I was in the middle of a set of deadlifts, nothing over the top, 365 for 8 when I notice this 150lb turd loading 135lb's on the bench behind me. He hops around for a couple of minutes and then jumps under the weight. I was doing a bit of stretching when I noticed the bar was in a slow downward movement, I thought maybe he is doing a negative, but then it just dead stopped on his chest. Pause, maybe? After about 10 seconds he raised his head, looked at me and asked if "hey man can I get a spot" to which I pointed at my lower back and told him I couldn't risk injury. Some 110lb desk worker chick finally wrestled it off him. It was pretty damn comical.
So I finished my 3rd set of 365 and gave him an old-school head nod greeting and left.

hahaha yeah great story bro. im bout to head to the gym....but before i gotta tell you about yesterday at my gym..hahaha...i walk in and every single fucker in there is wearing a wife beater and a bandana. no joke. lol. most of em are doing pretty sissy shit, like benching 135, and half squatting 225 for two reps. but then....this ops it..a man walks in about 500 lbs and 5'10''..the mother fucker is wearing all sweats. he does two sets of concentration curls cheating his ass off with 1 25 lb dumbell, then gets up strips off his sweats to reveal mc hammer workout and starts shadow boxing like a motha fucka yelling like hes in the middle of squatting 5 plates or somethings...he proceeds to do this for about 10 minutes till he finally picks up his sweats off the florr, throws them oevr his shoulder and walks out. the classic tough man head nod as he leaves. LOLOL.

But, another gym story similar to yours: The other day in the gym, a pair of obvious newbs come in to the weight room after some basketball (they were carrying a bball so don't know if they were actually playing or what). They load the BRUTAL 135 on the bar......and then proceed to PSYCHE each other up by........slapping each other in the FACE! I mean, one would go for 6 reps, get up, and then proceed to slap the other one prior to his set.....
This Weider principle should probably reserved for the Advanced trainers ;D

135 isn't a lot but it pisses me off when people are consistiently lifting way more than they're capable of and always need a spot. A spotter should spot or even give you a lift but spotting someone shouldnt' turn into a second work-out.

Reminds me of weight training class in high school. Some bball player asked me for a spot, he said he was going for 5 reps. He was on some program which calculates what you should lift on a certain day for your max. Well obviously he had gave himself a higher max than he really could do, because on the first rep he couldnt get it by himself. by the third rep im diong all of the weight, i thought he was gonna do the obvious and rack it up. He tries to get another one, im tryin to help him my back is about to break, so im like fuck it. Two other kids come up from the sdies and get it off him. Ands up gettin in my face about me not spotting him, i was like Im not doing all 5 of your fuckin reps for you are you fuckin kidding me or somethign. ANyway, teacher comes over breaks us up. Dumbass idiot. Ego lifting is stupid

In reality, it takes very little effort to help someone when they get stuck on the bench, unless he's attempting a weight which is way beyond his abilities. My dad has multiple herniated discs from doing heavy DEADLIFTS, and he has no trouble spotting me when I get stuck with heavy weight.

At Golds in Vegas it's called the Womens gym which is off to the side. This is where these p*ssies should be lifting and pressing the freshly windexed chrome dumbells. Barbells are out of the question since the dumbells are easy to dumb off on the ground. I think there are a lot of mirrors for AB & TRI-SHOOTERS!!!

the point is not whether you may "pull a hammie", but (1) why some people are so stupid to use (tiny) weights they cannot handle, (2) why not ask for a spot in advance. i am more than happy to spot if somebody asks and i do not care about the tiny weight as not long ago 135 lbs crushed me too. but i never got to the point, whether it was 135 or 315, when i could not finish a rep. when i am not sure, i ask for a spot or do not go for another rep. it's that simple.
one exception to the above: several times i got crushed under a weight out of curiosity as i wanted to see how hard it is to get from under the bar myself when nobody's around. this gives you extra confidence that it is not a big deal, well, at least up to a certain weight. same with squats, when i was training a friend, i made him go deep down and drop the weight (usually 95 lbs) so he could not get scared shitless in the future when the weight gets heavier. some folks are too "shy" to do a dynamic movement with their body so that the bar does not hit your spine, and they are also too afraid of the noise they will make. fvck that. show these skinny bitches right now how to handle light weights before it is too late and they seriously injure themselves.

a while back ago, when i was still struggling with 60s on the bench press, this big black dude came to me asking for a spot (it was a sat morning and there was nobody else around). he was repping 120s on the incline for 12 and his elbows were thicker than my legs. that was really cool.

