which I did not include in the post, with no added weight, just to get a full extension. I just bought some new really hot looking turquois skivvies made by 2(X)IST, which should make my legs look incredible, however, I may have to pad the pouch to look like I am really hung, like you (no homo).
