I did 225 x 20 at a massive 185. I have no doubt that a tubby, 280 lb steroid aided guy who lifts all the time can do 50.

Now I have done 515 on a flat bench raw and have done 46 reps with 2 plates and not locking out (but still good), would have done 36-38 locking out. I did do 65 reps once with 185 though

Yeah some ppl are better at higher reps Esp. if they learn how to drop and bounce the reps. personally I never did more than twenty or so even at my biggest, but I go slow and pause each rep on my chest.. Nfl style bounces for five inch reps don't impress me but even then fifty plus is a LOT and more than some weak fat oilbag could do

I know a guy who did 52x225 at a charity event a few years back. Touch & go but no bouncing and full reps... he was one of the best benchpressers in Europe at that time and was a heavyweight.
I doubt that cswol can beat that but even if it's half reps still impressive but would rather see him doing 30 full reps instead - which would still be an amazing feat of strength.

The NFL combine record is 51 reps according to Wikipedia (Justin Ernest in 1999; never heard of him). I can't find a video of it.
Here is Stephen Paea doing 49 reps a couple years ago.

Not sure if there even is an official record for 225 for reps. Would have to set some rules first though because there is a huge difference between half reps and bouncing and touch&go full reps.
The guy I mentioned did not train specifically for this challenge, it was actually the first time he had ever tried benching 225 for as many reps as he could (well except for the times when 225 was close to his 1RM / his regular training weight .. but that's gotta be like 20 years ago). I'm sure a guy like this who is just a great benchpresser and a heavyweight could easily get up to 70 or even more reps if he trained with this goal in mind. It makes a big difference if you're usually training in a low rep range or if you're doing high-rep sets. Not only the muscle fibres have to be thick and strong but also the energy/ATP/glycogen storage has to be large enough (sarcoplasmatic hypertrophy) as well as the ability to quickly remove the lactic acid that builds up.. it's kinda like the difference between training for 100m or 400m.

Love the comments from those permabulkers who look like shit and like a walking heart attack... calling everyone who is lean "twink" just because they lack the willpower to diet down and if they did most would realize they don't have that much actual muscle on them. Was laughing about some of the comments in the men's physique("bikini") thread ... most of the guys in that division are certainly not small or swimmers but actually carry quite a bit of lean muscle and are training just as hard as most other larger bodybuilders but they just use less drugs.

I look similar to some of the guys in that physique division and while I might not look like a meathead with clothes on I'm certainly not small by any means. I don't get asked if I "swim alot" or do pilates but people instantly consider me a bodybuilder - which I'm not really comfortable with anymore. When asked I just say I lift weights or do powerlifting because bodybuilding has such a bad image.. and that's well deserved if you take a look at most bodybuilders. Zero athletic ability and all abouts the looks ... nope that's not for me anymore. I prefer being strong and fit with functional power and endurance.. the body will come with it anyway. No need to be that big anyway except if you wanna attract schmoes.

what many of you dont realize is when you have been lifting since you were 12 years old on the weights in the local highschool football weight house, somewhere along the way you realize that the mind controls the muscles, it all starts in your mind, if you learn how to program and train the mind you can achieve almost anything you want, as long as you are building your skeletal system and muslces and they are big and strong enough to handle the programming done in your mind, then something like benching 225 50 reps can become a regular thing........why........ ....its because you have programmed your mind and trained your muscles to perform the tasks, many of you who dont lift alot or lift alot, if you dont realize that it all begins in the mind, and the mind-muscle connection is the basis for growth and improvement, until you use your mind in the gym, your body will never respond or look like you want it to, thats what pumping iron is about, learning the intricacies and trials it takes to build the body, yeah im 38, my knees hurt from years of heavy squatting, i would be lucky to squat 500 one time, but i still have leg size and still know how to use my mind to build the leg, its not like my upper body, but at the end of the day if your still making progress and strength and size are going up, you are on the right track, i ran into a lady she said her husband is 69, lifetime iron pumper, has beat cancer 4 times, and i told her his mind power and strength from pumping iron all those years probably had something to do with him pulling through 4 times.

Nobody in the entire world can do 55 reps with 225 if they are lock-out- pause- touch chest- pause-locket-out.... NO ONE,.. the lactic acid will build up after 30 seconds, that is why they have to be fast reps and no pause. They can still be 3/4 reps but as soon as you stop pausing it is about time not reps.

Great post. When I did my 40 reps, the main thing that actually stopped me was the pain. It starts burning very badly and gets to the point where you just have to quit.

