There's only one way to build a great nation; promote and worship individuality but ensure that the "Group Synergy" is greater than its single individuals. We have idols and read Enquire and People mags all day but we also won't hesitate one second to forget ourselves and sacrifice for freedom, it's fucking cheesy but I feel it and live it every day. What does this shit has to do with bodybuilding?
Ask this: why do all terrestrial bodybuilders, fitness models come to America to make a living? because WE have an economy built around individuality and a media system to ensure its distribution and survival. While Europe is tight up with it's "let's make it all about socialism and make a mother lode State system" they forget that "individual" gratification is marketable and part of the Economy.
I just find it hypocritical that every chance they get they bash us Americans, but every opportunity they get they sell their cock pumps and flesh lights to get over here and be part of it.

They seem to forget that America remains the only nation in world history to have used nuclear weapons against civilian populations... and they did it twice!
America also killed quite a sizeable chunk of it's own population (approx: 1m) with their atmospheric nuclear testing... and that's before you get to their disatrous foreign policy.

The German, Russians, Japanese were all working on the bomb. The American, British, Canadian alliance just happened to do it first. Many people don't realize this but by being bombed twice the Japananese were given a way to honorably submit. They knew the war was lost but their code of honor would not let them surrender till they were totally defeated. They would have had to endure carpet bombings of their cities and an invasion force made up of the Pacific theatre allies and beaten to a pulp before they would have surrendered. Millions more would have died if not for the two atomic bombs being dropped.

They only had a nuclear pile bomb... (same with the Germans) it was a small runaway nuclear reactor style device and would only maybe take out 2 or 3 city blocks.
If anyone really had tested a proper nuclear weapon (Germans or Japanese) the Americans would have noticed.
I still reckon that at most, America was justified in maybe (just maybe) nuking the Japanese (or German) nuclear research facilities.
Using thermonuclear weapons against civilian populations is much less justifiable than say... hijacking planes to attack the country that betrayed you.

They had a choice and most realized life in USA as a well paid scientist was better than war torn germany. Look at the original NASA member list. All germans, right after WWII.

I don't know. With only 60 hours between blasts, it could have been they were trying to figure out what just happened to 100,000 people, and why everyone who arrived on the scene also died immediately.
Anyone with compassion for civilians would have given it more time between blasts. We intentionally took out civilians - we could have scortched the military district or taken out leadershp. Instead we went after women and kids (most of the men were at war). IMO we should have went after a military target, or detonated in an empty place.

I am not bashing the USA as all nations have their problems. But I state that the core of Europe is far more advanced in alternative energy, safer food chain, pollution controls - protecting the environment, and medical technology than North America.

I think it pretty much goes both ways, as you can see under the topic about marko savolainen, where BSB says "You're not american, therefore you're beneath me". Statements like that can be often read from various sites, be it getbig or youtube. I don't generally have anything against americans, but comments like that (BSB's) create an image of arrogant nation.

First off dipshit, it wasn't a thermonuke, it was a regular nuke. Thermonukes didn't come around until the 50's with the hydrogen, bright spot. Secondly, it was estimated that we would lose 500,000+ soldiers in an invasion of mainland Japan. So let's see, 500,000 American soldiers to a couple hundred thousand Japs. Makes sense to me.

Besides, the link i gave you that had stats about american knowledge of geography, is a survey that consists of several americans giving their answers to certain geographical questions. I bet 100 bucks anytime, that the similar survey amongst people in our country would give better statistics. At least everyone living here can locate their own country from world map, unlike americans are able to.

Thank you. Here in Finland, they start to teach us english on third grade, that means when we're 9 years old, and it's compulsory until the end of 9th grade. At the age of 13 we also start to have compulsory swedish lessons, and that also continues until we finish 9th grade. Besides those 2 languages, i'd say 70 percent (my estimate) chooses an extra language during 7th grade, usually deutsch or french, and continue to study it until they pass high school.

