New Hampshire could be a big win for Bloomberg

For all the breathless coverage, the New Hampshire Democratic primary is truly dinky — awarding only 24 pledged delegates, one percent of the 1,990 needed to win. That is even fewer than Iowa. It’s barely worth fighting for, except that, especially in the wake of the Iowa fiasco, New Hampshire will punch above its weight.

The first four contests, including Nevada, will award a total of 155 pledged delegates. If the candidates perform as predicted by today’s polls, Sanders will lead on the cusp of Super Tuesday with 34 delegates, followed by Biden (33), Buttigieg (25) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) (20). Activist Tom Steyer could pick up 10 delegates in South Carolina, where he has talked up policies like reparations that are particularly popular with black voters. Klobuchar could nab a few along the way.

It is important to remember that the March 3 contests dwarf the haul from the four early states. On Super Tuesday Democratic candidates, including, for the first time, Mike Bloomberg, will compete for 1,345 pledged delegates. The biggest states up for grabs are California, with 416 delegates, Texas, with 228, and North Carolina, with 110.

In California today, Sanders and Biden both have over 20 percent of the vote, with Bloomberg far behind at only 4 percent. But, with 800 staffers in the state, his huge ad spend, and his growing list of endorsements from more than 50 party officials in the state, Bloomberg is gaining ground fast. In Texas, he is only at 7 percent, but is quickly opening a slew of offices and, as in California, racking up endorsements. Biden and Sanders lead in North Carolina, where Bloomberg is beginning to run ads; one recent poll gave him 14 percent of the vote.

Don’t underestimate the power of limitless money.

Most voters think President Trump will win reelection, new poll finds
NBC News ^ | February 11, 2020 | by Melissa Holzberg

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Two-thirds of voters believe that President Trump will be re-elected in November, according to a new Monmouth University poll released Tuesday. Of those, 27 percent said they think Trump will "definitely" be re-elected, while 39 percent said they feel he will "probably" win again.

The poll also finds that just 11 percent of registered Democrats say their party's eventual nominee will "definitely" beat Trump, while 38 percent said "it is more likely than not" that President Trump will win.

Democratic voters also raised concerns about the party's nominating schedule. Twenty-six percent of Democratic voters said they felt that having Iowa and New Hampshire go first in the contest "makes it less likely" that the party will "nominate the best candidate for president." And that's the argument that some candidates, like Biden, are making on the morning of the New Hampshire primary contest.

They should round the 11 percent that think Trump is going to "definitely lose" and take them to the loony bin.

Bernie vs Bloomberg.

That's the fight right there, isn't it?

I heard the former NY mayor is willing to drop about 2 billion on this race.

As much as I abhor Bernie and everything he stands for, it does sort of seem to be a David vs. Goliath struggle.

Small dollar donations and a significant groundswell of grass roots leftists supporting Bernie versus this uber-rich billionaire who is outright trying to buy an election.

Andrew Yang Ends His 2020 Presidential Bid

Andrew Yang, the businessman turned presidential aspirant whose bid for the Democratic Party’s nomination became a quirky, enchanting, then politically potent phenomenon, announced Tuesday that he will end his campaign.

Yang had been hoping for a fourth-place or better finish in the Granite State, but early returns suggested that he would fall short of those expectations and the decision was made to drop out rather than continue to drain the campaign of resources. His exit from the race leaves only one candidate of color in the primary field: Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a Samoan-American.

“I’m a numbers guy and if we are below a threshold where we are going to get delegates here in New Hampshire, if we are unlikely to hit that threshold in Nevada and South Carolina, it doesn't seem like we are actually furthering the goals of the campaign by staying in the race longer,” Yang told The Daily Beast in an interview on Tuesday evening. “I’m not someone who wants to take people’s donations, support, time and dedication if I don’t think we have a chance to win or advance our goals in the right direction.”

Yang never became a serious threat to win the party’s nomination. But the strength of his bid surprised national Democrats and raised questions—and tantalizing possibilities—for how the party could restructure its approach.

A newcomer to politics, Yang spent much of the early part of the campaign appearing on podcasts and embracing Internet meme culture to expand his popularity. His platform of giving Americans $1,000 every month as a form of fending off transformational economic trends like automation, along with his demand that tech companies pay people billions of dollars for monetizing their data, proved to be a major draw. And while several establishment candidates struggled to hit the donor threshold numbers needed to qualify for the debates, he exceeded them with ease.

The weeding out process continues. If you think about it, we are just seeing the worse versions of the "better" candidates drop off today.

Steyer is a worse version of Bloomberg....and clueless.

Although interesting to listen to..Yang is a worse version of Bernie and was never exposed for not being some sort of whiz kid. He's not a billionaire tech guy as was inferred...not even close. Come back in 10 years when you've done more.

Tucker just said Tom Steyer has dropped out

Looks like Tucker is wrong.

Tom Steyer: 'I'm not dropping out. That's ridiculous.'
Speaking to reporters in Reno, Nevada, Democratic presidential candidate Tom Steyer says he's not dropping out of the 2020 race and is looking forward to the Nevada caucuses.

It is pretty funny that the Democrats, who go on and on about diversity and racism, how have as their front runner the senator from the second whitest state in the country, Vermont, with the whitest being right next-door, Maine.

I’m familiar with that neck of the woods. If you’ve ever seen the crowd at a Phish concert, that’s Vermont in a nutshell. Ain’t no brothers in attendance.

I went ahead and deleted that post.

Sounded ridiculous when I heard it considering how well he is polling in South Carolina.

Culinary Union says Bernie Sanders would end its health care (“NV political force”)
KTVZ ^ | Feb 11, 2020 | CNN

The influential Culinary Union distributed a flier that says Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders would “End Culinary Healthcare” if elected president of the United States.

The flier, obtained by CNN on Tuesday, outlines where the leading 2020 Democratic candidates stand on health care, immigration and “Good Jobs.” It singles out Sanders as the candidate who will end the union’s health care among the top six Democratic candidates, pointing to his “Medicare for All” plan.

The release of the flier by the union, which is a force in Nevada politics, comes just a week and a half away from the Nevada caucuses. The organization says it represents 60,000 hotel and casino workers in Nevada and provides health insurance coverage for more than 130,000 people. Its organizing abilities have helped deliver the state for Democrats for years. The union has not endorsed a candidate in the 2020 election...

“Some politicians say … ‘You will get more money for wages from the company if you give up Culinary Health Insurance.’ Those politicians have never sat at our bargaining table or been on a 24/7 6 years, 4 months, and 10 days strike line – like we have to make an employer pay for healthcare,” it reads.

“We will not hand over our healthcare for promises,” the flier reads.
