Music sucks
Always has sucked
I can see how you would make that assumption.
ole Falcon can throw some hands hey? Looks like he'd gas inside 30 seconds but gawd forbid getting lit up by one of his lefts
Pantera / Old Metallica / Slayer here.
Tool too - but that's not Metal.
Been a diehard since 1982.
Never wavered.
Own over 4,000 CDs and 700 music DVDs.
On Wednesday I went to a concert featuring Decapitated (didn't make it over the border >:(), Soilwork and Soulfly. Was awesome.
Tonight I bought the newest live U.D.O. CD/DVD.
Each and every week I purchase anywhere from two to 10 discs.
My favourite bands are: Rush (my first musical love), Annihilator, Pagan's Mind, Decapitated, Fates Warning, Meshuggah, Emperor, Ratt, Monstrosity, Maiden, Priest, In Flames, Iced Earth, (old) Queensryche (new one with the new singer is quite good!), Accept, Pantera, Death, Night Ranger, Winger, Morbid Angel, Obscura, Slayer, Gojira, Dio, etc., etc., etc.
I literally could list DOZENS of other bands, too.
I have one room in my condo dedicated to all my CDs and paraphernalia.
1) I love quality bands in all substyles of metal. Trad., thrash, power, black (mostly the initial second-wave Norwegian groups, though), death (own HUNDREDS of classic and contemporary albums), hard rock, pop (hair), speed, progressive, etc.
B) Metal is the blood that flows in my veins.

No Steeler or Keel?
1) This is where I stopped caring about labels, just got too confusing. (Not attacking.)
B) Yes! Though maybe more 'hard rock' these days.
*) Dude, how many songs on your iPod/Pad/whatever right now?
Ron Keel sang for Steeler, didn't he? Was Yngwie on Guitar?
Anyways, huge metal fan from way back, too many to name... All the classic bands from Accept to Zoetrope.
Liked a ton that weren't mainstream (Hallows Eve, Leige Lord, Agent Steel, etc). Music of today blows... (A few good ones, thats about it).
tonight I played thunder kiss 65, bob marley and 38 other rock standards.
tomorrow it's "somewhere over the rainbow" on ukulele, then some pretty flamenco for a wedding ceremony.
damn it feels good to be a gangster.

went to see wasp two weeks ago
their new album is their best yet
33 years since their first
Grew up with metal... Still love a bit pantera/anthrax/megadeath
Its good to widen your horizon's tho.....
Saw video. Blackie may not look so good anymore, but the vocals are still sick.

Yes, sir. These guys played in my little ghetto town in '83. Two future legends, crazy. Nowheresville. Year or two later I saw Yngwie with Hiroshima, I think (?), opened for Ratt in L.A. Paul Bonnet singing, maybe, sound familiar?
Just found out that Maiden is playing Madison Square Garden in March 8)
...two bands I've seen live the most are Maiden and Pearl Jam.
awesome

Have you heard any of the new Maiden album?
I have everything from Mayhem, Emperor, Immortal, Shining, Dimmu Borgir and other black stuff, love Severe Torture and few brutal-death bands, and of course progressive-avantgarde like Arcturus, Winds, Age Of Silence, Power-Melodic stuff like Dragonland and Blind Guardian included... Started with Morbid Angel and Pantera back in the days, with their pre-groove period included, love the Power Metal album, then Megadeth, liked Iron Maiden for a bit but not that much, hated Metallica, they always seemed poserish to me... Big fan of Racer X, Mr Big and Paul Gilbert stuff, and Faith No More with Jim Martin on guitar... I can also listen to Hall & Oates and Spandau Ballet, love me some 80s stuff with legit musicians, or old Jamiroquai for that matter... Big fan of movies-videogames soundtracks also... Pretty much this, i'm sure i forgot something...
I really like the old high pitched metal vocals with melodic chord progressions. Danzig, helloween, old metallica, Omen, manowar, some bathory, sabbath., Hammerfall, Sortilege, Anything with dark imagery. I found alot of old great metal by using spotify and checking "similar artists tab".
Sometimes ill listen to some black metal nordic shit if im in the mood for that annoying low grumble/screaming but it HAS to have a good melody and riffs
For newer metal, i cam across this canadian band Skullfist, and they blew me the fuck away with this...they are really bringing that style back in a big way...
skullfist are awesome

Severe Torture hauls ass. Own all the band's CDs.Oh yes, same here, all CDs... Great riffing and compositions, they've always been a bit overlooked in the brutal-death scene compared to more famous bands, but they are as good as anyone, thay are my favorites in that genre...
I know Alcatrazz was a band with Graham Bonnet (Rainbow / Michael Schenker) and Yngwie for a while...
Did you happen to catch the opener shattered sun fortress?
Nickelback is pretty awesome. New Bon Jovi album rocks pretty hard too.
Nickelback is pretty awesome. New Bon Jovi album rocks pretty hard too.
Metal Evolution is a must see for all lovers of Metal/Hard Rock. They usually show all the episodes periodically on VH1 Classic, late Saturday nights, every few months. Not sure if it is on Youtube yet.
I went through various forms of metal like many others do. If I recall correctly, I bought my first album, Appetite for Destruction, by Gun's 'n' Roses, at age eight or nine. From there, I got into Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Suicidal Tendencies, and the like, pretty much all the major basic metal and thrash bands of the late 80's and early 90's. I continued to listen to metal in junior high school, but then came across a weirdo punk-turned-White Power skinhead in gym class who rattled off a bunch of bands in the death metal, hardcore punk, and thrash genres. So from then on I got into both death and hardcore bands: Death, Morbid Angel, Carcass, Entombed, Dismember for death metal, and Agnostic Front, Exploited, Discharge, Sick of it All, old Black Flag, Minor Threat, and the like for hardcore. This was in the early 90's and CB's still had the matinees on Sundays. I said no thanks to his invitation because fighting, gangs, and graffiti writing were not my things, but I continued to listen. Then I got into harder thrash, like Sodom, Kreator, Dark Angel, and so on. And then when that made its mark, I moved onto some black metal, like Darkthrone, Mayhem, Graveland, and so on. That shit can get corny, but some of it is great. Plus a lot of it is National Socialist (e.g., Thor's Hammer, Goatmoon, Satanic Warmaster), which is a bit much for most people, but whatever, some of the bands are very good.Saw them live around 2003 for the Heretic tour, great stuff, talked a bit with Sandoval and other members, also Krisiun as a support band... Basically Morbid Angel ended in that period with that album, don't care for them now...
I saw Morbid Angel live. It was great.
Unless someone mentioned Kreator this thread is more useless than Father's Day in the ghetto.
Own every CD and every DVD. How 'bout you, tough guy?
Also: Deicide
Was spinning Overkill's "Horrorscope" today. Wondering who else is big on the metal shit. I love me some older '80s thrash metal and stuff like early Morbid Angel, etc.
Music sucks
Always has sucked
Saw Godflesh in Boston a few weeks ago; seeing Prong at the Rock & Shock convention in a week.
Since the early 80s. Prefer classic heavy, old school death and black metal and some classic thrash as well. Don't care much for bands after 2000 or so and hate the whole nu/alternative/(c)rap metal.
Will see Judas Priest, Mayhem and Rotting Christ live next month, Maiden and Nile next year. Good times.
Own every CD and DVD. How 'bout you, twinkle tits?
Go away, I'm enjoying my twinkly tits.

You can't beat Freddie! I'm not gay but Queen were a good band ^^
Go away
Sure it does. saw df live in 2009-ish with Eluveitie of all bands. Weird lineup.
Eluveitie is quite enjoyable actually, went to a few "paganfests". But found that their live-music always lacks enormously in soundquality...
Some russian stuff (verging on death/metal-core):
No mention of Generation Kill with the IFBB Pro drummer?
The first album by Death Dealer (2013), was pretty awesome (power metal). (Ross the Boss from ManOwaR).
Their new one is on its way to my house from Amazon, should arrive today...
Not big on italian power metal because the riffs oftentimes have NO BALLS.
I like metal as well guys, mainly power metal.. Rhapsody and Manowar are my favourite bands.
Unless someone mentioned Kreator this thread is more useless than Father's Day in the ghetto.
How was Godflesh?
I like metal as well guys, mainly power metal.. Rhapsody and Manowar are my favourite bands. As some of you know I used to be a long haired "metalhead" as a teenager. If you like Power check out swedish band Dragonland, phenomenal band with amazing compositions and solos... They are my favorites in the genre...
Here is a lesser known Power metal band for you.
1:45-2:20 epic as fuark.