With all due respect Rob, I'd like to think we still have a tech edge. I received 4 patents in 2006 in nanotech manufacturing and devices, and I am selling these products to the far east. And, my company is just one of about 100 similar firms that I know of here in the USA. Don't write us off just yet ;D

American technology is terrific. But in the next decade, you'll have an entire generation of CHinese and Indian people turn 25, having grown up with the web and every advantage we have here.
Given their numbers, they will crush us on the macro level. It doesn't matter if 1 american is better than 1 indian, if they outnumber us 4 to 1.
Mfng is cheaper everywhere else now. Web makes most barriers to entry null and void. Tarriffs are gone, thanks dubya. It's going to be VERY bad in 20 years, when the CHILDREN of this foreign generation finish school. Hopefully we can make our dollars by then and retire.

I guess I have a different take on the impending doom ;) I currently compete against the Chinese in the sale of an industrial sensor. They can undercut my price by 50%. So, I developed a new product that replaces the old. I engineered that 50% out of it. Plus, the new one works better.
I received an order from a Chinese distributor for 10,000 of these a month. I guess I am winning this one.
BTW, these are not monolithic cultures having an us vs them mentality. I signed a distribution agreement with an Austrian firm to sell their product worldwide. Even in Austria. I asked the president of the Austrian firm why he didn't go with a European distributor. He said "you guys are better".
So I welcome the entire world getting better, smarter, faster, what ever. We will all compete to see who is the best. And I will continue to forge alliances with China, India, Russia, wherever. I get to know people worldwide who are good at what they do,and I love to work with them. I don't care where they are from. They all bring great things to the table.
And i don't need tariff protections. The Chinese have them, and my Chinese customers tell me how they get around them. Lets open the market across the globe.
I'm not ready to retire anytime soon!

Once your idea is reversed engineered and second-generationed to a local firm, you have to come up with a better idea to stay in business. The ability to copy, duplicate faster/cheaper means you cannot create this SUSTAINABLE competitive advantage. You can outwit them once. But you have to KEEP doing it. And when they're ganging up 10 to 1 for the same price, they will overcome eventually, despite being inferior 1 on 1.

I am not backing down from stating that probably several 18-24 yr-olds in America don't know alot about world geography...But like most statistics it all depends on where they were taken...Even when 'they' say quotes like "Statistics prove that so and so is this....Based on a survey" It is very very easy to come up with your own statistics based on numbers presented, but you cannot consider that a true figure unless a majority of 18-24 yr-olds were actually required to take the survey and not just offered to take it.....

Like I said, I speak for myself. I was born in this country, and I'm sorry to say I wouldn't know of anyone who fits this percentage in your survey. Nor am I 18-24, so I cannot speak intelligently about the map knowledge of that demographic. I would say it has more to do with the generation than of the country itself.

Having lived in Europe and North America, I can tell things are not as black and white as many people here assume. Now kids, lemme tell you how it is:
- yes, there's trash in europe, but U.S is the white trash capital of the world
- if you want class and style, certain parts of Europe win hands down. Other than couple of cities,U.S. it's mostly a suburb or trashy cities
- there are lots of brilliant people in U.S., something people outside U.S. don't seem to realize. Having said that, in ignorance department, stupid americans are legendary, and not for no reason
- U.S. is a great place to make money. Extreme capitalism makes it possible, but brings another problems such as homelessness. It's a very selfish society in that sense, but effective when it comes to making money

For example, we have free dental and health system for everyone. And if you think that your country is the only one helping and donating other countries under crisis, think again. We also give our part of donations and help. Of course the donations are smaller, but in relation to the size of our country, they're as valuable.

The only reason 'america' is a free conutry is because of Europes infighting over the last couple of centuries. Personally i feel Britain should have teamed up with Hitler and conquored the globe. I've always become at least conversational in the language of whatever country I'm living in. When ever I moved away I almost always forgot the language though. so far I've learned and forgotten Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. I learned German in the two years I was in England as our school competed in Germany often, and I still manage to converse with the exchange students at my school. I'll tell you though, the most difficult language to learn has been this damn backwoods Arkansas-twang crap.