Nobody has broke 50 reps at the NFL combine in years. This is very hard to do if you do full reps. I will doubt you have achieved this until you post the video cswol. I would bet that your range of motion is very short, half rep style.

I don't do lockout reps I go down as far as my rom will allow me without tearing my chest off, and that's about all the way to touching my chest, and I do full rep to the top, I just hit 52 reps yesterday for the homey, most of you don't realize many people can do 50 reps, and one guy said at 40 he begins to hurt can't go on, many factors here he doesn't have the stamina and conditioning I have, he may not be as experienced and may not have spent hours in the gym doing totally insane workouts with heavy weights and not Enuff hard grueling workouts with hundreds of repititions to achieve the threshold past 40 for himself, yesterday was the best set I ever done as far as solidness and rhythm, a month ago I did 53, but it wasn't as good as yesterday's 52 at a solid pace and reps

ya it really is not about proper form per se it is about speed hence lack of proper form assuming the strength is already there.
For example take 3 guys- 585 benchers (raw) and take 3 guys- 675 benchers (raw) and get all of them to do 225 for reps then combine the total of the 3 585 bencher and then combine the total of the 675 benchers and the reps will be the exact same.
At this point it is no longer about strength but about the lactic acid stopping you at dead hault.

I am still competing and currently just a bit off my peak. Compete in 275 or 308 depending if I'm lazy with my diet ;D Best raw comp was just a tad under 623. Right now I am in the 600-615 range which is probably where I will stay or continue to drop. Got age starting to kick in.

I don't do lockout reps I go down as far as my rom will allow me without tearing my chest off, and that's about all the way to touching my chest, and I do full rep to the top, I just hit 52 reps yesterday for the homey, most of you don't realize many people can do 50 reps, and one guy said at 40 he begins to hurt can't go on, many factors here he doesn't have the stamina and conditioning I have, he may not be as experienced and may not have spent hours in the gym doing totally insane workouts with heavy weights and not Enuff hard grueling workouts with hundreds of repititions to achieve the threshold past 40 for himself, yesterday was the best set I ever done as far as solidness and rhythm, a month ago I did 53, but it wasn't as good as yesterday's 52 at a solid pace and reps
I have been trying to keep myself from being a dick lately, but I have to say that with today's technology there is SOMEONE with a phone that can video tape it. I am going for some 1rm on my olympic lifts on Saturday....I bet I have them up before you. People who stall with video taping things just remind me of the old AOL days when people claimed they look like something...then you say upload a pic and they say "I can't, my scanner is broke". Looking back, seems that scanners were highly defective.
1) You won't post a video because you can't do what you claim
2) Even if you magically post something you KNOW that your reps are NOT what you claim

Nobody in the entire world can do 55 reps with 225 if they are lock-out- pause- touch chest- pause-locket-out.... NO ONE,.. the lactic acid will build up after 30 seconds, that is why they have to be fast reps and no pause. They can still be 3/4 reps but as soon as you stop pausing it is about time not reps.

what many of you dont realize is when you have been lifting since you were 12 years old on the weights in the local highschool football weight house, somewhere along the way you realize that the mind controls the muscles, it all starts in your mind, if you learn how to program and train the mind you can achieve almost anything you want, as long as you are building your skeletal system and muslces and they are big and strong enough to handle the programming done in your mind, then something like benching 225 50 reps can become a regular thing........why........ ....its because you have programmed your mind and trained your muscles to perform the tasks, many of you who dont lift alot or lift alot, if you dont realize that it all begins in the mind, and the mind-muscle connection is the basis for growth and improvement, until you use your mind in the gym, your body will never respond or look like you want it to, thats what pumping iron is about, learning the intricacies and trials it takes to build the body, yeah im 38, my knees hurt from years of heavy squatting, i would be lucky to squat 500 one time, but i still have leg size and still know how to use my mind to build the leg, its not like my upper body, but at the end of the day if your still making progress and strength and size are going up, you are on the right track, i ran into a lady she said her husband is 69, lifetime iron pumper, has beat cancer 4 times, and i told her his mind power and strength from pumping iron all those years probably had something to do with him pulling through 4 times.

Like I said, I will be beyond impressed if he does 55 reps the correct way most important full extensions. I just watched a video with Phill Heath and several other people repping 225. Besides the first two guys, everyone was doing half reps at best. I train a lot with half reps, but there is a big difference between the two. Especially when a lot of reps are involved.