^^Love Ian Gillians vocals in this.
LISTEN TO THIS, & WATCH THE VIDEO:
I like anything metal. The heavier the better. Music for men.x2 mr Malmsteen/Randy.... 8)
Stryker was pretty good. Still have one of their bibles I caught at the concert.
Stryper
Michael Sweet looks fantastic for his age btw.
Hoffmann is God................ 8) 8)
And awesome guitar solo by Wolf Hoffman:
Accept. Probably the most underrated heavy metal band. Even though I preferred them with Udo, Mark Tortilla does a great job as singer. But I really didn't know Accept existed any more.... 8)

Like these guys, cool documentary on them, from toronto, still playing.Terrific old school.....Love this.
I'll meet you half way.
Skid Row
Skid Row is straight up metal for sure, first two albums are killer.
Don't care for much black metal, especially the older stuff. It mixes well with other styles, though. See: Behemoth
Was just watching this 2014 live version of this song with AXL's version of GNR and his voice and energy are par with the old Axl especially as the song gets to the halfway point on
Now that him and Slash are buddies again it would be nice if they could recapture that kind of energy again for a final blowout tour
PS-I know this is not the real guns blah blah blah, not my point here, point is to show present Axl performing somewhat like past Axl. And in all fairness, those guys he hired are good muscians, one of which co-wrote and produced Saints of Los Angeles for Motley Crue.
Aside from that, the originals hooking up all at the same time wouldbe cool
Painful, couldn't finish.
Painful, couldn't finish.
Horrible indeed, and it doesn't comes close to metal.
:'(
peace offering
I mentioned helloween earlier. Walls of Jericho is amazing
Yeah I don't like the sword, not into that stuff at all
:'(
peace offering
Latest Accept cd hits number 1 in Finland and Germany and ranks in the top 10 in other countries across Europe.
North America doesn't even know they exist. Bieber and Swift top the charts here. Disgraceful.
Can't say I've kept track post-Udo, but this doesn't sound bad at all. Classic Accept was Priest-like dependable, knew what you were getting, and it was gonna shred.

Own the entire discographies of both Accept and U.D.O. Accept's recent three reformation albums are solid, but the last several U.D.O. offerings have been awesome.
My U.D.O. collection is well over 25 CDs. Haha. And I just bought that Navy Metal DVD. Cost me 35 bucks.
What is this?
It's Udo and his merry men performing with some military orchestra. Pretty good. Don't know how often I'll spin it, but it's a requirement for my collection, naturally. My other U.D.O. DVDs get regular viewings.
His two new guitarists have added a lot, in my opinion. Not that the other dude wasn't good.
Heard America/Canada wouldn't even pay the band enough to support a tour (per Blabbermouth). What happened to our people, dude?
http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/udo-dirkschneider-says-money-problem-is-to-blame-for-u-d-o-s-absence-from-america/
Quiet Riot....fuck yeah, haven't heard that name in 20 years...saw them life once, a century ago.
I'm not that big on black metal but Limbonic Art is intense. It is like a wall of sound!
Excellent choice, Limbonic Art is a very underrated band. Another great Limbonic Art track:
Yup, Love IAD too. Album has such a unique atmosphere/aesthetic.
Misanthropic Spectrum is my jam.
On a more tame note, I checked out both new Queensryche albums, and am underwhelmed by both. And this is coming from a huge fan of The Warning and Rage for Order.
Taking Over ... a great album. Saw Overkill a bunch of times back in the day, including the legendary L'Amour in Brooklyn, NY.
Forbidden is quite underrated.
Twisted into Form, Step By Step!
Not metal but I know there are a few Rush fans here, good interview with Neil Peart, who doesn't really do interviews
Fixed
Those guys did a great cover of Children of The Sea a few years ago -.
The channel it's on used to have great coverage of lots of shows in the western half of the States. Here was another video of St. Vitus that they shot a bit ago that I liked quite a bit -.
Rapture
Awesome, under rated album!!! Second ranked Morbid Angel album (after the all mighty and untouchable Altars of Madness) IMO--much better the massively over rated "Blesssed.." which was too slow and lacking aggression...
converting songs to my new mp3 for the gym, gonna take alot of the ones you guys listed here.
here is another oldie I found, the late Bon Scott was something else
Pre hardcore. 1.6 million people after the fall of the Soviet Union. I don't think we will ever see this in our lifetime again. It ain't like like the Muslims Semites are going to open their arms to this sort of stuff. The light Evil days are over. Shit is now all totally fucking gay and dark... :-\
^
That was an epic performance!
OK I know Cinderella was kinda Glam Metal to some of the closed minded killjoys but Tom Keifer's story is nothing short of a miracle. Guy was not supposed to be able to sing ever again after a bunch of surgeries failed to correct the paralysis with his left vocal chords.
Guy warms up and exercises his vocal chords daily longer than his shows.
This starts off slow and acoustic and then kicks in midway.
Anyways I like the fucking song
No killjoy here, I dug Cinderella. Heavy bluesy rock, much better than the standard hairfare.
Pantera / Old Metallica / Slayer here.
Tool too - but that's not Metal.
In other words, you were a mainstream metal fan. ::)
In other words, you were a mainstream metal fan. ::)
:)I saw them on this tour at the at the Erlanger theater in Philly with Kansas. My favorite concert of all time!
Some killer trad/speed metal stuff from the '80s I dig
80's: Venom, Slayer, Possessed, Celtic Frost, Napalm Death, Repulsion, Anal girl, etc. were the best of the lot.^^
90's: Morbid Angel, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, etc. were best bands I heard or saw live that decade.
2000-10: Insect Warfare, Centurian, Prostitute Disfigurement, MeatShits, Anal Blast, Mesrine, etc. grindcore ;D
Current: ??? Not sure who is putting out current Death Metal and Grindcore ???
Perfect metal albums IMO: Possessed "7 Churches;" Slayer "Hell Awaits & Reign in Blood;" Mesrine "Going to the Morgue;" Centoaph "Puked Genital Purlency;" Insect Warfare "World Extermination;" Terrorizer "World Downfall;" Morbid Angel "Alters of Maddness;" Deicide "S/T & Legion;" Cannibal Corpse "Tomb of the Mutilated & The Bleeding;"
Any of the above albums are true extreme metal classics and still kick ass :-) Any other Death Metal or Grind core fans have any to add? Anything current I should check out based on these tastes? I have been to some amazing fests and shows like Maryland Deathfest, and LA Murderfest and stumbled on some of the more obscure bands listed, need to find new killer metal....

Another CLASSIC!!!!!
Thepritz0: great find, old Venom was the best! ;D "Welcome to Hell" and "Black Metal" are true classics. A lot of people don't know Slayer and even Metallica have OPENED for Venom in early 80's!

Yes, back in the day Venom was always the headlining band.

Huge Venom fan, seen them with most lineups. The reunion back in 1995 was quite an exciting time and Cast in Stone was a gem.
BB related, Cronos used to lift, Mantas was into martial arts as well.

A great track for my brutal pilates workout, thanks!
Going to see Megadeth, Children of Bodom in March.
Chris Adler (LOG drummer) will be sitting in with Megadeth. Alexi Laiho, who is one of my favorite metal shred guitarists is fronting COB. Pretty psyched to watch both of these guys play.
Megadeth surprising listenable again after Supercollider.
Just saw Sabbath last night. First half of the show was sounding pretty good till Oz got too tired and fucked up the second half. Not bad for 67 or though. Music was killer throughout.
Is the dude from Rage and Soundgarden still playing drums ???
Yep. He's in Ozzy's band too.
He's a real good drummer. always thought him and the bass player from Rage and Soungarden had a great pocket.
Only DIO for me.
Are you an old fart wearing spandex pants, long hair, but bald on the top?^^

Jesus, lookin like absolute shit.
Guess I misunderstood some of those older Vulgar Display of Power lyrics. Lol
If I recall, his back is all fucked up from years of jumping around on stage. He looks okay I guess, considering what he has been through.
And new Prong in a few days:

Nice!
That Prong teaser sounds great!
He had surgery for it, but I think he still may be hooked.
And the allegations of him being a neo-Nazi go back a ways. You'd think he'd just admit it already.