I would say Japanese from my native English speaker perspective. I learned Italian when I was about 9 and it wasn't to too difficult, it definately took some practice. Spanish came veeery easily after that because it's so similar to Italian, all I had to do was learn the small differences and I was good to go. German I found was the easiest since it's so similar to English. Once I had the syntax and grammer rules memorized, it was a matter of learning vocabulary. Japanese was the most difficult probably because I was only 6 and had just really become fully fluent in my first language of English. I can't read, write, or speak them, but I can understand bits of French and Russian as my mother speaks the first and my father speaks the second.

A larger number of anything would always be a factor when determining average anything. Finding the average of 100 different numbers is going to be a lot closer than the calculated average of only 25.

The only thing you're arguing the point I've made is the normal distribution, which wouldn't come into play in a situation with as many outstanding variables as this. Aye, most people use poor grammer when writing because they want to, not because they're dumb. Heck, a whole language has evolved out of spelling and phrasing things unusually, l33t, 1337, or whatever you wish to call it. Americans aren't stupid, not even close, but the emphasises put on the things taught to them usually places the focus more on themselves than on other cultures and most don't really care as what happens outside of their own country rarely effects them immediately.

They really are a lot like Americans but on average seem to be more interested in what happens outside their borders and less interested in violence. I've had many a pleasant conversation with a Canadian about world events and the like, and after the Greeks and Italians they are probably the most hospitable people I've met.

Let's see. So you're saying that I started bashing America, and this started the whole debate. Umm, no. First, I read about Finland been bashed under topic about marko savolainen, without even ONE comment from finns bashing America first. So, what i did? Defended my country. Yes, i did it under that other topic, and when i saw that the same "You're not american, therefore you're beneath me" (QUOTE FROM BSB) trend is going on under this topic, i wrote a comment. And in my first comment under this topic i didnt bash america, i said that bashing probably goes both ways, and with that comment admitted that europeans bash america, AND VICE VERSA.
After that, my country was bashed several times, finally i was asked what contributions finland has ever made, and i answered to bashing with a comment "certainly not killing thousands of innocent people". Hope this helps!

As you said, with the bad comes the good. Certainly we dont have such contributions as killing thousands of innocent people as your country does. Then again we have managed ourselves very well. For example, we have free dental and health system for everyone. And if you think that your country is the only one helping and donating other countries under crisis, think again. And that the "My country is better than yours"-attitude is pretty arrogant/ignorant. Yesterday i argued about 2 hours with him when he claimed that for country with 5 million people, it is easier to get higher AVERAGE IQ than for country with 300 million people. His best argument was: "If there's 10 people in small country with IQ of 110, surely it has more effect than if there's 10 people with IQ of 110 in big country :D He just wouldn't understand what average means :D After couple of hours he admitted being wrong :P

I bet most of them think Amsterdam is a country of it's own, The Netherlands is just a town in Michigan, and Holland is a place where folks walk on wooden shoes, oh brother. ::)

Like I had said before there are very many ignorant Americans(we even make fun of ourselves), but it doesn't change the fact we are the strongest country...Everyone always takes shots at the best in attempts to tear us down in some way...If there were a European country as strong as America then it would be taking criticizing shots also(and some do)...Same things happens around the world to anyone that has a position of leadership...The only thing is that I live in America and have the right to free speech to openly criticize anyone...Several countries cannot claim this...I personally don't have anything against Europeans...I did have a problem with Finland being directly compared to America though...

Well sir Realist, for how much longer do you think China will continue with financing (loans) the USA? With the devaluation of the Dollar the Chinese will choose to stop that, and believe me it's just a matter of time. It will happen.
And when it happens, mighty America will be in major trouble. America and it's citizens will have great debts, not being able to change that shortly.
It doesn't matter for China, because they will follow the advice of Henry Ford, and pay their workers a salary, high enough to buy the products that are made in China. Chinese economy will grow.

I have to dissapoint you on this one. I've been twice in NYC, once in florida and once in south america, venezuela. How many times have you been in Europe?
Many more times then you have been to the states. Everyone goes to New York and Florida from Europe I have traveled to many places around the world. London, Greece, Luxembourg, Dublin, Clontarf Ireland, Naples, all over Italy, Aruba, some of the Carribean islands, and France. My 68 year old father is a Italian Immigrant. My whole family is from Italy.

