Chocolate Lab? A girl I work with used to have one, says she would never get any other dog. :)
-
My first dog (& probably my most loved) was my chocolate lab "sam"
That dog would follow me everywhere as a kid & would sit by the door in the window & would wait for my return everyday.
Cody has beautiful eyes
-
Thanks guys he is a great dog. :)
I was semi-complaining once to an old GF about how he would always follow me wherever I went, but her reply "why then you will never be alone" made me think.
She was a very smart woman.

Hazbin's "Lucan"
All the animals show on this board are absolutely beautiful. This particular little boy just takes my breath away though. Gorgeous dog Hazbin. Great color fur and simply amazing eyes. :)
-
Well.....get used to it because it's going to happen allot more in the future.. :D
If he keeps developing like he's doing now he could be a winner in the near future...that is if you keep him from getting injured or worse ..very dominant!
You have to be able to get in that ring and show him without him lashing out at other dogs..I've seen it before...people with a beautiful Neo but he wasn't properly socialised so they weren't able to show him because he was not to be trusted around other males...other breeders left him out of their breeding stock just because of that alone!
-
Just out of curiosity knny, but isn't your gf, the actual owner of the dog, involved in any of his training, care or showing? You have said that was why she got him, yet it doesn't seem that she is doing any of the work that goes with that? Showing can be a lot of time and work.
Just seems odd to me. ???
-
I guess Addie messing up my finger for life isn't really that bad, it could of been my knee! ;D

Yes...she's the owner & has poured hours in to him. I help out when I can & try to enjoy learning about it too. She deserves the credit & this was something she planned on doing before we had ever met.

Speaking of cutsie names I thought of starting a thread on those as well how most of us probably talk like a moron to our pet(s). You've heard my "dog" voice ::) I thought it would be funny but I think it might get too nauseating. :-\

Some of you have seen him before, bu here's my red nose american pit bull terrier, bubba, he looks like he's so vicious huh? Oh, and he's nonchalantly showing off his guns ;D ::):

I love how frankie's head/right eye brindge patch comes across his face at a perfectly straight line. very classic markings going on there, i am never a proponent of unecessary breeding, but i bet he could fetch a decent stud fee now that they are breeding hybrids with hybrids. american bull dogs are the breed gaining popularity the fastest because they have the pit bull sweetness without the bad rap.

Thanks bro. Bubba looks like your classic, handsome red nose pit. I think I told you before red nosed pits are my fav.Frankie's fav playmate at the dog park is a black and white male pit named Vegas. I love when you are at the dog park with your pit or ab and all the people who gave you a second look feel foolish when there lab is out of control and your pit / ab is the most well mannered dog in the park.

Haha... i wish i could say something like that, but my guy is off the charts dog aggressive. The jackasses who had him before we rescued him didn't fight him or anything, but he was NEVER socialized in the slightest (from what we can gather). When he was doing the socializing training (to show he could be controlled ona leash, which he can be quite well, he doesn't even look at dogs if he's on the leash, he fears the prong collar), the head trainer was amazed by him, cuz he ( the trainer) had a pit that formerly was a champion fighting dog in louisiana and he said our dog was infinitely more dog aggressive than his ever was. If he's in a dead sleep and a dog comes by outside our house and he hears the collar, he's at attention in a hurry, its pretty funny. He gets between wherever you and the dog are (even though there's a wall cuz we're inside) and stands there staring at the wall, essentially boxing you out, until the other dog is far enough away to where he can't hear it or smell it. We're hoping he'll mellow cuz we want to rescue a female pit thats at the shelter who is the biggest sweetheart ever. She had both her front legs crushed in a dog fight by another pit who's name was "bonecrusher." Apt name i guess. We've introduced them and he was pretty indifferent about her, so we're hoping gradual meetings can lead to them getting along. anyway...
oh, what are you doing up so late, you're on the east coast, no work tomorrow?

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A man who kept a 400- to 500-pound Bengal tiger and a 3-foot alligator as roommates in his Harlem apartment was in custody Sunday, charged with reckless endangerment, police said.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the tale began Wednesday, when police officers responded to a call of a dog bite at the 19-story public housing apartment building. They found Antoine Yates, 31, in the lobby, with injuries to his right arm and right leg that he told police had been caused by a pit bull, Kelly said.
Yates was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
Thursday, an anonymous caller told police that "someplace in the city, there was a large wild animal," Kelly said. "There was a large wild animal who was biting people."
The tipster called back Friday night, saying that the "wild animal" was at Yates' apartment, Kelly said.
When police returned Saturday to the apartment building to investigate, a resident told them the tenants included a tiger. Yates -- who had checked himself out of the hospital -- was nowhere to be found.
Police talked with a neighbor who said the man in the apartment owned a tiger. A fourth-floor resident complained that urine had seeped through her ceiling from Yates' apartment, Kelly said.
Still trying to determine what they were dealing with, police cut a hole in Yates' door.
"An officer who was guarding the apartment looked through the hole and indeed saw the large tiger pass by the open hole," Kelly said.
Larry Wallach, a tiger specialist from Suffolk County who assisted the police, said the orange tiger looked well-fed and in "great shape."
After it was sedated, the tiger was carried from the building on a gurney and loaded onto a waiting truck.
Wallach said he peered through the hole and saw the tiger lying by the window, and Kelly said he spied the animal contentedly licking its paws.
Police said the apartment was so cluttered they felt they had no choice but to rappel from above and shoot a tranquilizer dart from outside.
Officer Martin Duffy got the job, lowering himself from a seventh-floor apartment, armed with a tranquilizer gun and an M-4 rifle. Once at the window, he tapped on it with his shoe to get the tiger's attention.
The tiger lunged.
"I got pretty nervous, I'm not going to lie," Duffy told reporters later. "He broke the glass when he charged at me."
Duffy fired one dart into the animal and was then lowered to the ground. A second officer rappelled down the side of the building a few minutes later to ensure the animal was sedated before police entered the apartment through the door. They found the animal unconscious atop a pile of furniture.
The alligator was nearby. Both animals were taken to an animal shelter.
Yates, who surfaced later Saturday night at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, in Philadelphia, was taken into custody and charged with reckless endangerment, police said.
"This is an only-in-New-York story," Kelly said.
Police suspect Yates got the tiger when it was a cub and had lived with it for as long as two years.

-
His the teeth don't look all that big and nasty for such a ruthless blood thirsty killer.
We're under the impression that the people who had him before the county seized him kept him chained up, and his teeth appear really worn down for his age, and thats probably from chewing on the chain constantly. The aren't as small as the pic makes them look though.
-
As you can see, he's still got nice, healthy teeth and a perfect scissor bite, but they are a bit worn down, no point to his big teeth, almost as if they filed them down... :-\
(http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m69/TheOne1932/DSCF0006-1.jpg)

I was going to say the same thing. It just didn't seem like a big row of teeth.
The Rottie we have has a row of teeth like I've never seen before. I guess it's normal for the breed, but I swear I've never seen such a wide row of teeth.

Well I get my lil guy tomorrow and then I shall post some pictures of him... I'm jacked took off work and everything tomorrow...... How long until I can rest easy of taking him into public and not catching Parvo... I've heard mixed results... First time having a puppy so young... He'll be 7 weeks old

7 weeks...pretty young.
Honestly, the day my g/f got the pup....he was out & about. Because he was still a youngster, he wasn't on a leash & walking in the public on his own until he seemed ready (at that point he must of been 12 weeks). He was a big pup to begin with....going upstairs was slow...but he could do it. Going down stairs...he would just sit there & look down - lol

"I'd wait until they've had the first two dhpp shots and 4-5 months of age. even so it can still be too early, we had a dog/puppy completely on time with all its shots come in and die today from, parvo, so wait as long as you can." -
Direct quote from my girlfriend the veterinary technician.

