I took these pics the day I got back so maybe 2-3 days later. Are you really going to try and pretend I am not in shape. Bodybuilding aside this is probably the most attractive size and condition physique for women. I am a lot bigger now but it doesn't get much better than this

Your visceral fat is about 10% of your total fat. I am looking to be about 7% in those photos at 195lbs that is 13.6lbs of total fat and about 1.4lbs of total visceral fat I am just bursting at the seams

As I proved yesterday I don't even have a gut now at 230lbs 3 weeks post hernia surgery much less then at 195lbs

You guys also need to understand once you have an umbilical hernia the motivation to get shredded isn't great as when you get too lean the hernia looks worse. It doesn't matter how lean you get the midsection isn't going to look great with a Hernia. It will be interesting to get super lean and see what it looks like in 6 months but right now I still have swelling and I still need to heal. You are going to heal better with a calorie and nutrition surplus.

This was a couple years ago in Maui. I would say I was about 6 months away from this based on my current strength pre hernia surgery. However I think I will probably spend most of 2023 just getting back to pre hernia strength. As such I would say mid 2024 to reach this strength again. I get that these are not meet standard bench presses as such my actual meet goal on the Bench in 2024 would be 350 for a single as it would be a pause rep.
Anyway my actual goals for a 2024 meet are as follows
350 Bench
400 Squat
500 Dead
That would give me a respectable 1250 total. Now might I come up a little short maybe but these are the goals I am planning to aim for in 2024.I plan to use the remaining part of 2023 recovering and expect to be lifting heavy by January and meet ready sometime in 2024. Have to see how work diet and life are going as well but these is kind of what I am thinking
Of course I still plan to strict curl and do a show sometime next year as well

Well prior to my surgery 3 weeks ago I pressed 315lbs rather easy so again I don't think 350 for a single is an unreasonable goal for 2024 I have done it before. Now that I trust the pec I will train heavier to hit the 350. I have been steadily coming back from injury. But no I am not going max out anytime soon post surgery. But a meet in 2024 seems reasonable and the weights above are not out of my range. The organization I am looking at does full meets and strict curling in NC and has an untested division. So I may actually do a full meet plus a strict curl but they don't count that in your total it's like a separate comp at the meet. Same deal get 3 lifts so it's not liek I have to hit these on my opener. And again I can't even train right now but that is why it is important now to have goals to look forward to training for again soon.

agree on this the Bar is too high & i bought one of these "Pussy Pads" but i now just use a towel on the bar which is much better.

I stopped using the pad a long time ago and yes I try to get the bar lower now. I am wearing a belt in that pic under the shirt that is a buckle in front not a belly. Regardless The plan going forward is to actually switch to front squats. I have read they can be better on a herniated disc than back squats also ago more stress on quads less lower back. Additionally being the harder movement don't need to use as much weight. I am going to have the squat rack setup outside when I start lifting again. But even though I can start training at 6 weeks that doesn't mean heavy squats and deads will go real light which will help me get form really dialed in as I eventually increase the weight. My buddy just posted himself doing 550 for 10 on the trap bar and when I asked he said it doesn't put as much stress on his lower back and really puts more on quads also said the trap was the more natural way to lift which I agree. Anyway just kind of reaffirmed my belief the trap bar is a better choice for me as will be doing front squats one day a week and trap deads one day a week and have lower back issues so I think front squats and trap bar with higher height grip will both help spare lower back. Oh yeah I am stoked to train and have a plan.

Trap bar is a great tool... Yeah, I can pull 100 lbs more on trap-bar. More inline, straight up/down. (The one w/ raised handles also gives more advantage).
Yup, take it slow, write a plan where you add 10 lbs a week to your SQ's and DL's (once healed, start low, work up)...
Front SQ's are also very good (harder, so less weight (does more)..