Even 45 is Insanely!!! good if it was done with full controlled reps. I have tried this twice and done 40 and 39 respectively. I also have benched over 600 raw to give you perspective. I have a video of the 39 as I did it for a board contest I won a while back. I have done 40 with 315 using quick 1/3 reps with the last rep being a full extension obviously. As you can see for me anyways, full controlled reps are much more difficult. 8)

Depends on how you train. I personally like 1/3 1/2 reps when training sometimes. Helps me develop explosive power out of the bottom part of my lift, which is important in raw benching. That being said I made sure my reps were slow and controlled with full extension in my 39 video. I knew if I cheated at all it wouldn't have counted for the contest.

Yes, we know about penitentiary style benching/lifting. And many of those dudes are big in the chest, etc. But, as you can see, those were smooth reps, with a very good ROM, even if they were half reps. But, we expected from you 55 good clean reps, many of us would even except half reps, but a 4-5 inch ROM, where you neither go all the way up or down, but only focus in the middle of the rep range, ain't kosher.
In short, it would not be excepted as "penitentiary style" benching.

Hey, Arce, this is no failure. The only way it could be construed as a failure is if you prepared for the event and came up short of fulfilling your aim. I'm surprised to pick up this tone from you; especially, given your life experiences and study of martial arts. You are one of the most positive posters on Getbig. I've never seen you insult anyone, you keep things civil and above board, and you're always generous in your support of others. You took a lot of time out of your day not only to meet up with a old and swollen friend and help record his pathological delusions for all posterity, but also to provide your Getbig bros and sisses with some levity and diversions from the doldrums of seriousness and routine. That's not a failure by any means. With regard to not being able to rep 225: big deal, I don't need to remind you there are many ways to determine inner and outer strength, and that the bench press is but a poor measure.

It wasn't very long ago you said you could do 60 reps on 225. LOL. Maybe three of those reps would count. The rest were less than half reps and that crap at the end where you were "repping" the bar for maybe a two inch range of motion.

I see guys like this in the gym - hanging on the "something" that's actually useless. A guy at my gym does swol-reps like that on the bench, and then always gets up and complains about his shoulder. I asked him why he doesn't stop benching for a few months, and he said he "doesn't want to lose it". Lose what? A bunch of half reps?
Do 5 sets of 12 properly if you have to do this. Nobody else in the gym cares.

This is what you should aspire for CSWOL. Your ROM is an utter failure by any sense of the word. No need to bounce, at least touch the chest and come half way up -- not coming up less than 2" and calling that a rep.

you know, heres little background on me.
i took a long break from this bbuilding a while ago.
before that break, i was some 30lbs heavier than now, fatter,yes, but not really much.
so,i just stopped from one day to another, totaly lost motivationj out of the blue sky.
stopped training, diet, gear, everything, and did mostly nothing at all but eating like s swine for 3 years.
i looked worse by the weeks, obviously, after months even moreso, step by step, but id for long time see the old glory days in the mirror.
then , when it didnt look so good anymore in the mirror, i lied to myself "it kinda looks still big,resembles the old days,not bad for not training blabla".
then as the fat layer got thick, id subconciously only step before the mirror in pullovers and lie to myself "still looks ok".
meanwhile, i grew epic huge bitchtitts, and bodyfat settled somewhere at 20%(everyone seen the pics).
then on holydays with ex gf she took a pic from behind me, my back,legs etc.because i asked her to do so, i believed and felt my lats and legs still look somewhat impressive.haha.
then when i seen the pics, the v taper of upper body was INVERTED, epic michelin man waist and stick for legs.
when i seen that pic, that was the moment i decided to go back to gym.
i think cswol is beyond where i was, bc i still looked better than him now.
ofc i can bench 170lbs for 20 on a good day ;D ;D :D
My level of delusion was even greater. I've only looked good once in my life: a few months when I was 16. After that I got fatter and fatter. But as I kept training and getting stronger I kept telling myself I was growing in a good way. Yes, I ended up with 24" arms. Yes, I eventually benched 405 clean. But I was monstrously obese, 310 lbs. Even when it dawned on me I had to lose weightI told myself I was around 30% bf. I truly believed that if I cut to 240 I'd look amazing. Right now I'm at 210 and only now I am (barely) below 30%.
Cswole is so deluded it's not funny. He is completely unable to see or appreciate the fact he's AT LEAST 100 lbs overweight. Keeping the weight high (by using absurd ROM) allows him to maintain this delusion.
Fortunately for me I never went so full retard that I used AAS to get fatter. So cswol has outdone me there.

The only way I would hire some like CSWOL to train me would be if he ever was in the type of shape a few times in his younger years that i wanted to achieve.
For example - i had a few people give me advice a few times who were BB and one chick who was a fitness competitor because they got themselves way past anything i was ever able to do.
Why hire someone who can't even get himself in respectable shape?