Laura, we saw it run across the road, I thought it was a squirrel. My girlfriend demanded we take it home because the tip of tail had been ran over. Took it to the vet Monday and got all the shots and stuff. Gotta go back in 3 weeks. Pretty funny because wherever he goes, he runs, and it's so funny to watch him run.

Last weekend i brought her over to my parents house to play with their cat. They loved to chase each other around the house and play.So i left her there and went to work as usual, not thinking id come home and find something wrong. But when i came home i noticed she wasnt moving from under my dads desk.I picked her up and she cried and hissed at me.I had no idea that she was hurt that bad.So my mom took her to the vet the next day, they x rayed her and found out she had dislocated her hip. They put it back in place, gave her some meds, and told us to keep her in the bathroom for a couple days, and she should be walking by next week.So we did just that,i checked on her, gave her some water, she would barely eat her food. She just layed there, would barely move, except to use her litter. Then last thursday i went to go check on her, like i did everyday since she was hurt, and i found her laying on her side.I knew right away she was gone, she was laying on top of her food bowl, ill never forget that sight.I dont know exactly what killed her,our vet was in a bad car accident a couple days ago and wont be in for a month,so i cant talk to her until then.I only had her for 8 months, its very hard now not having her with me like im use to.Heres a pic of us about 3 months ago

Dude...really man....thats tough.
I feel sad just reading that & it's not even my animal. I would feel horrible coming in & seeing an animal that passed away & especially that young.
Can you tell me what medicine did the Vet give you? Do you still have the bottles & can you tell me what they say on the outside?
The reason why I ask...I'm always very leary of giving pets medicine (let alone myself). Seriously...I don't take medicines & never get sick....but I can't say everyone is like me...so don't follow my lead. I'm just a little curious.
Again...sorry about your loss dude.
-
Deke, that must of been a shock. Sorry you had to go through that. Hopefully your vet can give you some answers when she is back. :-\

It's the hardest thing to be the one to find your beloved pet like that. I lost my samoyed puppy after having her only a few weeks. She was the funniest dog. She would be rolled in a ball and pass some gas, she would jump up like "what the hell is that smell?", sniff her butt and run. While she was running away from her fart, she would fart some more which would freak her out. It was a hoot to watch. I had lost my grandfather earlier that week and when I came home from his funeral, I found her hanging in her kennel. She had tried to get out of the kennel by pushing her head out the top, when she couldn't do it, she pulled back in and the latch caught her collar. She choked herself. It was a long time before I got another puppy. :'(

No, Moguwai's only two sons she ever had both passed away. One died back in the mid 90's of Feline HIV and Kudi (my boy), passed away 3 years ago at the age of 15. Here's a picture of Kudi.

Yeah, it's funny. That 21 year old cat is running around the house like a little kitten right now. Amazing but she's technically 105 years old in human years.

"Smokey the Supplement Cat" ;D
My friend owns a supplement store and has had Smokey living there for years. He decided to turn his back room into a training studio and needed to find a new home for Smokey. We adopted Smokey when he was 11 years old...he's 12-1/2 now.
He's a super chill cat, very sweet and friendly with everyone, and quiet talkative (he knows my schedule and bitches for fresh breakfast at 5 AM). He is pretty tough too...he doesn't have front claws, but when my friend's dalmation came to stay for a few days, Smokey got pissed about having to share the house. He cornered the dalmation, scratched his nose till it bled, and made the dog piss all over himself. :D
My only complaint about him is that he has A LOT of hair.
Not sure what kind of supplements he got into at my buddy's shop, but he's a pretty big cat, 16 pounds.

NO, actually I don't know much about him. Our buddy was just like "do you want this cat? he's old but he's cool." LOL
We have always been dog people, so I don't know much about cats or breeds either.
Alot of people ask me if he's a mancoon? but I have no idea what he is or whether he's a pure breed or a mix.
He's really pretty though...thick charcoal grey hair with big green eyes.

They probably meant Maine Coon.
One of the oldest natural breeds in North America, the Maine Coon is generally regarded as a native of the state of Maine (in fact, the Maine Coon is the official Maine State Cat). A number of attractive legends surround its origin. A wide-spread (though biologically impossible) belief is that it originated from matings between semi-wild, domestic cats and raccoons. This myth, bolstered by the bushy tail and the most common coloring (a raccoon-like brown tabby) led to the adoption of the name 'Maine Coon.' (Originally, only brown tabbies were called 'Maine Coon Cats;' cats of other colors were referred to as 'Maine Shags.') Another popular theory is that the Maine sprang from the six pet cats which Marie Antoinette sent to Wiscasset, Maine when she was planning to escape from France during the French Revolution. Most breeders today believe that the breed originated in matings between pre-existing shorthaired
domestic cats and overseas longhairs (perhaps Angora types introduced by New England seamen, or longhairs brought to America by the Vikings).
Characteristics:
Everything about the Maine Coon points to its adaptation to a harsh climate. Its glossy coat, heavy and water-resistant, is like that of no other breed, and must be felt to be appreciated. It is longer on the ruff, stomach and britches to protect against wet and snow, and shorter on the back and neck to guard against tangling in the underbrush. The coat falls smoothly, and is almost maintenance-free: a weekly combing is all that is usually required to keep it in top condition. The long, bushy tail which the cat wraps around himself when he curls up to sleep can protect him from cold winters. His ears are more heavily furred (both inside and on the tips) than many breeds for protection from the cold, and have a large range of movement. Big, round, tufted feet serve as 'snow shoes.' Their large eyes and ears are also survival traits, serving as they do increase sight and hearing. The relatively long, square muzzle facilitates grasping prey and lapping water from streams and puddles.Maine Coons develop slowly, and don't achieve their full size until they are three to five years old. Their dispositions remain kittenish throughout their lives; they are big, gentle, good-natured goofs. Even their voices set them apart from other cats; they have a distinctive, chirping trill which they use for everything from courting to cajoling their people into playing with them. (Maine Coons love to play, and many will joyfully retrieve small items.) They rarely meow, and when they do, that soft, tiny voice doesn't fit their size!
Temperament:
While Maine Coons are highly people-oriented cats, they are not overly-dependent. They do not constantly pester you for attention, but prefer to "hang out" with their owners, investigating whatever activity you're involved in and "helping" when they can. They are not, as a general rule, known as "lap cats" but as with any personality trait there are a few Maine Coons that prefer laps. Most Maine Coons will stay close by, probably occupying the chair next to yours instead. Maines will follow you from room to room and wait outside a closed door for you to emerge. A Maine Coon will be your companion, your buddy, your pal, but hardly ever your baby.
Description
The important features of the Maine Coon are the head and body shape, and the texture and 'shag' of the coat. The head is slightly longer than it is wide, presenting a gently concave profile with high cheekbones and ears that are large, wide at the base, moderately pointed, and well tufted inside. They are set well up on the head, approximately an ear's width apart. Lynx-like tufting on the top of the ears is desirable. The neck should be medium-long, the torso long, and the chest broad. The tail should be at least as long as the torso. One of their most distinctive features is their eyes, which are large, round, expressive, and set a a slightly oblique angle. Overall, the Maine Coon should present the appearance of a well-balanced, rectangular cat.

ROFLMAO. That is too funny!

LOL @ Maine c o o n! :D
Yeah he's prolly got some of that breed in him, but I don't think he's a purebred. He's got the racoon rings on his tail but he's mostly charcoal grey. But clearly I have no idea what i am talking about (i.e. "mancoon" hahahaa).
He definitely has the temperment EXACTLY as described, as he does hang out and always sits next to me, checking out whatever I am doing....except he is "mouthy" LOL. He meows a lot and can be loud when he wants to make a point (like "get me some fresh food dammit!"). Whenever you look at him and say anything, he talks back to you.

When we take Rocky out for a walk during contest prep it is very hard because he wants to smell every blade of grass, lol. He pees like 40 times (a drop each time) through out the whole time. This stroller would help us during that time.
-
The one thing about that stroller is that you can't adjust the height of the handle on it. It would be too short for Mike, but you should be fine! For $30 it's not a bad deal, but it certainly doesn't compare to the $100 ones they sell in pet stores!