Fear Factory and Prong will both be here in southern New England this spring, and going to see The Cult in a month.
Saw FF years ago when they and Korn opened for Megadeth. It was when Remanufacture just came out. The drumming was insane to watch. Awesome live at that time. Korn sucked. And their gay Adidas outfits and crotch grabbing was so out of place.

Demanufacture, around 1995? You saw them at their best, I wish I was there!
My favorite bands during the years.
Started listening sometime in the 80s.
Bolt Thrower IV Crusade
Testament - Raging Waters
Testament - Do or Die
Onslaught - Power from Hell
Death - Infernal Death
Necrophagia - Season of the Dead
Piledriver - Metal Inquisition
Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales
Megadeths best song imo - Holy Wars
Burzum - Dunkelheit
Slayers best song - Black magic
I'm going to let you finish. But I just got to say, Deftones are the greatest band of all time.
I got a day pass for a Planet Fitness near where I was visiting the other day.
I found the one positive thing about this place other than the fact that the machines and everything are always well kept-very clean.
The played Queensryche on the PA system!
I've seen Anvil live twice since this movie came out. They put on a great show. A few years ago I saw Megadeth with Motorhead which was great, and I'm going to see Iron Maiden in a few weeks.
I don't own many albums but I download a ton of metal.
Black Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer, Motorhead, Judas Priest, Saxon, Iron Maiden,Trivium, Venom, Anvil, Megadeth, Anthrax, Kittie, Annihilator, Vovoid, Rise of Dissension, Exciterare some of my favorites.
I'm going to let you finish. But I just got to say, Deftones are the greatest band of all time..
Try the Progressive Beats thread, skirt.
Still not recovered? :D
Not going to knock your opinion, because that's your taste.
Myself, I just find them boring as hell. No hooks or riffs. Every song just seems to trudge along.
Ok Yngwie Malmsteen and Randy Roades.........let the madness begin !!!!
Uh ... OK.
Back to some metal ...
New Red Hot Chili Peppers.
That's rather beta-rockWay back (and I mean WAY back) when I played in the "Red Hot Tulpenbollen".....funkmetal stuff. We had lotsa fun though.. 8)
Yup, that MC album was a great surprise this year.
Overkill fucking ruled back thenmy first concert was Overkill in 1994. Blew me away, they were great.
my first concert was Overkill in 1994. Blew me away, they were great.
Dude I envy you. That lineup was their best live and the setlist around then was spectacular.
Fucking classic. It's May too so... yeah.
great song
brilliant solo by viviene campbell too
;)
Just finished my work to this:
My mind still blown by Maryland Deathfest last month ;D I have been pretty depressed and having a shitty existence lately but that (3 day) weekend really was amazing. Venom headlining was just insane to see up front live and if anyone knows of Hirax they are the best live thrash metal band ever. I've seen Slayer at least a dozen times but Hirax (seen twice) just put all out effort and enjoy playing to amp up crowd. Amazing fest, recommend anyone who likes any genre of metal, punk, hardcore whatever go cuz there is 4 stages (3 venues) and the most amazing time you can have.
The new Gojira, Magma, is amazing. Extremely song-oriented (not an easy feat in extreme metal) and wonderfully paced. Of course, it isn't the band's heaviest or most aggressive, but if you're a fan of this original, talented and charismatic group, who really cares?
Safe to say that GNR is really rocking the stadiums almost like the old days, only without the excesses
whoever shot this had a good camera and a good seat lol, one of my fave guns songs, great tune to train to
I thought after all these years Axl's voice was gone but he doesn't sound as terrible as I expected. Didn't know GnR had a keyboardist.
Levrone should come out to this ;D
Actually I think alot of the voice issues were also due to motivations, read recently that those recent tours were contract obligations with the record companies with the who Chinese Democracy thing.
All the shots/vids that have shown up in my youtube feed since they started has shown improvement every show and it actually looks like they are enjoying themselves. Perhaps putting aside the bad blood was a shot in the arm(no pun intended) that was overdue
some of the obvious songs he protects his voice and sings high instead of the falsetto screech for the obvious reason(they are fucking difficult for anyone ie you could be mine/sweet child) but most the old voice is coming out more and more each show
adler did a guest spot recently and supposedly will be more involved down the road but was getting over some back injury. Izzy retired from touring full time but alot of the music he puts out is pretty cool
I checked out that keyboardist chick, she is a pretty good composer and singer in her own right
One of the priginal metal bands, Judas Priest

Could never get into Venom. The riffs just aren't there.
True metal gods - on top of a very short list, along with Sabbath, Maiden, etc. British Steel and Screaming will forever be among the genre's best.Saw Priest last summer for the first time. Excellent as expected. The only thing I didn't care for was the annoying video screen back drop . Because simply, they don't need it! It's Judas Priest!
To my thinking, Priest is the most influential architect of what have become the truest fundamentals of the musical style known as heavy metal.Beyond the Realms of Death!! Beyond incredible.
Judas Priest is monster in the annals of the world's greatest musical genre.

I don't think Anselmo is a pole smoker. Perhaps he's sucked a knob or two, but I don't think he's a bonafide f aggot.

Embarrassed to ask, but what album is this song off of? Never heard it before. It's great.

Also this.
Set the World on Fire is my favorite Annihilator. I just like that singer's voice. A lot of their stuff sucks ass, especially after 1995ish
Got listening to this the other week and couldn`t get it out of my head.
Beavis & Butthead tore the hell out of those guys back in the day.
Was spinning Overkill's "Horrorscope" today. Wondering who else is big on the metal shit. I love me some older '80s thrash metal and stuff like early Morbid Angel, etc.
Cryptopsy, a great band from Canada. "None So Vile" is a classic.
Rocka Rolla
MAJOR metal fan here. I've

New Metallica is promising. At least it's not listenable.Master of Puppets revisited....
Edit: Meant to say "unlistenable," like St. Anger was.
This sound is nothing in the league of Master of Puppets.
New Metallica is promising. At least it's not unlistenable.
Another band I love The Headstones, from Kington, Ontario
lead singer Hugh Dillon went on to act in films like Hard Core Logo, Trailer Park Boys:The Movie and as Ed on the Tv show Flashpoint

Master of Puppets revisited....Well, I kinda lost track of Metallica after The Black Album and Load (so: long time ago).
Great frontman. I miss these guys.

I'm almost 50 so I am into the 1980s hair band shit - Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister, Judas Priest, etc. Can't get enough of it.

Not super big on modern death metal but damn this rips..

Megadeth's "Peace Sells ... But Who's Buying?" came out 30 years ago the other day. Classic!forkin A! Honestly, Peace Sells is the only Megadeth record I love!

Metal is very underrated on the radio, bunch of faggots
Nice to see you are still around.....I really appreciate this.
Start again met een schone lei ?