True, but the bodybuilding mags hype the use of all of those products. I haven't read one in years, but I know in MD for example, the pro would always list their "supplement stack" in their training articles. Especially the Muscletech sponsered guys. Their "stacks" would basically be the entire product line. I can see where a sixteen year old kid starting to bodybuild would read that and believe he needed all of those products to look like Jay Cutler.

I think i used to be able to get about 10-12 reps from 225lbs (slow and full ROM) when i weighed about 200lb but then bench pressing was never my best lift (fucked shoulders).....you'd have been better off posting something like that to be honest.

From what i've seen ....
A typical 5 10 fella natural with average genetics and build, can expect to be anywhere from 150lb to 175lb while sporting sub 10% bf.
The amount of hormones you have to take to push that limit is substantial.
a 5 10 fella wanting to be 200lb to 210lb sub 10%bf would require 1g+ minimum year round to attain. No slin, No GH.
If 5 10 fella wants to be a freaky 230lb+ sub 10%bf, then you pretty much have to have pro genetics, money, and take enough AAS and especially GH and Slin to attain such a goal. (insane amounts).

i see something like this, best genetic gifted natties can be 220lbs at something 12%, the best ones , but even they if they diet down they will have fuck all left.
i use height of say 5f11 or 6ft, something between that seems average these days, or its just the metric system,easier for me with the numbers.

its excusable for a newcomer to be permabulker for the first year on steroids, say one year natty to learn to somewhat eat, and muscle mind connection, do the movements properly, then one year on gear, building some basic strenght, to later on "play" around with the weights, but after that, one should be lean at any time.
if one gets fatter than 12,or even 15%,i dont see the point why go to the gym anymore(unless diet is planned), because the work and the muscle wont show, one will only look fat in clothes and wo clothes, and will develop moonface.
better to give the body a break altogether than that.
Not that I necessarily disagree with these sentiments, but it is sometimes hard to see why I or any other non-AAS trainee would even bother to lift.

Always wondered about this - whether early onset of heavy AAS usage allows for permanent physiological changes.
I see long time users - they can keep nearly the same physique, albeit a little more bf. A natural doesn't stand a chance against a PED user who has well timed response and PCT through years of heavy usage and now they are just trying to maintain.

for a natural, the only remedy is to try and stay lean at all times.
the hunt for size wont end(look)well naturally, the limit of whats possible as far pure muscle(not cswol bloof),is very little, maybe 20lbs of pure muscle when dieted down over what one had before they started.
sounds like little, but when lean actually looks good.
one will be stuck at some size and thats that, however, its not bad.
and if it helps to feel better the guys on gear ,if they want more mass, then its all borrowed too, but theyll still have edge over natties if they come off, seen it too many times.i have no doubts about that.
natural training is ok, but shouldnt be taken too serious beyond having good diet and being lean.
ofc its disheartening when you see someone in the gym,who just goes back on a cycle and dwarfs you and outleans you after 3 months,lol, but such is life.
many juicers will eventualy stop anyway, they want more and more and then fail and come off, most of them will be permafatsos messes of bloof ,thats the only thing most are consistent in.

even juicers severly overestimate "size", when its all bloat, real pure muscle comes very slow,over lenghty periods, for the both of them.
a good physique is something that noone can just "buy" overnight or short term, thats why one gets so many haters when they look good.
everyone knows, steroids or not, theres some serious work and time behind it, not some 3 month trendy summer cycle. 8)

Excellent point. Next year will be my 30th year of training (started in college in '84). Some years better than others. This past year has been my most consistent effort of my life (culminating with the realization that training in the early AM allows me to train 6-7 days a week). I also realized that that fitness dude look is a much more attainable and desirable look anyway.

Still love it, but having the biggest bench (or whatever) isn't a priority any more. Now it's on to practical shit: I'd rather be able to DL 315x10 without a warmup, than go for a 500 max after a 16 week peaking cycle and only hitting it if all the planets align properly.

yes there is something to it, seen it too many times.
i even read some scientific evidence pointing to that.
and i i know full well, bc i tried everything correctly when natty, was maxed out, and when im natty now im way beyond that, with hardly any training at all,mind you.
also i think the somewhat higher doses when young are neesary for this effect, bc on lower doses the gains wouldnt be the same.
and later on one can maintain easily almost the same amount of muscle as before on almost no gear.

and yeah, without question, the sooner one starts, the better.i mean lifting, not juicing.
the people who start out late have severe disadvantage it seems.