Rocky tries to bite our toes as well. By boxing I mean he stands up on his hind legs and tries to open hand/paw slap or fight with us. It cracks me up.

He does that, and he jumps up and bites the lips of the others, and he is always biting Bri in the back of her leg! She ignores him. ;D He sleeps with all of them. Usually Addie, but if Addie is on the floor he will go curl up with one of the others. Sometimes he is smushed in between them. Addie gets spayed on the 7th and has to stay overnight, I wonder what Tad will do without her around?

Rocky tries to nip our lips or nose too and is always jumping on the back of our calves. His new thing is that as soon as we walk in the door he picks up his favorite stuffed animal and brings it to us. He wants to either play tug-o-war or fetch. lol He's so damn cute. :D
-
Does he ever go nuts over a piece of fuzz or something? Tad will start running around and lunge in at whatever it is then back off and do it again, then zoom around, like he is on speed! All the time making little grunting noises. At work he has a little cat toy, a wiener dog, by Fat Cat, that he likes to do that with. He can't have it at home because it poses a hazard to the big dogs.

Yes, Rocky will pounce on or slap one of his dog food nuggets when they are on the floor so they roll and then he keeps doing it, running away and then back at it. Sometimes he takes his toys and throws them in the air and watches them fall...only to do it again and again and again. But I have to say, the funnies thing he does is when he has a little accident...he tries to clean it up with the toilet paper. He goes in the bathroom and he can reach the roll, so he pulls it out and all the way to the accident. He just doesn't know how to separate the tissue from the roll, lol.

He's home today. 8)

I will post a pic of him with the cone on his head later today since he was neutered this morning. First pic is his very first day home, little over 8 weeks i think. Second and third are him being a fool about 9 months, that summer after I got him. Last is him around that following thanksgiving. Not quite a year old yet. I have like no new pics, god, prolly nothing in the past 6-8 months. I'll take some

Good looking dog.
This picture was around thanksgiving.....he was around 8 mo here.
I need to get more pictures of him as he's really grown alot & is still adding alot of muscle/weight.
-
He looks awesome. Plato is on the small side for a male. He hovers around 100-105, but hes not lanky at all or anything. Great muscle tone, tapered waist, meaty hind legs and his chest is very robust...hes just short. He was the 9th dog taken from a little of 11. Father was 120, Mother was just at the cut off for the bitch standard.
Your dog(what is his name?) looks beastly
-
'Diego' (my g/f & I's dog) is pretty tall & big for a Rottie. We get approached all the time when we take him for walks. Most common thing we hear is "Now he looks like a Rottie is supposed to look like". Alot of people just can't get over how big he is.
Personally...to me when I look at him...I see a 20-30# puppy. His father is ranked nationally (very high) for the breed. When we brought him to a show (as spectators) to watch his father, we had litterly tons of people that wanted to see him. At that time he just turned 13 months & although he wasn't mature yet, was thicker than most of the males at the show. I have no idea how much he weighs as i don't have a scale that can handle my bodyweight plus his. He's my boy so I still pick him up & toss him around like a puppy when we play which he seems to never can get enough of.
He has a great temperament & for the most part....is a gentle, silly, pup. He's been socialized very good & is extremely approachable by both pets & humans. Sometimes I wished he was a little more guarded...but as of right now....someone could break in the house & he would lick & greet them.
-
Hehe. I get compliments all the time too. Did you ever notice that people always think your dog weighs more than he actually does? People at the vet will be like how much does he weigh, about 150? And I look at them with this very awkward stare like, "150, you are joking right?"
People don't really realize a big rottie until they see one. I thought Plato was big until I started his obedience class and now a dear friend of mine had a puppy 1 month younger, and much bigger. That puppy is now 28 inches at the shoulder and about 120lbs. His brother, from the same litter, is 130lbs and shorter. His head is gigantic. If you've seen photos of Wotan or the Jeneck's breeders dogs, thats what he looks like. Absolute god damn monster.
I couldnt care less about Plato's height/weight though, his personality is 100% Rottweiler. He was just neutered today so there is a possibility there'll be a slight change with his temperament. But, the only complaint I have with him is he has been very very dominant since the day we brought him home. Played dominance games like humping on almost everyone in the family until we nipped that in the bud. He is the classic case of a social climber. He will gladly take someone's spot in the house in the social hierarchy if they let him. He is very standoffish with new people, but once he gets to know you, hes a huge baby. As far as total strangers coming to the house go, lol, unless I or a family member escorts someone in or he knows them, you won't make it through the door. I like it though, because he is never "aggressive". If someone comes to the door he will stand about 20 feet away and just wait and get a vibe from them. If they walked in and started advancing towards him, he'd most certainly do something...this can be a gift and a curse, but hey, that is what he is supposed to do as long as he behaves when I say it is ok, which he does.
He is sleeping next to me right now I am glancing over every minute to make sure he isn't trying to lick his incision =P

Well...when he was a 8-9 mo (during that picture) we were stopped on our walk by some other Rottie people & they could not believe he was that big for being so young. They swear he was 2-3 years old. He dwarfed their dog...but you could tell he was immature as hell by his behaviour.

Sounds like our dog Diego. My girlfriend will be showing him sometime in the near future. He may be a little over in height, but I think he'll still be able to show because his father is 27 1/2 inches. I know he's surpassed 120 pounds a few months ago....but at this point....it's getting hard to guess his weight when i pick him up. He's just getting heavier & heavier. He's still holding a tight waist so thats all that matters. I'm still guessing he should gain about another 10-15 pounds. His coat is still very loose around his neck, shoulders, & chest.
I know this is funny...but some guy the other day sweared his parents must of been breed with a mastiff - lol
His father is big....put the rest of the pups from the litter didn't get 'that' big. I guess he's his dad's boy.

I'll be honest....if our dog was smaller...it wouldn't matter. I think it would be easier in some cases. When he was picked from the litter....he was a bigger puppy...but wasn't the largest. Somehow he shot up quick & kept going - lol

Now I wish our dog was a little more protective like that. We call him "quiet man". He just sits there...& stares. He rarely barks unless he's spooked.
What's funny....is when people are walking by & don't see him because he's standing still. When they jump...they usually say "oh shit thats a big dog"....& then our silly dog starts wiggling & wagging his tail like a moron. They really don't know what to think...because they're not expectation that kind of response.
Here's a video of when he was a pup with some of his brothers/sisters. He's the big uncoordinated goof getting out of the pool last.

If he was bigger I would have pondered Schutzhund. But, it is very very hard on their joints. Some dogs are actually diagnosed falsely with hip dysplasia when it is actually stress fractures that are result of the impact while working. I would have started him as soon as his teeth set around 1 year.
Plato never barks. Very very very rarely. Once in a blue moon in my yard or something he'll hear something over the wall(we have an 8 foot wall surrounding our entire yard since we have an in-ground pool), and he will let off the Rottie half bark/half growl that sounds like raspy mumbling.
It is funny cause people consider him a big dog when in reality he isn't. Actually, he is a big dog, not a big Rottie.

That is hilarious. It could be since he is neutered, but neutering doesn't always change the dogs temperament, so it could just be who he is. Sometimes, it doesn't help at all. Diego sounds alot like "Dillon" the tall 28'' Rottie I spoke of is an absolute sweetheart. During class his owner can actually leave him with fellow club members children and he just hangs out. He greets everyone with such happiness.
Believe me, while you wish Diego was more like Plato in certain aspects, there are many times when I have wished Plato was a little more laid back and goofy. It is very rare that you see these famous Rottweilers like Wotan and Nero that can come off a sleeve and have a little kid jump on his back and him be able to totally make the distinction between work and play. Some dogs just have all around amazing temperaments. With all this said, I wouldn't trade Plato for anything in the world.