Check out Striker, a band from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Its new album, self-titled, is excellent, as are the few previous to it.
Get on board with this shit.
I have Eyes in the Night on vinyl. Wouldn't mind picking up the new one too.
Buy Stand In The Fire, man. It's amazing.
Found these guys recently from Spain, heavy as fuck and really good. GODDAMN
Pretty good.
Holy shit I like this! Thanks!
You're good with Cookie Monster vocals?
GREATEST METAL SONG IN HYSTORY !!!
The guitar solo from 3:09 to 4:08 is a masterpiece
The crescendo from 4:09 to 4:39 is insane
The moment Rob Halford screams "YOU'RE POSSESSIN' ME" at 4:40 is the single greatest moment in heavy metal history.
Judas Priest IS heavy metal. The most influential metal band of all time. To anyone who KNOWS heavy metal, he knows this is fact.
The second through fifth record, in particular, feature the very foundation upon which the solidified genre is built.
Hell yes, saw them last year and their performance was stellar. Might see them again this year.
One of my favorite Priest songs that is very underrated:
Painkiller is still heavy as fuck today.
Fuckin' Leather Rebel
Sick band...
I'm seeing Kreator next week ma ninjas!
What I like most about Judas is that they are one of the bands that had a wide variety of songs and, in a way, styles. There was/is a lot of music in the songs of Judas Priest. Everything flows into each other an the leads are nice little master pieces.
Many of the more extreme bands(like Slayer & MANY others) that were heavily influenced by them have become pretty "flat" as they have distilled their music & style into a functional minimalistic package.
Seeing my favourite band, Annihilator, in June. Very excited.
Yep. I liked their Sabbath sounding stuff like Victim of Changes. Halford really could sing, he had amazing range
Seeing my favourite band, Annihilator, in June. Very excited.
Set the World on Fire is one of y favorites... a great mix of thrash and melodic rock... almost glam-esue with the vocals. Never heard anything else quite like it. Definitely the most "early 90s" sounding album I own.

Dat riff...
Yes, the riff. Quite addictive, had to buy the damn song.
Ghost is a gimmick band. Flash in the pan.

Their music is pretty crappy. I have tried listening to it - it stinks.
Anyone ever listen to these guys? They are opening for Maiden this summer. Seem pretty decent.
Saw Metallica at Metlife Stadium yesterday. Very good show. Go see them if you get the chance on this tour.
Used to really like them a lot. (Early 80's) since then, not so much. (I got to see the Master of Puppets tour w/ Ozzy, with Cliff still alive and on Bass).
He was a HUGE part of their old sound.
New album is better, just they bore/tire me.
Felt same way after the black album, but All Nightmare Long off Death Magnetic is one of their best, IMO.

I only listen up to the Black album. :D Not interested in anything from them since then.
I don't like 2-faced people, so you can leave again.as friendly as always..... :) well some things are nice just because they never change, are they ?
The new Venom Inc album is killer.

Good to see that we have an expert on this matter. Can you confirm that we see Shitzu @0:54 and dramajane181 @1:12 & 1:31?The video is about dramajane181 it's called the portrait of a headless man (which he clearly is).
The video is about dramajane181 it's called the portrait of a headless man (which he clearly is).
lyrics at 2:40:
I am a man with strong regrets (injected grams of UG substance until full self-sterilization )
I followed great deceivers(doctor huge,GH15)
Believe in headless leaders
They played their game, true sons of Cain
But I was a hopeless dreamer
With my head deep in the clouds (Delusions about gains and fat+water bloat as muscle)
Slayer in their prime rules.
I saw them live back in the day at L'Amour in Brooklyn, NY. And I've seen them in recent years.
Yep, still definitely a solid metal show. I don't miss their shows when they come around.
New Annihilator album coming.. new song
Celtic Frost is awful.
Celtic Frost is awful.
no, Celtic Frost did suck. never understood the appeal. sounds like the never learned to play their instruments and the production on the album's was shit.
no, Celtic Frost did suck. never understood the appeal. sounds like the never learned to play their instruments and the production on the album's was shit.
They played their instruments just fine, but even if they didn't, Venom proved a long time ago that you didn't have to be an expert at playing an instrument to make good music.
exactly why I think venom sucks as well. sounds like a mess
Bet your a big bathory fan as well..
more of a late 80's early 90's thrash fan although I've seen napalm death, and similar bands live.
nuclear assault, slayer, exodus, annihaltor, megadeth, entombed, suicidal tendencies, D.R.i., etc... are more my speed
You like Brutal Truth? A few guys from N.A. and S.O.D. Need To Control is on my Top 20.
New Annihilator album... didn't someone on here really like them? It's not bad, definitely heavier than the last one.
Can't say I've listened to much of that.
The early thrash bands had a great heavy groove and better musicianship that I could really appreciate. I know its all subjective but after awhile the screaming and unintelligible lyrics and thousand mile an hour share blasts of grindcore type stuff drives me nuts.
Saw Testament on the Low tour out west in a small club with maybe 100 people. one of loudest, best shows I saw. Guys were so cool, interacting with the crowd and played their assed off. the guys pipes are unreal
I still have the original cassette of this album. Great singing by Neil Turbin.
Testament rules. Saw them as recently as this April.
Hung out with them once back in the day in a strip bar.
Guitarist Alex Skolnick is a limp-wristed left winger, but I can overlook that considering, well, they are METAL!
Favourite band since the debut.Love Set the World on Fire. Wish they would have done more with that vocalist..
Love Set the World on Fire. Wish they would have done more with that vocalist..
Classic album.
Good call. Great fucking band.
Love Overkill, shook dicks (urinal) near Blitz in the mens room back in late 80's when I saw them in Boston.
He even washed his hands (me too of course) before we could shake hands. Good guy, hell of a singer.
Hateplow
John Cyriis and Agent Steel - Kick Ass stuff... (1985)
David Vincent is a much better frontman than Tucker. As much flack as it got for the Nu-Metal stuff, their last one was better.
New Morbid Angel. Reminds me of Gateways and Heretic, which is to be expected with Steve Tucker back in the band.
I was looking forward to it, then became less enthused with all the slagging, but then I finally received my copy and ... I dig it.
Great band. Listened to them back in the day along with these guys.
New Judas Priest song from upcoming "Firepower" album.
>:(
Solid, basic Priest. Hopefully the album is as well.
I thought Angel of Retribution (2005) was good, but nothing from Nostradamus (2008) and Redeemer of Souls (2014) really grabbed me.
Can you name another band who got harder as they went on?
Sure Priest went soft with Turbo but they turned around after that
Metallica..... after justice
Megadeth on n off
Motley went soft after satd
Scorpions got softer as they went on
Queensryche too
Arguably Ozzy
Maiden stayed about the same
Celtic Frost
Ac/dc went more commercial
Who besides Priest got harder?

Bought this classic album a week ago.
Pantera
Dokken got harder.
Back for the Attack was miles ahead of Breaking the Chains.
Ha ha, maybe.
From the hair metal era, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Poison, etc, got all the attention.
However, the musically superior bands were Ratt and Dokken.
George Lynch is a great guitarist. If I remember correctly, he got into bodybuilding for a while.
Ha ha, maybe.Warren Dimartini underrated guitarist.

Warren Dimartini underrated guitarist.
DeMartini is in my all-time top 10. Unfortunately, his chops have gotten rusty as all hell in these recent years. Warren’s family is wealthy and the guy’s obviously kind of lackadaisal about his practice and recording. Outside of sporadic Ratt gigs (and very limited new releases), he doesn’t do anything.
But when he’s on top of his game, like Lynch, dear fuck.
Jake E Lee imo is the best guitarist to come from 80’s rock. Stage presence, showmanship, technique
George Lynch, Warren DeMartini,..... No mention of Jake E Lee? IMO, he was Ozzy's best guitarist (arguably Rhandy Rhodes).
Saw George Lynch a few times and he still has chops.

Another guy who gets no love out of the 80's is John Sykes. Between Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy, Blue Murder. Excellent guitarist good voice and had the look.
Sykes is/was an amazing guitarist.
It’s been said a million times over on guitar forums n discussions everywhere that Sykes doesn’t owe us anything
The footprint he left is solid
Not a fan of Zakk Wylde. Everything sounds the same.
Favorite Jake E Lee work is anything on the Bark at the Moon album. An outstanding display of his skills.
Rate Ozzy guitarists:
1. Randy Rhoads
2. Jake E Lee
3. Brad Gillis ;D
4. Zakk Wylde
Sykes is/was an amazing guitarist.

Gillis is one HELL of a guitarist.
This new singer is shit. Angela Gossow was great.
I can't get into chick lead singers for metal. Not a one.
Maybe some rare exceptions ... Lita Ford, Doro Pesch. About all I can think of.
Tried to get into Arch Enemy. Awful. Band wouldn't get any attention if she wasn't hot or dating Doyle.
I had tickets (when Randy died) to see Ozzy, Gillis jumped right in and did a fine job w/ in a very small time frame.
Pulled it off amazingly... Then was fine on the live album (Of Sabbath Songs - Speak of the Devil).

