I was sitting in the 14th row dead center for prejudging. I wanted Flex to win but it was obvious Ron was better. He killed flex from the back, The first time he hit a back shot the place went nuts and the show was his.

Well ND, if the judges felt that Dorian deserved to win in 1994  and 1997  , then why do you have a problem when Ronnie wins? Simple question.  You always point out his guy; I agree he has one.  However, when he is flexing the compulsory poses, his waist looks better than Yates except in the ab/thigh.  He has smaller obliques, and with his superior size his taper is better.  Thus, if you like small, tight waists, why do you Yates.  His waist is blocky and got continually larger as his career went along.  He looked really good in 1992/1993; I never have disputed that.  However, he was vastly overrated after.  Nasser killed him from the front.  He was equal from the side.  From the back, it was all Yates.  Thus, it probably should have been a lot closer than the scorecard showed.  You bitch about Ronnie constantly, but you have never shown a pic when he has finished flexing in a compulsory pose that reveals the gut.  Sure, in the transition when he is breathing it may stick out, but when he finally nails the pose it is no longer evident.  BTW, Yates in 1994 was a trainwreck; he looked atrocious.  I am sure if the judging criteria are supposed to present now were in effect and followed back then, he would have lost soundly.

Back to Gunter.....Hulsketer You dont really comprehend what a 50lb weight advantage looks like until you see the 2 people standing next to each other in person. Its a HUGE difference. Gunter was ripped at the 2002 Olympia ....no bloat what so ever. He had striated pecs, striated glutes, possibly a pair of the biggests biceps ever, ect....

so to just gloss over a 50lb weight advantage in contest shape is ridiculous

50 pounds is huge no doubt. But Gunter when he won the 2002 SOS was probably 40 pounds heavier than Ronnie.

However, Ronnie was flat and in horrible shape compared to his 1998 outing.

I would argue that had Ronnie been in his 1998 condition (seperation, quality etc) Gunter would not have won in 2002, even with a 50 pound weight advantage.

The taper difference alone would be astounding -front and back - so the symmetry round would probably go to Ronnie.

The muscularity round would be close - Ronnie had far better quality, shape and detail, but the judges would probably be blinded by the size difference.

In terms of taper, and quality bodyparts, it would not be as close.

gunter had lots of good quality muscle, but his structural, shape and taper issues would be a problem against a near peak Ronnie in my opinion, even with 50 extra pounds of muscle.