Ok...didn't want to say this....but when he does bark (as rare as it is...) he sounds like a bluetick or redbone hound. It a "Hooooooooowwwwwwwwuuuuuu uuu".
It's pretty pathetic.
Actually....he is NOT neutered. He had the cone on a couple months ago because of a boo boo on his "boys"
Being an intact male...I''ve never had one this silly & loveable. When people that see him that are Show people....they say he has an amazing personality. We wondered why he was like this....but when we saw his dad....his dad was the same way. He's great around kids. Just loves to play but is a gentle giant.....although he is a little clumsy.

I don't know if I did this right. I made a little video of Rocky and uploaded to youtube.

I think the 'altering changes temperament' belief is way over inflated. Emmett wasn't altered till he was over 2 years of age and no change in his temperament afterwards, none noticed in Tad either. What it did 'correct', was both their male marking behavior.
Addie gets spayed next Friday, she is around 4 now, so I will be looking to see if anything changes with her, but I doubt there will be. Maybe she will be less interested in other dogs on our walks, or maybe not. The top dog in the house has always been Briona who was spayed at around 9 months, so that didn't change her! ;D
Addie has never attempted to get out and roam while in heat either. She would bug Emmett a bit, but that is it. And no male dogs started hanging around either when she has been in heat. That too is over stated as to giving the appearance that females are trying to get out while in heat and males all over the neighborhood are scaling your fences to get to them. Most accidental breedings I have heard of take place in the house with another house dog because they weren't kept separate, not from escape or an outsider dog getting in.

I wish you would Flower, I am so scared to do it. I clipped them a little bit about a week ago and then thought I would do it again this weekend. He jumps because of the noise, but it scares me to think I could hurt him :(

Altering doesn't always change their temperament. When it does, it sometimes isn't drastic. For those it affects, over a 2 month period theres usually a noticeable difference in reduction of marking/same sex aggression/dominance, IF the dog had those traits to begin with.
I've also heard of dogs going into a rebound period after being neutered, and lunging and doing other things they have never done. But it passes

Yeah they are usually always so close to temperament of their parents. Plato's dad was exactly like us when we met him. Didn't even look at us. He just didn't care. He actually saw us, looked away and then went and shit on the grass.

You paint my livingroom, I'll trim the nails!! ;D
You hold him, have Mike trim them. ;)
Tad is much better now, I think he has realized that they are getting clipped with or without his cooperation so he might as well not fight so hard. ;D
Addie thumps or kicks me, or tries too. If they don't trim them good while she is out next Friday I will be really pissed! >:(

I hear ya. We have a tough time tearing ourselves away from our little boy at night too. Our's is just too hyper and can't sit still for a second.
-
Hes adorable. :D Macy is suprisingly calm for a puppy, more so than the lab I grew up with when she was a pup. She goes right to sleep when I put her on the couch with me. My first experience owning a pit, so far so good. Shes napping right now actually.

That must be nice. I'm not home right now, but I would bet anything that my Rocky is doing summersaults right about now. lol. He doesn't sit still except when he sleeps and that's only at night when all the lights are off. When I go down stairs into the kitchen in the morning, he's all curled up under his blanket. The first time he did that I thought he got out of his pen and was roaming the house because he didn't move under the covers. Then after looking for a few minutes, the blanket started moving and this little tiny head popped out. He's so damn cute :D
-
Luckily I work in a family owned business and she can come into work with me. LOL at Rocky doing summersaults. Im excited to see my doggy grow, I havent had a puppy in a long time. I love holding her and carrying her around but its gonna be fun when she gets older. I actually considered a Chi for their size and personality but then I saw this beauty and had to have her. Plus the Chi i was looking to adopt got some of the contaminated dogfood and didnt make it. So I thought it wasnt meant to be and got a pittie.

This is our first Chi and we didn't expect such a hyper dog, but I wouldn't train him for the world. I'm sorry to hear about the other Chi. Poor thing :( But it looks like Macy found a wonderful home and will give you many years of joy. Give her a big hug from Rocky will you? His girlfriend is a Pit as well.

Clipping my moms labs nails are a pain because they are so damn dark i have to guess at how much to take off since I dont clip them all the time. She's bled before and it makes me feel really bad but its nothing serious.

That is what I am afraid of. Rocky's are black :(

Macys nails are clear/white so right now i can see where the quick is, makes it much easier to clip. She had some talons when i brought her home.

Make her sleep on the floor or crate train. You have a pitbull, don't start bad habits early.

And Laura, that pitbull is actually really good looking.

That is our friend's pit. She is a great dog. Her name is Dallas (her owners favorite team). She is a Blue Pit. Rocky is a Blue Chi. Together they could make Blue Pitchi's ha ha ha ha :)

I posted this in a thread nominating him for Dog of the Month, but thought it belonged here, as well...
Here are me and my little guy, a 13 pound Boston Terrier named Three. His original owner was a Dale Earnhardt fan and his wife forbade him to name the dog "Dale", so he named him after the number of the man's car!

And another, with his favorite College basketball team in the background!
He's smart, funny and LOVES Dorian Yates. I watch whatever bodypart I'm training on the Dorian DVD before going to the gym. Normally, he doesn't care about TV or what's on, but when I put in "Blood & Guts", he's all eyes and ears.
He sits right in front of the TV and is hypnotized until I turn it back to regular TV.
He's a true meat-head that eats clean all week, and eats junk on Saturday night, just like Daddy (me)! And he's shredded...veins in the abs and everything. All he needs is a shave and some Pro Tan and he's ready to go!

Macy is adorable!!
Understand the hard to crate the puppy at night. When we got Smokey my husband put the crate in our room. I couldn't take the crying so I went to another bedroom. Subsequent nights he'd say she'd cry for 3 minutes and he'd put her in bed w/him. The 3 minutes was actually 30 seconds ::)
Triple H, your guy is adorable too!

How much was that pup. I wouldn't say he is cute but has more of that warrior look. His pattern reminds me of a warrior riding into battle gorgeous boy.. SO what did he cost ya? Did you get papers and what is his background.. I have to know.. SOrry for all the questions but that is a great dog and I want details.

Those are nice looking dogs, but way over the standard that they are claiming to abide by. Huge dogs. I have seen Muglestons before too. It is almost hard to believe that they are that big. Some of them weigh more than Plato and hes a Rottweiler, albeit small for a Rottie, but still.
Beautiful dogs though.

Yeah...he's in good shape. We walk him everyday & I take him on short runs & wrestle around with him alot. He would eat like a horse if we let him....but since we might show him....we try to keep him fit.
Not sure how much he weighs...but he's over 120 at this point...but I doubt if he's reached 130 yet. I still think he's going to gain about another 10 pounds of muscle...especially in the shoulders & chest.
-
Hahaha! Dezi Rain is gorgeous and looks like a lot of fun No Patience!
I also like how your decor has changed over the years ;D
This one makes me laugh for some reason:

This is our first Chi and we didn't expect such a hyper dog, but I wouldn't train him for the world. I'm sorry to hear about the other Chi. Poor thing :( But it looks like Macy found a wonderful home and will give you many years of joy. Give her a big hug from Rocky will you? His girlfriend is a Pit as well.

I love the wrinkles on her head. Man dogs are the best!

Its funny, most people when they saw her couldnt beleive she was a pit because the only image they've seen is a fullgrown pitbull with cropped ears and a big head.
-

Everyone loves them as pups, but when they get full grown it's like they turned into the devil.. People still say Chaos and Chucka are cute, but then when I tell them that they are pits most people give this look of ohh there gonna become killers..
-
Yea a neighbor of my moms was freaked out when he first saw her and I told him she was a pit. She was only like 14 lbs at the time when he saw her i could have laughed. I cant see being afraid of a 14 lb puppy.