I like Doro. That’s it. THAT chick is metal.
As far as Arch Enemy, I’m a fan. Own it all. BUT ... not for either of the two broads. Only for the music/playing. The band is tight and hugely skilled. Sometimes boring, sure (ha, ha).
Jeff Loomis looks bored in that band
It’s like Steve Vai being in Crue
I’d always held hope Nevermore would resume activities. Now with Warrel dead ... Damn. Loomis is incredible. Michael always talks about how he writes the music, and this is all well and good, but if Jeff never comes to be permitted to contribute in this capacity, I’d imagine his membership in AE will be reasonably short-lived.
He’s too strong a writer/creative musician to just be a hired gun. It’s fun having him in the band, though. Loomis’ soloing is always wicked good. And it contrasts nicely with Michael’s, as well.
Sykes is/was an amazing guitarist.

This^
It will come down to money and his ability to contribute. I don’t see this lasting very long
I knew Broderick wouldn’t last to due to Dave’s arrogance n control freak nature
I’m still on the fence about Broderick’s ability to write. His second Act of Defiance record is a major improvement over the debut, though.
In Jag Panzer, he was terrific, but he didn’t write anything.
http://loudwire.com/slayer-announce-farewell-tour-dates/
will be at the Toronto show in may. mainly to see Testament and slayer. don't give a shit about the other bands.
Broderick can’t write. Sometimes I wonder if he has a musical note in him
His guitar theory doesn’t allow for much ‘feel’
I used to go back n forth on who was the better player
I now feel Jeff is simply better
This might be the best thing I’ve ever seen with a female vocalist doing metal.
New Judas Priest song from upcoming "Firepower" album.
Interesting fact: the singer of this band played Cindy Lou Who in 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'.

Agreed!
Well, I mean ...this is a bit too close to early Sabbath isn't it? I thought I heard an unreleased Zep song on the radio and it was a band called Greta Von Fleet. Just kids...
Influences fine but to directly copy is a bit much. Ironic to say since Zep did the same thing with blues I know...
Entire genres of Sabbath-sounding bands out there.
I started up a Sabbath tribute band myself a couple months ago. First gig in 2 weeks.
Way to go, can't have too many SABBATH TRIBUTE BANDS, never enough!! Their music never ages.
your brother in Christ,
Lucky
Glen Tipton has Parkinsons :-(((((Yeah, he could barely finish the album...
Was spinning Overkill's "Horrorscope" today. Wondering who else is big on the metal shit. I love me some older '80s thrash metal and stuff like early Morbid Angel, etc.
Slayer, Obituary, Sepultura, etc.... all great! Listen to them often.
All right up my alley, too.
No metal here strictly gansta rap.
Then start a non-music thread, because that's what that shit is.
One of my faves that occasionally comes on the radio
New Godsmack.
I loved Motley Crew until several years ago when I listened to a radio show with Nikki Sixx and Kerri Kasem. Sixx was such a liberal pc pussy I totally lost all respect for him and now when a Motley Crew song comes on I change the channel.
Out today.
do you like Megadeath?
Yes. Used to listen to Megadeath alot back in the late 90's when I was introduced to metal.
Then started to listen to a heavier genres of it.
I loved Dystopia.
Out today.
That Enslaved song was great.
Liked it too 8)
I was smiling ear to ear when Vic pulls out the sword and it says "Rust in Peace" and Dave nods in approval and Vic goes on a rampage.
Badfngass!!!
The band definitely still delivers. Unlike many other classic bands.
Testament still putting out great music.
The year 2000 (before i joined Getbig) this was my favorite song from Helloween
One of my favorites with Dream Theater
Sweden has so many great metal bands.
Unfortunately today - it's one of the few positive things I could say about it...
Haha yes, i am with you there Meister!
Not much good to say about Sweden today...
In the 70s and 80s though, it was one of the best countries to live in in the world (imo)
Metallica's Death Magnetic & St. Anger were really a forgetable period for the band.
They came back pretty good with Hardwired. Some great songs on it. Here's a good deep cut:
I thought Load and Reload were the worst of worstI don't get the hate for those albums. Metallica was willing to change their sound through the years and that's why they remained popular and grew a bigger and bigger fan base while groups like Slayer stayed the same.

This CC cover is actually really good:
Don't get me wrong I love Metallica. They will always be the GOAT of Metal. Lately I have been listening to a lot more of Anthrax, and Megadeth and think overall those bands' entire discography is a lot more interesting.I can lift to all Metallica albums and that's all that really matters. ;D
I like Hardwired a lot, On DM - The Day That Never Comes is a twin of One and the video is super intense. I actually prefer St Anger to Load and Re-load. And then there is that Lulu mess. Yikes.
Everything up to 1991 (Kill em all, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice for all, Metallica) was great with MetallicaSt. Anger was their worst album.
St Anger and stuff was sheit

New AC/DC album is fantastic. I dont consider them "metal" but they are heavy-rock.
As I listen more, I like it more. 'Witches Spell' is pretty much classic AC/DC:
Lots of feeling in the tune (Once it gets going). (And great to hear Brian back in (and Phil).
Excited about John Cyriis/Agent Steel to come out soon. (Been a fan since early 80's):
Metalhead checking in, Pantera, Slayer, Metallica, etc
Same here, most of the metal these days is just speed metal with silly lyrics.
Pantera had balls and soul, classic Groove Metal.
Metallica is great, new stuff not so much.
Megadeth has some amazing tracks and the guitar skills are incredible.
Slayer is still Slayer, i like their older stuff.
Iron Maiden
Anthrax to a degree
Back when the lyrics had meaning. I still listen to Pantera while working out a lot.
Even throw in bands like early Nine inch nails, Filter, Helmet, Marylin Manson, Korn, Alice n chains, Deftones, RATM. The early early music from these bands is very good metal.
Good shit.
Megadeth craps all over Metallica. Dystopia was amazing. Metallica has one or two good songs since justice and black and that’s it.
Megadeth has been putting out solid stuff all along.
Sabbath fans should like Sleep...

Bullshit.
Every Megadeth song sounds the same. Hetfield's voice is way better as well.
LOL - WTF are you talking about? Have you only listened to a few songs?
Check this jammie out. Dude - they slay. I love metallica too.

I never liked Mustaine's vocals but he sounds better here than the early albums.

To me - Megadeth destroys Metallica. I used to love metallica and still do - but since listening to all the others - you realize how overrated they are.
There is no single Metallica song that holds a candle to this entire album. And I love Metallica too! Maybe Orion which is a masterpiece. But of the Big 4 Metallica is the bottom for me - Its Megadeth / Slayer 1/2 - Anthrax 3 and Metallica 4.
This to me is a FNG masterpiece.
New Testament. Chuck Billy sounds as good as ever.
Wow loving this one BBuildah!
Great song!

Orion is one of my favorite Metallica songs. Fight Fire with Fire is up there too.
The Rust in Peace album is top 5 best in history, no questions asked.
I grew up playing the guitar, my cousin used to play covers for Guns n Roses all over the country. He's an amazing guitarist, still has a band today. When i asked him why he didn't cover any Megadeth songs, he just said they were too technical and needed 100% attention to not mess up on stage or get out of sync, very fast songs. Metallica is like that too, Het and his "downstrokes" only play style is VERY difficult. You have to be super fast.
I remember trying to learn Hanger 18 in high school. LOL Not a chance. It's top level skill. Try 194 BPM! ;)
The best i could manage was Tornado of Souls, just the intro. ;D
If you have never played guitar, you probably don't understand how amazing Megadeth really is, just from the difficulty factor.
They were very good in concert too, as long as Dave wasn't too messed up.
I listened to all the Megadeth songs posted and I'm sorry guys, they suck compared to Metallica. The song Washington Is Next has great guitar but Mustaine's voice just ruins the song and the lyrics are spotty at best. Rhe song 1000 Times Goodbye is a beta simp song that has no business being on a metal album. The other songs are just incomplete. Great guitar but shitty lyrics and vocals. Metallica's worst song is better than Megadeth's best. There is a reason why Metallica has sold millions and millions of albums and Megadeth has sold far far less.
Load and Reload were pure crap. There were a few decent songs on Death Magnetic and Hardwired, thats it.,s

Megadeth has produced some OK new stuff, but their older stuff is definitely best.
I was PISSED at Metallica for St. Anger. It's completely unlistenable. I barely gave Death Magnetic a chance after that. However, Hardwired is actually pretty darn good. Give it a good listen. Some really great stuff on there. They are already working on a follow-up with this covid downtime.
Love me some good Overkill. Saw them quite a few times back in the day. Even shared some drinks with the singer. Like most bands, their older stuff is best.
Testament is the one thrash band that I'd say just gets better. They rule! (even though guitarist Alex Skolnick is a left-wing nitwit, who constantly posts anti-Trump stuff).