Not going to lie, that pad is what I used last year to help "reset" my squat. I wanted to try a high bar, full ROM, hammy to back of calf......that was the only way I could comfortably balance the bar - I have a big of long torso, so the physics don't work the best.
None of my cats have made fun of me for using it, so I think I'm good to continue.

I really don't recall however you can see above I was repping 275lbs rather easy for stiff leg deadlifts which are a lot more difficult. If I were asked to estimate I would say 405lbs would be rather easy and 495lbs would be rather difficult but honestly I have not attempted a heavy deadlift in over a decade. I do believe 495lbs on the trap bar would be no problem at all but again my goal is not just to do single rep max lifting I plan to be doing working sets of reps. The other main reason for the trap bar is I have space for it. I really don't recall however you can see above I was repping 275lbs rather easy for stiff leg deadlifts which are a lot more difficult. If I were asked to estimate I would say 405lbs would be rather easy and 495lbs would be rather difficult but honestly I have not attempted a heavy deadlift in over a decade. I do believe 495lbs on the trap bar would be no problem at all but again my goal is not just to do single rep max lifting I plan to be doing working sets of reps. You have an Olympic bar in your home fucking gym......just take it off the bench uprights, move the bench, and pull from the floor...........same amount of space is taken up,ie. the space taken up by the existing barbell is still the same........even more space when you move the bench you fucking genius.

I would like to maybe enter that wrestling tourney with my son next year. Additionally, I plan to compete in a full power meet sometime in 2024 and you are required to wear a singlet in a powerlifting meet. So it may get used twice a year.

You guys act like it is the end of the world if I get a trap bar and don't like it. SC actually thinks it is a great idea. Buying a trap bar doesn't mean I am not allowed to use an Olympic bar as well it just gives me another option.
Also I saw a well known bodybuilder mention his preference for front squats due to a herniated disc so i figured I will give them a shot I used to do them all the time 20 years ago it's not like I have never done a front squat but yeah I need to order and set up an outdoor squat station first anyway.

Because I wasn't bodybuilding and I was just trying to stay in shape. I used a cane most of 2019 due to a new 2cm meniscus tear from hack squats on top of my already surgically repaired knees. I never really got into deadlifting I tried it a couple times on a whim when others were deadlifting as I wasn't trying to be a fat powerlifter. However my back has always been strong on rows and since it is a lift for a full meet I will do some as again I would like to try a full meet next year. Lots of people significantly weaker than me have done powerlifting meets not sure why the board thinks I can't give it a try.
But yeah I do have injuries and I plan to train around them. I don't believe you have to just train heavy singles and break your back to get stronger at singles for a meet. I do feel I can safely train higher reps for most of the year then train lower reps just a few weeks prior to the event. I don't need to destroy my knees and back doing heavy singles all year.

I already stated my goals are 350,400,500 I think those are reasonable I honestly thing the bench will be the hardest of the 3. My only competition is with myself just trying to make my lifts and hit my numbers. It doesn’t matter to me if I do it in the 198,220, or 242lb class. The point of the meet is just training motivation and fun not expecting to be a world champion powerlifter. Also I am 45 years old I will be 46 at the time if I hit my marks that would be great. What others do is not my issue.

OK then.
I think you'll have an easier time getting back to the 350 bench since you've already done it in the past. But you've never pulled 500 before and if you go for it conventional style with an olympic bar(not the trap bar) you're probably going to have an anal prolapse and that bar is going to be glued to the ground.
What's the most you've pulled off a rack, say for barbell shrugs? There's also the grip issue but you'll claim you have an iron grip even though it's probably untested.

Even at older age. I'm still hitting my numbers (this year at age 57: 500-355-500) that I set for myself, and will try to add 5 lbs to bench, and 10 lbs to SQ and DL next year...
Ay my age, even minor gains are hard. (Plus getting past these shoulder and back issues for the rest of this year).

I really don't recall however you can see above I was repping 275lbs rather easy for stiff leg deadlifts which are a lot more difficult.
Do you know the difference between a stiff legged deadlift and a romanian deadlift?