Buster is my terrier mix - he's the first dog I ever owned (got him right after my dad passed away, so he's really special to me)
Maggie is my shepherd mix - she is NUTTY!!! think about the movie "Dr. Dolittle" where Gilbert Godfrey plays the neurotic dog who always wants you to "throw the ball"
I love my pups!

Here's our boy last Saturday at a local Dog Show checking out the competition. He's pretty much all grown up....or atleast we hope he's done filling out because he's a moose - lol
It makes you feel funny...maybe it's a proud feeling mostly....when you see other Rottie owners mouths drop when they see him for the first time. I'm not saying it because he's ours....but we keep are being told that he's really an amazing looking dog. If things go well, he'll be starting his competitive career as soon.

Anymore pictures of Diego? How much is he weighing now? Looks MASSIVE
-
Anymore pictures of Diego? How much is he weighing now? Looks MASSIVE
The other pictures we took did not turn out well. Most of them are too light because of the sun.
I will guess he's around 130 ish. I haven't been able to weigh him in awhile & the last time he was around 125 lbs 4-5 months ago. I play & lift him everyday. I would guess he's gained about another 5 lbs since then. Our breeder when she saw him this weekend estimated him to be about the same or heavier.
btw....this dog I truly believe thinks he weighs 20 - 30 pounds. He still thinks he's a puppy. We were walking with some friends that had a 4 month old Rottie puppy. When a lady said "Aww...look at the puppy"....our dog ran over instead of the puppy & was carrying on worse than the 4 month old pup. Kind of made everyone laugh.

Well, the cat that passed away did...but he was blind....don't think he had much of a choice.
The other cat doesn't care for him...his size...or his goofiness. I don't see them ever being 'buds', although I try to socialize them at least once a day.

Cody the dog when he learned he going to one of his favorite places, the doggie day care place. Where he gets to play with his buddies, Hershey, Albey, Jake and Cash. A dogs smile is one of the best things and to see his eyes light up makes me happy.
-
How often does he go?
Scout loves going. We ask him if he wants to go and play with the pups and he starts bouncing off the walls. This was at the end of his day. They tell me he goes non-stop all day except for nap time.
LOL cool video it always cracks me up to see all those dogs together like that. Yeah they love it and it is probally the best thing for them. They learn how to be dogs and get along in a pack like they are supposed to. He comes home so tired from there he sleeps for about 2 days LOL. LOL yeah Cody is very active there too they tell me he plays hard and he is sometimes not up for nap time but wants to keep playing.
I take him twice a week but wish I could get him there 3 times a week but it gets a little expensive.
-
Awww the pups are very cute. Luv, Cody looks very happy! :)

His coat is so shiny. What are you feeding him? Fish oil too?
No fish oils. Just feed him crap in the bag - but lamb only. Nothing else seems to agree with him. I do toss a bunch of "whatever" in his food though. He's to the point where he finds his food boring. So when I toss a little "whatever" in his bowl....he chomps it all down.
That was actually a few days before his bath. His coat is always shiny eventhough he rolls in the dirt & smells doggy.

Dakota... Black lab, 5 years old :)
Cool dog and pic :)

;D
-
Rocky looking good Laura!
So cute! Does he swim? We had a Border Collie mix (probably some Lab in her) that swam all the time. She'd try to race us if we swam laps :)
Yeah he swims all the time. He doesn't actually swim in the pool (fell in when young and isnt really that fussed on the pool ever since, lol) but we're only about a 2 minute walk to the beach, so he gets a swim every day.
Dakota has been limping a lot for thr past year, and the vet hasn't been able to give us a definitive anwser on what it is exactly, something to do with the shoulder joint. But its improved quite a lot lately, and since the limping started, we have been swimming him more and walking him a bit less. Hopefully it continues to improve...

Have you ever tried something like "Joint Max?"

;D
again with the Arvilla tongue pose.
-
Have you ever tried something like "Joint Max?"
Well he takes glucosamine every night with dinner, and he just finished a course of these tablete called "controphin" (sp). He's currently not taking these now, but if he starts limping aging, we give him some again till it stops. Seems to work quickly and effectively. We're just stumped as to how this occured. he has a dog friend who is a staffy and he use to run around all crazy and wrestle with her. Maybe he hurt it doing that? He doesn't really run around anymore, well we try to stop him anyway...

I think there is glucosamine in the Joint Max.
Hope Dakota heals up more quickly :)

Awwwwwwwww!
Dobie's come in sizes? I mean besides Min Pins?
-
It's like Mc Donalds.
You can get them in super sized value meals, kid meals, or just by themself
-
Kinda like at my house ;D
-
i dont think there's an official 'medium' size category for dobermans. i just call her medium cause at 2 and a half she's pretty much full grown and is smaller than most average sized dobermans. which is perfect cause she's my first dog and I dont live in the biggest place in the world.
-
Shine is gorgeous. Love her name also :)

;D

*squak!*

hurley running around and being awesome.

How is this representing your pet?
-
I don't have a pet
-
Are you trying to get somebody to buy you a doberman? Btw, is that how they spell it?
-
no used to have 2 of them.
I moved into a condo had to give them away. it's a great breed.
-
Why are they a great breed? My mother has two of the laziest dogs on the planet. They look very pretty and go with her furniture, but they don't do shit.
-
extremely smart and loyal.
they have a good size to them. playful when they need to be and they're always on duty. As soon as they see something shady they're on it. :)
-
Haha. Definitely not like salukis. If my parents' house got burgled, those two probably wouldn't get off their couch. They'd just stick their heads over the edge to watch and yawn.
-
it would depend if food was around. Give a dog food he's your best friend.
I would like to get a dog and train it to only accept food from me.
-
hurley running around and being awesome.
What? You couldn't help him get that pudgy body on the couch? ;D
He looks like a real ham :D

Smudge is adorable!!! Tad's ears took a while to stand and then one decided to flop so he has one floppy and one that stands. He can get them both to stand if he wants to. Tad's ears seem pretty thin to me. I tell him it gives him character, plus like his brindle coloring it is a distinguishing feature ;)
-
Thats a dog....right
;D
-
chihuahuas are either damn adorable or they look like rats. those two are the former. :D

Tad kinda looks like a hyena there...a very small cute hyena.

This is Max, a Quaker Parrot. He is about 5 years old and I adopted him from the local humane society. He is obviously a plucker, but has made some improvements in the time I have had him even though he is still chewing and plucking in some areas. :( His cage is in my bedroom where he hangs out and talks to himself sometimes, I can only understand a few words occasionally. He sounds like Donald Duck and talks low so it is hard to hear him clearly. ;D
(and that is not a growth on his neck, he had just eaten and that is his crop full )
-
I don't think I ever introduced Mac, he has been here since before Max. He is a Sun Conure and is Stella's man. ;) They share a cage together and are 2 feathered monkeys, lol! He is older than Stella and has his adult coloring (He was hatched 1/26/07, Stella's hatch date is 11/24/07). Stella is getting more of her adult coloring in. They bicker sometimes (Stella likes to take whatever Mac has especially if it is food 8)) but they always make up. :)
-
LOL you have three birds now!?!?! :o
They are lovely! :D

The bird is a low talker....in your house?
That will be sure to change.