A lot of people feel this way. To me, Metallica went mainstream after And Justice For All. The song "One" really caught a lot of peoples attention. Metallica's first album Kill 'em All was essentially their best album when it comes to metal, it was more like Megadeth in many eyes and rightfully so considering Dave had much influence over it. Metallica was able to soften up over the years and get more attention. Megadeth was always raw and raspy, many people do not like Dave's voice. But the people that like Megadeth LOVE it.
Nothing made by either band after 1994 was worth a shit, maybe a few one off songs. Metallica's best albums are their first two. I even make an argument with people that their Black album is shit too. I hated Enter Sandman and Sad but True, however people loved those songs. I can't even listen to that album. My Friend of Misery is my favorite or maybe Unforgiven. Metallica changed over the years and stayed main stream-ish.
I still listen to Kill em All and Ride the Lightning all the time, but that's about it.

The main reason is how soft (commercial) they went from their early days (more commercial, so more sales). 1st 3 albums were intense, after that sort of blah...I guess for those who only like metal Metallica went soft. I like every type of music so look at Metallica as an ever evolving band and liked all their stuff.
They did the right thing financially though. I saw them on Master of Puppets w/ Clif on Bass (open for Ozzy), it was amazing, brutal. Now they are a mainstream band.

What are you listening to these days?
Lulu was a FNG train wreck

Still a great metal band. I also like most music (except for rap and fake junk). Very smart, very talented band. Especially Kirk.

I like different types of music too but I think people react to what they see as loss of autheticity. That is, a change in sound to appeal to a wider demographic to make more money.Ulver is an interesting group. They have changed their lineup so many times that they are really the same band in name only.
There's this, what used to be, black metal band called Ulver. Completely changed their sound but the new stuff is quality too.
I think "One" with SF orchestra is one of the best live performances of a song ever. Pure chaos and power.I know Load and Reload got a lot of hate when they came out but I always found them to be great albums to listen to working out.
However, the Black Album was the first album that showed cracks, and I think adding Bob Rock f'd them up. It has some decent songs, but stuff like The Unforgiven is putrid.
I felt everything after that was meh, until Death Magnetic and Hardwired.
Someone did an article how Load/Reload could have been Coldplay songs at that time, and vice-versa. Seems correct.
Ulver is an interesting group. They have changed their lineup so many times that they are really the same band in name only.
Kirk was never an impressive player from a technical standpoint. He recorded a few memorable solos.
Since the eighties, he’s become less and less worthwhile. Indeed, his playing has seriously diminished. And as I say, he was never a monster-chops player.
I just received the new Lords of Black, Altars of Madness super deluxe reissue (Morbid Angel) and Destruction’s new live CD/DVD offering, Born to Thrash.
I know Load and Reload got a lot of hate when they came out but I always found them to be great albums to listen to working out.
Same here, most of the metal these days is just speed metal with silly lyrics.I hear you dude, I'm into pantera metallica slayer megadeth ratt motley crue metal church napalm death cannibal corpse king diamond etc (tons of bands)
Good shit.
Dave wrote many of their best songs . . . . .
Kill Em All tends to be called Dave Wrote Em AllI can sing like Dave Mustaine

Mercyful Fate is one of my favorites of all-time. Don't Break the Oath = Mind Blowing Greatness. (Tim Hansen - Bass, recently died).Good music, I hate the lyrics, way too Satanic though

Mercyful Fate is legend, as is King Diamond, the band.always had some incredible guitarists!
MF’s comeback album, In the Shadows, is a masterwork.
The whole discography is mandatory metal.
Good music, I hate the lyrics, way too Satanic though
Agreed on the lyrics
YouTube has instrumental song versions and guitar covers
There’s also software u can download that removes the vocals

The falsetto voice is a bit much for me. But the guitar work is typically amazing.

Guess you've never heard of black metal?Yes I have, but they sound too over the top, some deicide music is good but I hate the lyrics
Or, just check out some Deicide.
I was mainly following up on your opinion that Mercyful Fate is the most Satanic metal band.
Some European black metal band members actually burned churches. Quite a few bands out there that are way darker than Mercyful Fate.
always had some incredible guitarists!
I listen to some of the most extreme black metal, and while much of it is over-the-top evil, I’d argue King and Fate are about as legit Satanic as you’re gonna find.
I’m heavily Satanic. It and evil are not the same thing.
I'd argue KIng Diamond lyrics are more supernatural, ghost story themed than Satanic.
Thoughts on Behemoth? I can't get into it.
Love me some early Deicide.

While I’m more of a hard rock guy, I always liked Schenker:
It’s difficult for me to engage in discussions like found in this thread.
I’m not one of those tRoo folks, but I’ve been a metal fanatic since ‘82. I buy five-to-10 CDs each and every week.
I own roughly 8,000 CDs.
For me, it’s life.
Iron and metal.
Hail and kill.
With you, brother. Many things will come and go in life, but I'll always listen to metal. I'm 50 and been into it since a teen.
Ratt and Dokken are my favorites from the "hair metal" groups. They blow away Motley, Poison, etc.Ratt has some good songs .tight sound
Ratt and Dokken are my favorites from the "hair metal" groups. They blow away Motley, Poison, etc.
DeMartini, while a largely unmotivated cat, is a special guitarist. From ‘83 to ‘91 he was on FIRE.Lynch too had great sound .Paris is burning live solo in beginning then tune is great.don dokken seems like a douche.
Lynch is the Jeff Beck of hard rock/heavy metal. He can be off, but when he’s on, he’s one of the most unique and “scary” (Mr. Scary) players of all time.
His greatest recorded moments are endlessly shocking in their badassery.
Lynch too had great sound .Paris is burning live solo in beginning then tune is great.don dokken seems like a douche.Don Dokken had a great voice when he was young but as he got older he looked a lot like Trump, big thick body and blonde hair

Not metal. Grunge era
Extra points for having a chic singer
Female Kurt Cobain
Chris Broderick of Jag Panzer, Megadeth ect..
8 finger tapping at its finest
Great player. First heard him on Panzer’s Mechanized Warfare release.
Strange, but I think that thumb-pick (w/ a patent, I believe) doohickey has hurt his overall precision and attack.
His new band Act of Defiance is cool (own both albums), but I still feel he’s not come into his own. Too much theory and academia? I’m not sure.
King Diamond has some ''darkness'' for shock value mostly, but Mercyful fate is downright possibly the most Satanic band in heavy metal, too demonicListened to some Mercyful Fate songs this morning. The lyrics are kind of cheesy but their playing rocks and KD has a great voice for metal. I like their songs more than King Diamond.

Ur r correct as to say too much theory and academia
He’s not a good song writer
Him and Jeff Loomis get too caught up in well... being technical
^Lol! I hope most see that stuff is for entertainment only, Jesus is Lord
^Lol! I hope most see that stuff is for entertainment only, Jesus is LordYou should wear a Jesus is Lord t-shirt to a Mercyful Fate concert. ;D
See, to my thinking, Loomis can create facetearing riffs for days. His Nevermore material is legend.
IT was mentioned before in this thread by now i was watching mtv classic hard rock videos lol saw 'saxon'they had great sound and typical 70 80's cliched dual guitar playing they were not typical metal guys other than singer biff byford.paul quinn and the bassist had no hair lol.they were right there with priest /maiden/sabbath beginnings....

Maiden just released a new live album, in case any Maiden fans missed that.