The other day there were these two guys who looked like high school kids. each was about 150 about 5'8". they were pressing 135 which wasn't too bad for how they looked. They thought they were strong and i was wearing a zipped up thing and i'm 5'11" 180 so I don't look like any kinda beast. Anyway since I have problems I'm always looking at people in the gym trying to size them up to see if they're bigger than me. Of course I knew those 150 guys were smaller than me but I've got muscle dysmorphia so sometimes I'll see someone 20 pounds lighter than me and think they're bigger. They thought I was looking at them because I was impressed with their strength. I was doing a few sets of leg press and was pyramiding up. my last set was with 3 plates of 100 and a plate of 45 on each side. The two of them just stopped to watch in awe... I felt good. ;D

I don't work calves... I'm blessed :) That incident was a while ago. 2 months. i just did squats today for the first time in like 3 months and I could only do 225 for 4 reps. my legs are definately weaker but not as weak as my lower back. the good thing is that when you are getting back into squatting your poundage goes up by 15 pounds every week.

Gibbler likes to warm up with sissy squats because he says that that defines the glutemus muscles much better then those lunges his personal instructor prescribed to him. Then for his real set he prefers to go for 4 really hard reps 225pounds around his waist but the real kicker is that he does them all with the squat suit around his neck for support after long and grueling setions Dr. Boninghisass, who wouldn't be "exhausted"?

wow, finally. Some real goals and real achievement's. Keep up the training gibber. I'm 5'11" my ideal would be around 200 ripped. (I'm currently close to 200 but my abs are a distant memory). My end of year goal is 285 bench, it's currently 235 for a few reps.)

I ended up getting a minor black eye.

The dumbess thing I did was put eye glass cleaner into my contacts case by accident and left my contacts there for the whole night. I put my contacts on in the morining and everything went blurry and my eyes got irritated. I still took the bus for one hour to go train at the gym. I literally couldn't see shit for the whole day.

Oh yeah, hurt like a bitch, was like getting punched but worst cause knuckles are softer than iron. I was trying to act like it didn't happen which is almost impossible when I could hardly even keep my eye open.
I forgot to mention that a few days later I went to my Dad's for Thanksgiving and he took some family pictures. To this day, he has one of me on the wall with a black eye (not bad, but a nice dark spot under my eye). LOL, I laugh at my dumb ass every time I see it.

I was in the middle of a set of deadlifts, nothing over the top, 365 for 8 when I notice this 150lb turd loading 135lb's on the bench behind me. He hops around for a couple of minutes and then jumps under the weight. I was doing a bit of stretching when I noticed the bar was in a slow downward movement, I thought maybe he is doing a negative, but then it just dead stopped on his chest. Pause, maybe? After about 10 seconds he raised his head, looked at me and asked if "hey man can I get a spot" to which I pointed at my lower back and told him I couldn't risk injury. Some 110lb desk worker chick finally wrestled it off him. It was pretty damn comical.
So I finished my 3rd set of 365 and gave him an old-school head nod greeting and left.
you should of taken 1 45 off and let the bar tip over if you're that paranoid about your back. It was irresponsible for that guy for trying the lift but you could of shown more class.

Using too much weight or not using collars is a pet peeve of mine. Guys that dont use them I guess they feel stronger?? I always use them. I give tips to any new guy i see doing something wrong in hopes that it will greatly benefit him. I always sought advice and took advice from experinced guys. Although sometimes you may tell one guy something and he will take it so personally like your attacking him or something. But maybe one day they may say he was right after all.

I made up my mind that the weight is not the boss of me and loaded 135 for 4 sets of 5 reps getting angry at it without a spot. It worked got stronger faster and now have done 275 for 6 reps. 5 reps was a great strength builder for me too. Two summers ago I spent my bench workouts doing 5 sets of 5 reps and my max went from 345 to 405 in 12 weeks. It felt awesome, and I only weighed 203 at the time.

I'm about to go to the gym and work back and shoulders again. My strength is kinda down from the cutting i did but my dumbell shoulder presses are at their strongest. 60's 6 good reps. When i work back first and at the end i do reverse pec deck followed by presses, followed by lateral raises it's making my shoulders look much better in a back double biceps. The posterior delts are finally coming up. I'm resting my 6 eggs, 2 packs of oatmeal, 4 oz milk shake before i go hit the weight hard. what kinda dumbells do you press superstar?