LOL you have three birds now!?!?! :o
They are lovely! :D
Mac was at the same place that I got Stella so I went and got him, and Max I knew he had to get out of the local mainly dogs/cats. They have the birds in a hall way and all the commotion and noise, they do the best they can do but his plucking got worse the 2 months he was there. The woman told me he really didn't like anyone there (the one guy who feeds the birds showed me the wound Max gave him!) and so I was thinking it would be the same with me and I asked her to get him out of the cage and she said go ahead. I was like okay, get the bandaids ready!! But he came right over and stepped up on my finger like he was ready to go. I started crying right there, so he picked me. She asked if I wanted to think about it a day or so and I said "nope, he can't stay here another day" and that was that. :) Quakers are known to be protective of their cage, the first week he would be stepping onto me whenever I had my hand in the cage, even if I just was putting food in, but a week later he was settled in and started defending his home, lol! He will give me warning lunges but I can do anything I want in his cage with him in there, I just can't get him out onto my hand from in there. I leave the door open and he comes out on his own or I get a small towel and he comes over and steps on it and bites it a few times, then has no problem coming on me. It's in his genetics to defend his cage and this works for us. He knows he is coming out when he sees the towel and wants to come out, but he still has to be a tough guy and show it who's boss. ;D
~weed~ when it arrives please post a pic of Max in his sock :D
I haven't ordered them yet and the instructions but will do! I would like him to be accepting and wearing them before the winter so he can stay warm.
I'm going to get Max some Sock Buddys and the instructions to make my own from socks. http://www.thesockbuddy.com/ Will make it so he can't chew and pluck his feathers, and keep him warm in the winter. He is not a mutilator so he can remain 1/2 bald for all care, but he will be cold in the winter, and if it will help him break or lessen the plucking habit then that would be a plus.
The bird is a low talker....in your house?
That will be sure to change.
;)
He is very quiet when he is downstairs. He really only talks when he is hanging out by himself. I will be watching tv and he will start talking away in or on his cage. Sounds like a whole conversation going on! He will say "hello" to me sometimes, and "c'mon " and I think I got him to say "sexy" once, and he will laugh, but I don't understand some other words. I don't know what he learned in his 5 years so trying to decipher them can be difficult when he doesn't say them really loud.
A few pics I just snapped of Mac and Stella on the hanging gym:

Happiness for a dog:
He looks pretty happy there.
Is his mouth all pink or is it marbled black & pink.
Our is marbled & unfortunately...the breed desired is all black. Funny thing though....it's very hard to find a Rottie with a black mouth. I think that part of the breeding standard could be permanently changed.

Wow...all grown up. Where does the time go?
Yeah, he's pretty much finished growing (thank god).
As all dogs do...he may gain a few pounds here or there in his adult hood, but otherwise, he's all finished growing. The only problem is that he still acts like he's a scrapping 6 mo. old pup. He will try & jump up in my arms & grabs ahold of my pant leg when I'm not looking. The other week I was in the bedroom & I wasn't paying attention & looked to my left for a brief second. He jumped up for me to catch him & luckily the bed was behind me because he knocked me down like it was nothing. My upper back was stiff for 2-3 days.

The size of his head makes people do double takes. Because he's so big like a bear, I'm surprised so many people want to come over & pet him. I've even had people that wanted to hug him. He's good natured & I trust he won't do anything mean or wrong, but I'm always afraid he'll knock them over because he wiggles his butt & swings it around so fast that he can take out your knees. So I usually try to judge the person before I say yes or no. If it's children, I automatically say no because he can easily outweigh them & knock them over like a rag doll.

If he mauled a child to death (something you cannot entirely exclude as a possibility) and said family tried to sue you, would you hire an attorney or simply acknowledge responsibility?

Maybe one of these days. I'd like to get one of him running.

Sure it's a possibility. It's also a possibility that I as a person could kill a child or maul one too.
and said family tried to sue you, would you hire an attorney or simply acknowledge responsibility?
There's a dumb question so I am going to answer you like an idiot so you would have better understanding,
If I just decided one day to pounce on a child till it's lifeless body is dragged all over the place by my teeth, then I get arrested, & have to go to court on murder charges....shouldn't I still have a lawyer to process the legal procedures as the Prosecution could sue for a gatrillion dollars? I need a defense lawyer to explain there's such thing as a gabillion, but we'll settle for gabillion.
::)
OJ Simpson would get a lawyer.

I just think that some dogs have more aggression genetically programmed into them, developed over decades, centuries or in some cases millenia. I think it is safe to say that grey hounds are generally more docile and gentle than pitbulls or dobermans.

Then you've never lived with a Rottweiler
I grew up raising Labradors. At one point, we had 5 in the same house. I will say they are more naturally aggressive that a Rottweiler. You're also talking to a guy that goes & enters dog shows. Rottweilers always get the bad rap for whatever reason but it's the little 20lb dog that if you're not watching, will bite you a take a chunk out of you. Most Rottweilers act very juvenile & immature. Ever play with a puppy? Well, thats pretty much a Rottweiler.
You should really educate yourself first hand with the specific breeds before making any claims. I would also go far as saying that all pitbulls are the same way that I've experienced except for the ghetto drug dealer dogs.
Oh...greyhounds....sure they race them because they're fast...but they are also a breed with a high prey drive.
You're come across pretty dumb the more you write
-

I agree.
Dobermans are obedient dogs, listen very well. I don't know that much about Rottweilers. From what I have been reading lately they seem to be great dogs with the Right owners.
Its not the dogs it's the owners.
I think I was reading on dobermantalk forum. One person who posts there has said alot of good things about rotties. He/She? is a former police dog/pp trainer.

Sure there is bad Rotties just like every breed. Usually it comes down to how they are handled. Some people don't realize there's things you should never do with a dog. One thing is beating or hitting them if they do something wrong. Thats not the way to correct unwanted behaviour. All it does is establish is a unbalanced & dangerous behaviour in dogs. I've always had a good relationship with dogs. Sure I've been bit by them, but it's because I didn't see or watch carefully of some certain dynamics. I treat our dog & every other dog out there like a dog. I think thats real important. Dogs will come to you, there's no need to go to them. If there not coming to you, leave them alone. I was recently at a friends place where they are fostering a male pug. I was on the ground underneath a car paying no attention to the 5 dogs running around my feet at there house. I personally didn't realize that they had fostered this new guy & didn't really pay attention to him. To me, I just thought he was part of the pack. Anyways, my friends mother came out & was surprised to see him laying next to me. I asked her why & she said he doesn't usually like men & will run away from them. I guess his former owner used to pull him around by his tail & was very hard on him. Anyways, this little guy wouldn't leave my side. Everytime I looked down at him, his tail was wagging & was very happy. Now I didn't do anything special to this dog. Hell, I didn't even pet him. I just treated him like I did with all of her other dogs I've known for many years.
-

So by this I take it you have never owned a pitbull? I have two and a 5 month old daughter and I have never seen two dogs take so well to a baby. Our little girl lays on our blue chocalate and last night wouldn't quit laughing when her mom was pulling her away from him and then he would try to lick her and my wife would pull her away. They are best friends. Our other dog is very protective of her. He lays next to her anytime that she is in her toy, he is also the one that sleeps at the foot of her basinet. The kids in the nieghborhood love when we walk our dogs because they all get a chance to pet them and play with them... hmmm sounds like pitbulls are real KILLERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here's a couple more shots of Lucan. found him on an Indian reserve a few years ago. may be part wolf? howls and goes crazy at the full moons.

i don't agree with that as pits especially were bred not to bite and were bred to be children caretakers/watchers (granted people have ruined the breeds reputation and not bred them to breed standards). Greyhounds can be highstrung, but generally are sweet. they have a high HIGH prey drive.

Stella was originally a dweetir. :D
Stella's still a dweetir! lol
This is Ahab. He is a Quaker who about a month ago had his leg bitten by a Congo African Grey and it had to be amputated. His owner did not want to deal with his special needs so the bird shelter took him in and he is now with me. I renamed him Ahab. He gets around really good, birds use their beaks as a foot already so he just has to do it all the time. I have set his cage up so he can maneuver around good, perches are reachable to each other or to the cage bars, also ramps, and he has stuff to lean against to take some weight off the remaining leg and foot. Making sure that foot stays healthy is a priority so he needs plenty of different surfaces to grip and rest on.