Nothing wrong with those bands, but come on, would be nice to see a real discussion of metal continue with fellow metalheads without stupid comments.Everyone is stuck in the past. What about new metal?
I bought the deluxe version.
Listened once then it was placed for presentation.
No one needs another live Maiden album. LOL But for those of us who collect/are completists ...
I will say this. It’s cool to have a live rendition of “Sign of the Cross”, my fave Blaze-era tune.
Nothing will top Live After Death.
Everyone is stuck in the past. What about new metal?
I often get sad when a Warrant song comes on. Singer died alone in a hotel room. Not a way to go.
Everyone is stuck in the past. What about new metal?
Very similar to some of the bands I posted. Definitely taking some things from Linkin Park.
These bands ... again not bad ... some catchy tunes ... but not that deep of catalog.

Gojira really good.

Deicide is awesome. Benton’s lyrics, however, are juvenile verbal attacks on Christianity. Which is fine. I understand his grievances. I enjoy them for what they are.
I’d love for him to spew some of his primal venom towards Islam, though.
Saxon is a legendary English heavy metal band. Its last several efforts have been amongst its best. Shocking, really. Maiden can’t say the same.8)
SJW's would stroke out.
I liked Ride like the wind since seeing Platz posing to it :D
Saxon made a great cover IMO. Would work great as a posing song I think. Makes me pumped up and euphoric :D
Jeez those chicks are smokin’. :P

Check this out when you have some time. A full Savatage concert in a club from back in the day. Epic stuff!
Criss’s solo in “Ghost in the Ruins”, from Streets: A Rock Opera, is one of the greatest guitar solos I’ve ever heard.
It’s firmly in my top 10.
The note choices, pauses, phrasing, emotive articulation, backing music, technique ...
Any interest in sharing the top 10 list?
Would be cool to see if there's any we haven't heard a give a listen.
R.I.P Chris Olivia
Thanks for your interest.
I’ve never actually put a conscious thought to THE actual list. Haha. I just know when one falls into my hypothetical list.
Having said this, I’ll throw out a few, and I will add as the others (hopefully) come to mind.
“Back For More” - Warren DeMartini (Ratt) note: Out of the Cellar version
“La Villa Strangiato” - Alex Lifeson (Rush)
“Rosanna” (outro solo) - Steve Lukather (Toto)
“Last Chance” - Brad Gillis (Night Ranger)
“Don’t Say Goodbye” - Ian Crichton (Saga)
“Sleepless Nights” - Andy LaRocque (King Diamond) note: his portion at the tail-end, with the cosmic vibrato stabs
So, a few.
Solos by Kim Mitchell, Jorn Viggo Lofstad, Eric Johnson, and more, make the list, as well. As well as George Lynch ... LOL
Again, I’ll add as I think of specifics.
P.S. I hope some of you enjoy these. If you care to comment, that would be fun. Again, thanks for showing interest. This stuff is the blood in my veins.

Love old Queensryche. Promised Land was actually very good. After that, unlistenable.
It makes me sad that the band imploded. It was pretty ugly, from what I read. Geoff Tate spit at the drummer at their final gig.

Saw them open for Priest, Jesus its been 15 years already I guess (2005). First album/tour back w/ Halford, Angel of Retribution.

Thanks man - I have to check some of those out over the next week. That is a hell of a lineup of 80's Metal

This was the lineup:

Faster Pussycat
Frank Hannon
KIX
Nelson
Pretty Boy Floyd
Tom Keifer
Day 2
Ace Frehley
Great White
Last in Line
Lynch Mob
Night Ranger
Queensrÿche
Sebastian Bach
Slaughter
Stryper

When things normalize, you should look it up and make the trip. It's the best vibe - since everyone is our age, they're all pretty chill, but still get into it heavy. I think you'd like it.

Jeff Beck-Because we ended as Lovers

Oh, wow, didn't know those vids were coming from you. Just thought you were skilled in finding obscure Asian uploads. :)
That's some old school Priest. Saw them back in the day, well, not that far back.
Now, without Glenn Tipton & KK Downing, I don't think it's really fair to call it Judas Priest. Their last album was just OK, although I know it got good reviews.
I'd stick a fork in this band. But, Halford still has it. Would be cool to see him do something like Fight again.

Who is better, iron maiden or linkin park?
Halford has never been able to pull off “Painkiller” live.
On a side note, the guy needs to stop yapping about his phaggoting.
P.S. On a related point, I’m reading Mustaine’s Rust In Peace book, and in it, talking about the tour Megadeth did supporting Priest, he says Rob, hearing Dave was into Bart Simpson, each day left Bart collectibles for him in his dressing room. Fearing it looked bad/gay, he asked him to stop.
Saw them live for the painkiller tour. Sounded awesome then. Pretty sure megadeth and testament opened. Both kicked ass.
In the bombast of a live show, some questionable vocals can seem OK/good. Then you hear them on a recording and you’re like, Nope.
The loudness, cacophony and visual overload can seriously cover clams, garbage playing and less-than-optimum singing.
Over 40 years of music and live performances has clued me in to this phenomenon.

F yea. Mustaine and Megadeth crap all over Metallica.
metallica is better than megadeth
metallica is better than megadeth
Metallica’s first four are neck-and-neck with Megadeth’s first four, but, after that, Megadeth, pound for pound, crushes Metallica into cosmic dust.
And instrumentally, the Mega lead players and drummers eternally embarrass Hamsandwich and Ulrich.
First album goes to metallica. Peace sells sounds way better than ride the lightening production wise to me.Black Friday, the conjuring, all wicked tunes. Master of puppets is a fucking killer album. Everything on there is gold besides the Thing that should not be.
So far, so good takes a step back production wise but has some great tracks no doubt.
Rust is a masterpiece and destroys the Black album.
After that I dint give shit about any of it. Maybe ashes in your mouth gets a pass. Thats it. Both bands go off my radar after that
Funny, so many trash on “The Thing That Should Not Be”, but for me, since I bought MoP as a brand-new release, it’s been a top-dog track.
SO heavy and SO sinister.
But to each his own.

*** this is the second half of Judas Priest's Painkiller live in 1991...the part where that shouting Pain~ Killer~ is very destructive and intense, so it's a must see!!! but the quality of the original video was very poor, so i remastered the audio and video, but unfortunately i couldn't improve the quality much ***
;)GREAT COVER..
So damn good
You put a lot of time into editing these old vids. You ever get any pulled down by YouTube for copyright violation?

Fantastic band and album, but Skolnick can take a leap. He’s not only much diminished as a guitarist from years gone by, but he is also a lefttard of immense proportions.
Yeah, he's been all over social media for months with left-wing nonsense. Boob.
Indeed.
I actually think he’s mentally unwell. For real.
And his time away from metal into jazz deteriorated his rock/metal playing. He’s not what he once was.

^ This
That whole wear a mask rap song that he did
See that collab he did with the blue-haired bitch from Arch Enemy? A cover of “We Are the Champions”? (*YAWN)
His sound is dismal eighties-Peavy-practice-amp tone, his soloing injections completely out of place and awkward, and his vibrato unpleasant. Also, he’s got that gooberish retard look on his face that’s become his go-to expression.
The bitch? She’s annoying, as always, in her appearance of self-importance. (I like AE, but strictly for the band, excluding her.)

She's full blown SJW and vocals-wise she can't hold a candle to Angela Gossow.Hey I remember Angela
King Diamond (and Mercyful Fate) have always been such solid live performers, never phoning it in.
King, KD and MF, is metal legend. Hail.
I’ve been doing deep dive on him for all the albums. So good. Can’t believe I missed out on all this greatness

You only discovered King recently?
King is like Ozzy, only he’s talented. And he is the real Prince of Darkness.
Also like Ozzy, King has always had awesome guitarists, both the classic Hank and Michael in MF, and his various KD axe-slingers. The right-hand man, Andy, is one of my all-time faves.
Yes. Been listening to all. So good.
All his King Diamond and Mercyful Fate albums are excellent. In his recent live release (Songs for the Dead), he was almost 60 years old and still sounded as good as ever.
A lot of great rock/metal continues to come out of Scandinavia.always has! Thats a great song (by the way)! Love the guitar track .