See... I understand that people in other countries may or may not have a certain opinion on a topic... I do not group everyone in France together, nor the UK, Russia, Germany, nor any other country.

Cut bmacys some slack. ;D English is far different from other languages. Most languages have verb conjugations and feminine/masculine nouns, while English really doesn't. Although it's kinda akward that someone who claims glorious italian heritage wouldn't know a simple fundamental of the language. Shows you why certain european members of getbig get so agitated with certain american members refering to themselves as something they're not.
Many of my cousins are the same way in that they want to associate themselves with an exotic culture, but they don't know the first thing about the culture of their parents and it's pretty pathetic to watch them makes fools of themselves.

The fact that my own father spent half his life in a different country, then immigrated to North America, does not give me a better perspective on how different cultures work outside of the States? I listed all the foreign countries I have traveled to, and the different perspectives I have experienced. I Assume you are telling the truth also. That said, I have been to far more foreign places then you have. Not to mention, you visited NYC and Florida. Tourist land USA. Hardly "typical America". I spent time in many places that tourists do not go. As well as many places they visit all the time. Paris, Athens, etc etc.
Nope, with "there you go" i was referring to the fact that americans are descendants of europeans, and still bashing europeans as much as they can.
Anyway, you listed all the foreign countries you've been to, i listed the places i've been to in America. If you want to know all the foreign countries i've been to (i really don't know what you're gonna do with that information), i'm more than happy to give you the list. Here goes: three times in Sweden, France, 3 times in Germany, twice in Holland, twice in England, three times in Thailand, China, Venezuela, twice in US (as i said before), Estonia, 14 times in Spain, Portugal, Latvia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Switzerland, 6 times to Denmark.

These people are certainly jealous as I do not see any other motives for their hate. I mean it's one thing to hate Bush, but to say we're this or we're that is blatant hate against the american people.
If you've read the messages under this topic, you should know by now that:
1. I have said several times, that in general i do not have problem with americans
2. I said that comments like "You are not american, therefore you are beneath me" (written here by BSB) gives you an image of arrogant
people.
3. I did not start writing here to bash america, i started writing here to answer to all those messages bashing europe, and especially finland
under the topic about a finnish bodybuilder. From there on, conversation has gone to comparing america and europe. In my very first
comment under this topic, i quoted Alex23 and his first comment. I said that "i guess that it (=the bashing) goes both ways".
So, does those comments make me sound that i write here because i'm jealous of not living in america? Hardly...

I don't do business with corporations I have issues with... Take for instance Wal-Mart... I hate Wal-Mart and their practices, so I don't shop there.
There was time when things at Wal-Mart were carrying "Made in America", now they do not... I don't shop there anymore... plus, their idea of destroying the small business owner with the supercenter is disgusting.

Every bit the capitalist he was... he was fundamentally opposed to it, because he realized that when you run people out of jobs, they can't buy goods... if you don't make product in America, there is nothing to generate revenue.
The brightest people on the planet understand this... Apparently some "capitalists" don't.... They feel that anyone who is "for" things being produced in America is against capitalism. Funny... I would have thought that there would be nothing more capitalistic than keeping normal middle-class people employed by creating a product and bring revenue to this country. Capitalism is about making money... not just for one or two people... a government can not remain stable if everyone doesn't make money.
As a matter of fact, I would say that when only a small group of people control all money, that is extremely close to communism.

For me, my understanding goes up when I read & write it. The spoken word goes by too quickly for me, and with the various pronunciations due to different regional dialects, it sometimes makes my head spin. It takes me an hour to sift through the dialect to get to the actual word. It's like the guy from London England, trying to understand a guy from NewFoundland, or West Texas. I work with a bunch of guys from West Texas, and man oh man, sometimes I really have to concentrate just to understand what they're saying. As for the Newfy's, ...I need subtitles.

Actually, I average about 2 hrs work a day ...that is... when I actually do decide to do some work.

I work with people from all 50 states, ...but it's the West Texans that I notice the most because I have so much difficulty understanding them when they speak. {lol}
I work with many foreign distributions all over the world who only speak a very broken English,
but I find it even easier to understand them, than the West Texans.