He's not perfect. :P None of my Quakers are, It's the Land of Misfit Quakers at my house! lol Although having a fully feathered Quaker is weird!
Max (who just got done pigging out and is gonna blow) and Olive (who tries to compete with him but I think Max will always win!)

he's hating the cold and does not like walking in the snow a bit .. so he get's bursts of about 20 minutes / twice a day of zooming around inside and I just keep my feet up and let him go :D
He's sooooo cute!! :D I love the white on his chest! He would fit right in with my big guys!! I could tell people he is a really really tiny Dane! ;D
-

Updated picture of my pup. I will try and get some better quality shots up soon. Last time you guys saw him he was a year old. I love how he looks like he is in outer space as my brother is messing with his ears. Great dog! Very mellow and low hey.....unless you go near my lady.

He is a very noble-looking dog body88!

Yes. he thinks he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. He pokes his chest out and stands like that with the same look on his face when a female is around.

lol, wolf-grizzly is a common guess. he was wild on a reserve i was golfing on and i brought him home. amazing animal, had him about 6 years now. he is almost always with me, pretty spoiled.
-
he is a great looking dog. I am wanting a dog again so bad. Not sure which kind though. I have to fence my back yard.

funny thing is i didn't think i would ever have a dog, but when i saw this out on his own, there was no question he would be mine. he accepted me as alpha right away, and is totally gentle and calm. full moons drive him crazy though
-
lol, werewolf-grizzly. sometimes a dog and owner just find themselves. I had a min-spitz, about 25 punds or so. Had him for 16 years or so. he could be a little bitch though, lol.

We got about 3". One would think that my pits being short haired would hate the snow, but Chucka an Chaos be rolling around it and will play outside for hours. They are going to be a lil disappointed next year when we are back in Vegas and the snow is no where around.

i was in Arizona mid Dec. and Vegas got more snow than it's had since 1979!! i hate this global warming, haha. i was near Flagstaff and they got over one foot.

Rammstein, gorgeous dogs, great-looking scenery.

Look like you all share good times and great lives. Thank you!

Thanks but I have to give credit to my wife for this one. :) I think the golden sunlight here brings out the best in his coat.
Here is another one of his "hairy" tail. If he could have looked into the camera it would have been my favourite pic.

Give her the treat!
She looks like she could use a few more :D

She got the treat. Beleive me. I feed the girl well. If I try and "fatten" her up all she does is poop more which makes for very pleasant smells when I come home after work.

Two questions:
1. Isn't she house trained?
2. What are you feeding her?
Sounds like maybe her food has a lot of "fillers" and her body isn't utilizing all of it ???
-
Menace.....four yrs. old. Great dog. Totally laid back. Hasn't barked in two years.

Ben....1 yr old.

Yup. Dog's heads are made for kissin :)
-
I feed her canidae lamb and rice. She is house trained but stays in a crate all day. If she has to poop she has to poop I dont understand why people get hungup on a dog shitting its cage. I don't go 8-10 hours without a doo doo so why should I expect her to. She doesn't do it all the time though.
-
here's a pic of my exes rottie/cross doing the funny sit thing
-
Great Bully Magoo, had mine for 13 years, unusual for them to live so long, I was lucky.
Hazbin, awesome lookin dog, his stance is unbelieveable. Looks so at home laying in the snow.
All the dog pics here were great!

Menace with our new pup!

Close up of the pup. His mom is 1/2 shar-pei 1/2 rott, his dad is chow. Some lady was handing them out at the grocery store, and we fell in love.

Menace laying in bed with my wife, looking extra comfy!

BNB, is there anyway you can come home at lunch and let her out? Just because you can go 8-10 hours w/o pooping doesn't mean her body is on the same schedule.
Does she really have to stay in a crate for 8-10 hours :( Imagine if you had to stay in there that long. I know some dogs love their crates, but 8-10 hours seems too long to me, and the fact that she poops in there sometimes seems to confirm it. I wouldn't want to be inside a cage a bit larger than my body, having to doo so badly that I doo inches from myself and then sit there next to it for possibly hours :(
Can you please consider getting child gates or something and leaving her in the kitchen for that time period? You could put her crate in that area but leave it open so she can sleep in there but be able to roam about a bit. Maybe put some nice toys in the kitchen area too. :) And of course water. Do you put water in her crate?
I hope I didn't offend. If you lived near me, I would come and let her out as my schedule is pretty flexible. I'm sure chances of that are small and maybe you have another friend that could let her out? PM me w/your state if you like and if it's the same as mine we can go from there. I could give you references from cops and my Vet if you like :)
-
No offense taken, although I don't need to be guilt tripped into taking care of my dog.
Shes a straight up baby and sleeps in my bed and on the couch and wherever she pleases, gets walks, treats, tons of attention, so I'd say she has it pretty good.
It's not likely that I can keep here anywhere else. It's usually only for the 8 hours. She is a power chewer and if shes let stay somewhere all day with access to anything she can get her teeth on it's lights out.
I said I DO NOT expect her to be able to hold it all day but I can't get to my house during the day to let her out. I don't live that close. I try to keep her on a schedule and it works most of the time. I've been running with her too so that should keep things regular at the right times.
I think vet actually lives in the same state as me. We had a small discussion on the proposed Ohio pit bull ban.

OK thanks BNB...I'm glad I didn't offend! I'm not in Ohio. Sometimes the power-chewing only lasts for the first year or 2!
-
Yeah shes pretty far into her second year. She doesnt try to eat the coffee table like she used to as a pup but I'm sure if I left her out for the day shed have a meltdown and I'd have some repairs to make.

Here is my new edition to the Hustle Man clan. Everyone, meet Sam! He is a 10 weeks old Mastiff/Black Lab mix (aka Mastador), we rescued him from the local shelter.

Lab face, but the muzzle & the rest of the body looks mastiff for sure

Totally agree. Here are some pics of what he is suppose to grow into (except for the brindle coat of course). He has adjusted well the family after this first week (like he has always been here).
-
Possible. If he's lab, he may not end up as thick as that dog unless the Lab line had a huge male.
I will bet the head will have a different shape based on the pup's picture.

Cell phone pic....Ill take some high quality shots with the digi when it gets warmer out. He was a muddy mess today. I wanted to take some video of him blasting across the yard, but it was raining. He is a site to see when he is running full tilt. I never thought a 100 pound dog could be as agile as he is.

I bet it's tough to leave those babies for extended periods :(

Yep that is a Berner, her name is Nelly and she's a Katrina dog. Her mother was rescued from a puppy mill down there and gave birth. She is the runt and only one who survived. I love the breed and will always have atleast one. If anybody wants a great famliy dog that loves kids, doesn't drool and is very gentle, atleast with kids..these are the perfect dogs. The other guy is our blue healer...blue. His original name was cupid or some stupid crap. I am a "rescue only" owner. My wife makes sure I get plenty of pics of them. My other guy is a golden but he sleeps with his head under the bed and wasn't interested in pics when these were taken.

The amount of money I spent heating my home last winter was outrageous and has me contemplating a move .. all the little apartments near my job do not allow pets .. so I'll wait it out and then make the move .. and wear extra clothes inside during winters until his time comes :-\

I thought you said you would not get another pup ???
Name?
I know .. I tried to resist :)
he's growing quickly
I mulled this over for awhile ( months ).. then when the gas meter reader walked right into my door because Smudge was hiding I decided I want some protection and I have the time now during springtime to train him and enjoy the weather
"Boyd" .. he'll be 9 weeks on Wednesday .. at his check up 2.5 weeks ago he weighed 7lbs 7 oz .. I had him sit on my home scale and it says 11 lbs today :D
Great looking pup you got there W8M8!!....what is his/her name?....im guessing its a girl am i right?
Thank you E-M ;D .. his mom is a full reg'd english bully .. and his Dad is a chocolate brown pitbull / english bully mix .. I don't think he's going to be really short legged english in stature and his ropes aren't coming in too deep so it'll be interesting to see him grow
he's a smart pup .. in 2 weeks he's learned sit speak shake and almost fetch ... the stay and come bit is not sinking in yet as a command .. he thinks those are optional still LOL
-
^^^
LOL im sure he will catch on to stay and come soon enough.
I like the brindle and white pattern.
-
Im sorry i called Boyd a girl hahaa...im so used to big dogs that i find it hard to see the sex in a smaller breed....and he is playing with a purple toy in the pictures lol... ;)
I understand your need to protect yourself in your own home! I am not a little man and my wife sure can handle herself when in need but the feeling of a good dog protecting you and your loved ones when i'm not there to protect them is priceless... :'(
I hope you get to enjoy Boyd for a very long time and make sure to post his progress pictures girl... :)
-
Boyd is adorable :)
Also, euro monster thinks all poodles are girls.