Credit where credit is due to the band Black Sabbath. But, prefer the Dio era over Ozzy.
Ozzy is a hack.
Yes - forgive me - i didnt listen because i didnt like the voice at first. But holy F - his albums are so fng great.
If you like classic 80s metal I think you'll enjoy Candlemass, especially the Messiah era, very powerful voice. Nightfall is a monumental album.

That Milano stage dive is epic!
Slayer + war clips is a great match.
This is so good.
Such tragedy every one of Metallica’s peers is routinely recording material that incinerates anything James, Lars and Kirk have over these past THREE decades ... and yet Metaliica remains at the very top.
No justice.
It’s quite remarkable how the fumes of a once-great band has sustained such success.
Think about it. After 1990, Metallica, as a relevant recording entity, ceased to exist. Still arenas and stadiums.

Metallica lives off of mainly a dozen songs
1. Creeping Death - 1984
2. Master - 1986
3. For Whom the Bell Tolls - 1984
4. Sandman - 1992
5. One - 1988
6. Moth into a Flame - 201?
7. Seek and Destroy - 1983
8. Whiplash - 1983
9. Sad but True - 1992
10. Fuel - 1995
11. Fade to Black 1984
12. Welcome Home Santarium 1986
Since Justice - they have have been a rock band mainly. I like a few off the black album. But after - mostly nonsense and crap
Fixed it for ya

Let’s not get silly. Metallica’s always been a metal band.
Just one that’s essentially sucked ass for 30 years.
St Anger had some ok moments.
I was fine with the black album. And, there are some good songs on Load and Re-Load.
However, when St. Anger hit, I was both pissed and disappointed in the band. I thought they were done. I was still pissed when I Death Magnetic came out, and barely gave it a listen.
But, Hardwired is a great album. Give it another shot.
When I last saw them a few years ago, they played NOTHING from Death Magnetic or St. Anger. Tells you all you need to know about those two albums.
I've seen Metallica many times. I'm 50. They ALWAYS deliver live and never phone it in.
That is what put them on the map in the beginning (with no radio play), and the quality of their live shows is what kept has them as the biggest act in metal.
In addition to praying to the wrong god, that Gaahl tool hits for the other team. :D
To be fair, even the best bands only had have a run for 3-4 years with a few having a great one off comeback album.Pretty spot on,not metal I love vh and roth era those first 6 albums were all great to me but even considering diver down a so so effort which I still like they come back with 1984 which was huge then dlr says so long..
Pure brutality.
How about some solid hair metal. Hit after hit right here ...
How about some solid hair metal. Hit after hit right here ...great sound ..still like the raw sound of the ep 'you think your tough',,another great band mentioned pages ago was accept had there greatest hits it put restless and wild and another cd together all the songs rocked.'fast as a shark'is a classic .

Can be said for all other iconic bands too - after 1991 the greats vanished.
Slayer was the only band that made one semi authentic album as late as 1994.

Legend.
Legend.Brutal if true
Just ordered the new Pathology CD.
one of the best metal drummers (imo) his double-bass is off the charts (lombardo)
("philty animal taylor like")
philthy was a monster on double-bass (overkill intro and song)
drum cam from suicidal (of course his slayer days are the best) but cool to see
Thought this guy did a good job auditioning for Slayer back in 2002. His regular gig of being a black metal drummer/singer at the same time is pretty unique.

girls amazing...
One of my all-time faves is back (Mercyful Fate). Joey Vera on Bass (Armored Saint, Fates Warning).
Mercyful Fate is legend.
Just too bad Denner isn’t involved. But, yeah, Vera is a terrific bassist and a cool fella.
My King/MF/related collection is extensive.
Anyone been to the Maiden's ''Legacy of the Beast'' show? I'm going to see them tomorrow

They still sound great.
The new Metallica stinks.
Not that I’d ever buy anything new from them ever again, mind you.
The first four and that is it. Forever.
Great tribute to one of the greatest metal singers (or singers "period"), and one of my favorite albums of all time.
Heaven & Hell is amazing...
I listen to pretty much the same bands as always, king diamond, slayer, ratt, napalm death, demilich, six feet under, priscilla, rammstein, soilwork, etcBrutal but true.

Huge Mercyful / King fan here. I bought "Dont Break the Oath" when it came out back in 1983/84 or so, and was hooked.
That shit still stands as some of the best progressive type playing ever... I saw King in 1988 with Flotsam (when they still had Newstead pre-Metallica for him).
Tim Hansen (Mercyful Bassist) is one of my faves (RIP).
Same. Bought the album based on the cover art alone. Wasn't disappointed. Loved the riffs and arrangements. Sounded evil as fuck to me at the time.

For the past 25-plus years Metallica has become the metal band for people who don’t really know anything about metal.
Heck, even amongst its thrash peers, Metallica is a woeful band.
Death Angel, Testament, Exodus, Megadeth, Forbidden, Kreator, Destruction, etc. … ALL releasing album after album of terrific stuff.
Metallica releases yet another flaccid, uninspired pancake and all the clueless become excited.
This new one is James desperately trying to resurrect his muse by channeling the NWOBHM.
Sad.
The first four Met records are ESSENTIAL. Then, after the self-titled, it’s been all downhill.

Larshole cut out all the bass from the original mix of And Justice For All and it sounds like shit. The enhanced bass versions sound much better.Yes, it is. I've been listening to it a lot lately. It made one of the greatest metal albums ever even better.
New Metallica is ok but I prefer old Metallica, same thing with Rammstein, new Rammstein is alright but I prefer the old stuff

BloodShart
FNG awesome!
Apparently so awesome that YouTube terminated the account.
Damn do I love this song!!!
Maiden in all its glory!!!! Up the FNG irons!!!!
There is a hidden message in the song “Still Life.” When the song is played backwards, Nicko can be heard making fun of actor John Bird's impression of Idi Amin, saying, among other things, “Do not meddle with things you don't understand.” The band put it in as a jab at critics who accused their songs of being Satanic.
IRON MAIDEN was getting really fed up with the American bigots who'd condemned them devil worshippers
and such, so they decided to stick this sucker on the new album (PIECE OF
MIND). Right at the beginning of the song Still Life is two quick backwards
messages, one after the other. Both are spoken by Nicko in a deep Rasta
accent, not too much even understandable even when played backwards. Well,
the first says "What ho sed de t'ing wid de t'ree bonce", which means "What
ho said the monster with the three heads." The second says "Don't meddle wid
t'ings you don't understand." And of course, the message ends with a belch!
Somewhere in Time is a legendary album.
The galloping bass and drums and rythms are so timeless. The songs feel so epic and grand.
The GOAT of metal bass IMO...

Thanks to Maiden I really started to love metal. Can't wait for this year's show. They are even starting the tour in my city.
Maiden has such a unique, epic, galloping, robust, and timeless sound - its like being taken into a time machine with them.
Vomitory are back.

Great find Gym Rat! From the band's name I was expecting some Maiden influence and it doesn't disappoint.
Weird. I just pulled out that CD for my Jeep.

ST!!!!!
That song is just la la la la la la lovely!
Man, I love ST.. Awesome band... Rocky George, amazing guitarist...
I listened to Deja Vu today full blast. Damn that album was great.
I remember I had listened to it last week, at least thats what sense happened.;D
42 years ago today….A band was born
It’s tragic the entire band perished in that plane crash returning from the Justice Tour.
Justice is still my fav.
Justice is still my fav.
Justice is still my fav.
A good album, though the 1st 3 smoke it in terms of face-melting metal... They softened a lot on Justice, and the production sucked arse...
I still liked it though... :D
I was listening to Rammstein, now I'm listening to cinderella
Another gem. Perfection
Bro are you drinking and should we ask you anything?Lol sure, now I'm listening to slayer
Another gem. Perfection
New Kerry King single from his upcoming solo project. That classic Kerry guitar sound is there.
Excellent. Like "Slayer Cont'd"...
Great lineup. This should be an amazing album.

Kyle Sanders (HELLYEAH) - bass
Phil Demmel (ex-MACHINE HEAD) - guitars
Mark Osegueda (DEATH ANGEL) - vocals