he's a good pup .. finally for 4 nites now ( knock wood ) he doesn't cry all nite ( I put country music on a radio for him to sleep to hoping it's depressing lol ) .. he is funny to watch play .. he's got the clumsiness of a big baby and I rofl when he tumbles and gets up and barks like something invisible knocked him over :D
he is growing fast !! .. I just have to keep pulling grass out of his mouth .. every time we go out he chomps up a huge clump of mowed grass and rolls around in the rest

I'm hoping he's going to be protective ... he's still pretty docile .. not that being that way is a bad thing as he still is a pup ... I just don't want him to allow people to come into my house without me saying OK

The better you get them socialist the better they understand good from wrong ....if they know what good people are and how they behave they can recognize the bad people with no problem what so ever... ;)

Would've been nice to have them together as babies but the dog belonged to my brother so I got her when he moved away a couple years ago.

you'll be heartbroken for a long time missing him he was a great pal
Getting a new pup is a decision that may help lessen the hurt and emptiness , you had Lucan as a dog not a new pup so it will be different for you . I think it would be good if you want another dog . Cane Corso's are my favorite's and they are beautiful animals and devoted pets. The time and energy training a new pup will take your mind off losing Lucan somewhat and allow you to love another dog that much .Every dog deserves to be loved as much as you loved Lucan.
-
My Mastiff..........
Very beautiful dog you got there mcluvin...my wife and i have had Mastino Napolitano's for over 12 years.
After our last dog died we sweared to never have another dog again....but that is almost two years ago and we are searching for a breeder as i write this... :-[
We are looking into the Old English Mastiff for our next breed ...you recommand one?
-
We had one before this English Mastiff and we missed him so much I finally just started searching the puppy finder in the Midwest. Found a lady that has a farm outside West Lafayette Indiana. The pics of this guy as a puppy made me melt. He looked like my last English. We loaded up the family and made the drive one day. Fell in love with him on the spot. Really I can't recomend anyone, just search and be patient. These dogs really are gentle giants.
-
Thanks for aswering but i meant the breed in general.. :)
If you drive for a day to see a puppy you might aswel bring money with because you know you will buy that pup as soon as you get there... ;D

Breed in general for me has been the English Mastiff in tan with black mask. First one was Rocco, second one was Ox. Nothing like them for family loyalty. We also had an English Bulldog for a while. What a fucking personality he had. 85 lbs when he passed. I'd say the English Bulldog is a close second.
Yes, I had cash in pocket.....lol. You also never take your kids if your iffy about the purchase. Once those kids start huggin the 25 pound puppy it's game over. ;D

I will dig one or two out of our photo box and scan them soon. My youngest got them out about a month ago for a school project and I got choked up like a little bitch.....lol. My youngest saw I was getting emotional and got upset. I'll look for them on my day off.

This is the latest addition to our family:
Little Ninjin was found wandering about all on his own in a nearby park. Apparently someone kicked him out of the house at just a few weeks old. We adopted him via the local animal shelter.
He's now a healthy, happy and extremely playful 9-weeks-old. :)
Hopefully our two older cats will accept him soon.

He can be quite demanding at times...
Tommie, our 13y cat was very ill. He had a bladderinfection with high fever, which can be dangerous and sometimes fatal to old male cats. Luckily he's (slowly) getting better, but I still have to force feed him with a lactosefree milk and medicine mix. Try doing that with a fluffy red Tasmanian devil hanging on your hands, trying to steal that milk.
Still, he's adorable when he runs around with a toy mouse. :)

Whew! This is a lot of pets. Between my daughter's two dogs and our two, there are four in our house now that my daughter and her family moved in with us. They all get along and are well behaved. Lucy, our little Rat Terrier, is the leader of the pack and she is also the smallest at 18 lbs.
-
Rat Terriers are pretty cute. Look like they would have a ton of energy as well. Also what I've read on them they seem to be very smart dogs. What breeds are the other three you have?
Cooke, Shadow, and Molly are mixed. With that, I'm not sure. Been told several things with the last being part chihuahua and part pekinese. Roxy is my blood hound. Big goofy girl. Oh and I forgot to mention a 5th addition to my dog's. Molly's pup. Just a week old. Happened to have opened her eyes today.
My ferret is Booboo. Amazing animal. Surprisingly incredibly smart.
My cats are Fluffenstein, Patch, B.A., Garlic, Tange, Blacky, Crazy, and Fluff E'nuff. American Tabbies. They range in personalities. From Fluffenstein's laid back attitude to B.A. being incredibly unpredictable.
I have an assortment of chickens. Road Island Reds, Game, Leghorns, even used to have Silkies. The kind that grows fur instead of feathers.
The rabbit is named Snowball. Not completely sure on the breed.

Lucy our Rat Terrier is smart. Currently she is the only dog we have with papers. She is completely wired all the time, proving the theory that you can't get fat if you stay in motion. Unfortunately, she also barks at everything which gets really annoying sometimes particularly when she incites the other dogs to bark too. Then it sounds like a kennel here.
Her 80 lb. companion for the last seven years is Danny. Danny a rescue dog is a mix between an Irish Wolfhound and a black Labrador. He's very scary looking and he is also the mellowest dog you could ever meet.
The new arrivals, (been here since late January) are Mattie and Cooper. Mattie is a Border Collie rescue puppy. She's pretty bright and a lot calmer than Lucy. Cooper is the baby. He is only a year old. He is your basic mutt and also a rescue dog. He has curly hair and an elongated body. He's shy and sweet.
One reason we no longer have a cat is because I am allergic to them. When I found this out we had a cat we really loved, so I got allergy shots once a week to fend off the symptoms. We'd had cats before too. For some reason, our cats acted more like dogs than cats, with the exception of them being more independent.
My parents always had at least two and sometime more dogs all the while I was growing up. We also had a small one acre weekend farm, which we stocked with chickens, ducks, turkeys, rabbits, Guinea pigs, goats, sheep, a couple of horses and two pigs, which my parents had butchered when the neighbors complained.
My mom was afraid of cats. She insisted that in a past life she was a Mayan Indian and was killed by a large cat....yeah, she was a little different.

Wow!! His eye's were so amazing! Such a beautiful and primal look. Kinda reminds me of the werewolf from An American Werewolf In London.

But, man, I feel for ya. I remember when I lost my poodle. I literally had dreams of him not being dead and was just lost and found his way home again. Still remember all the things he would do.

Whoa! A lab/Irish wolfhound mix. That sounds interesting. I had a lab/pit bull mix. Big baby to humans. Wasn't so nice to anything else besides his immediate pack. I remember he would chase after birds he saw in the air. One time while running full speed after one flying, he crashed into the side of my sister's truck. No negative reaction from him at all. Immediately got right back up and continued the chase. He was at 100 pounds. Big guy. Not as big as a bull mastiff I had. 6 months old and was hitting over 100 pounds.
Sounds like you have a pretty good pack there. I bet it feels amazing just arriving home and having them all excited to see you. :)
I live on a farm and have had just about every animal you've mentioned there. I live out in the sticks. So, no real neighbors to complain about anything. Plus I get to see all the wild life. Coyotes are common around here.
Haha! Yes, sounds like she was a believer in reincarnation. I've heard many stories about people remembering past life events. My mom was a believer herself after reading a bunch of Sylvia Browne books. ;D
